Victor put down his PADD after composing his reply to Admiral Compton. He sighed softly and undid the collar on his jacket before pouring himself a glass of scotch. He kicked his legs up on the desk and sparked a menthol cigarette, ruminating on the events of the day. He looked over and saw an old paperback book laying on the shelf next to him -- it was a gift from a friend, many years ago. He flipped through the pages, thinking it was so very odd that it seemed excusable to sock another officer in the face, but a cardinal sin to inquire about it. What a world we live in, he thought.
His eyes flicked past the many verses in the book, until his eyes rested upon one in particular. Deuteronomy 16:20: "Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the Lord your God is giving you."
Victor wasn't sure what he believed, although he somehow knew there was a higher power out there. A universal lawgiver, perhaps... one that would bring all evil to account. Human justice could be corrupted by favoritism or bias, but maybe there was something even greater. What a wonderful thing that would be, Victor thought.
Then again, he pondered, if we were all brought to account, we would all be condemned.

Victor grumbled as he put down the PADD after reading Admiral Compton's latest response. He poured himself another scotch before tapping his communicator.
=/\= Lieutenant Cameron, do you have a moment to chat?

Jon looks over to their bedside table as his combadge goes off. He walks over and picks it up.
=^= Yes Lieutenant...what is this about?

Cameron could hear the clinking of a glass in the background.
=/\= Thanks to fate or circumstance, we've never talked outside of a handful of awkward situations. I'd like to get to know our helmsman a little better.

Jon looks bemused.
=^= You only just came on board...naturally it will take time to get to know the crew. I am assuming you would like to do this in person?

Victor replied:
=/\= Of course. Come to my quarters, I've got a very good scotch here.

Jon shrugs.
=^= On my way. Cameron out.
Jon walks over to the closet and picks out one of his off duty outfits, smirking as he spots a few of Alice's dresses. As soon as he changes he exits the bedroom and walks out of his quarters towards Vic's. As soon as he arrives he rings the door chime.

Vic doesn't flinch at the door chime. "Come in!"
Vic's quarters were still relatively empty. A few paper books laid on the shelf. There was a small liquor cabinet filled with a variety of liquors, but Vic had a bottle of Jonnie Walker Blue and a couple glasses out on his table. The table itself was unremarkable -- a few PADDs here and there, and a computer. Vic was sitting behind his desk.
An old-fashioned record player was on in the background, playing very softly.
"Have a seat," Vic said as he motioned toward the couch near the window.

Jon nods and walks over to the window, taking a seat on the couch.
"Is that one of those old Earth audio players?"
Jon points to the record player.

Victor nodded and seemed to brighten up at the fact that Jon recognized the player. He began to pour a couple glasses.
"That's right, Jon. It just so happens that the prior occupant had left it behind. My God, though, they left some creepy music." He chuckled and motioned toward the vinyl record that was still propped up next to the record player. It was labeled 'One More Kiss Dear.'
"I know the audio system that's built into the quarters is technically much higher fidelity, but there's something about the imperfections of these old records that give it character. Wouldn't you agree?"

Jon reads the name of the record and visibly cringes, his face losing some of its color before regaining his composure. He quickly nods, hoping to cover it up.
"Uh, yes, of course...I feel the same way about replicated food versus hand prepared food. It's why I have taken up cooking for Alice and I, sort of as a hobby."

Victor poured two glasses of scotch as Jon spoke.
"Ah, speaking of Alice, how is she?" He raised one of the glasses to Jon as an offer. "You know..." Vic chuckled, "I didn't know she was your fiancee until recently. Had a discussion with Doctor Spencer about it. If I had known earlier, I might not have, ah, conducted myself as I did." Vic smiled at Jon.

Jon receives the glass, nodding.
"She is as well as can be expected...yes well, she seemed to insist on leading you on as well. I didn't think that was fair to you but as you said, we really haven't had time to talk."
He takes a sip of the scotch.

Victor chuckled and shrugged. "Flirting is fun. I'm not the kind to settle down, anyway." He recalled Admiral Compton's threat before continuing. "I've done that before and it didn't end well."
"You must be some kind of casanova if you have Walker and Decia fighting over you like that." Vic smirked and sipped his scotch.

Jon sips his scotch and chuckles with him before ending it as he brought up the incident. He winces.
"I guess everyone knows by now..."
