U.S.S. Thermopylae (The battle of Thermopylae was where the Spartans beat the Persians, and I am not referring to 300 I mean the actual historical battle.)
U.S.S. Masada (One of several fortresses which have never been taken in battle.)
U.S.S. Shiroyama (Where the last of the Samurai made their last stand in 1877, not to reemerge until WWII)

Right off, the being a Bungie fan, I'd wanna say "U.S.S. Marathon" Japanese things work too, and would probably please Ny... but anything old earth Naval would be cool too.

U.S.S. Defiance - Just sounds kinda cool!
U.S.S. Hiryu - Japance Aircraft Carrier from Pearl Harbor and Midway
U.S.S. Ward - Fired on and sunk a Japanese minisub trying to sneak into Pearl Harbor right before the attack.
U.S.S. Scorpion - Also sounds kinda neat!
U.S.S. Tigress - Involved in the Search and Rescue operations for the Polaris Artic Expedition in 1873

Also the name of a Submarine in WW2. Which fits with the defiant them and crew camaraderie I want for us. the other names a good too.

I like using Roman names. My ships are the U.S.S. Invictus and the U.S.S. Imperator. The first one is "Unconquerable" and the second is "Emperor". There's also U.S.S. Praetor, U.S.S. Centurion, U.S.S. Tribune, U.S.S. Consul. I'm a big fan of the Romans. Just some ideas. They're kind of Romulan, though. Romulans are quite obviously the Romans.

I've always associated strong attribute names to a Defiant-Class ship. Ultimately though, I dont believe they had any specific naming convention set for them in the show. The only three canon Defiant-Class ships we've seen were the Defiant, Valiant, and Sao Paulo. 2 attributes and a city. Who knows. My top pick has always been the U.S.S. Sentinel. She's already in our fleet inventory, shes old, rugged, has personality, heavily damaged, and she's desperately screaming for some TLC from a crew just as rugged as her. Other then that, I've been toying with these names myself... U.S.S. Diligent U.S.S. Relentless U.S.S. Vigilant

I'd let the crew of the new ship decide her name. They are the ones that will be using it day in and day out.

I don't wanna burst anyone's bubble but the ship name is an IC Concept. It was fun to throw names back and forth though, we should all get in the habit of handeling IC things Icly

Then how do we go about handling it ICly?
Is it just assigned by Command? Does the Captain petition Command? Is it assigned by the GMs? Does the Admiral handle it?
This is a good time as any to set this procedure down so when we launch future ships theres no headaches.
