heya I have a question concerning the alert statuses and such things. I am not realy familar with what it means in Star Trek terms. For example a Lockdown, like we have currently on the Adagio: In Military means it would mean that on the ship is nobody moving around that has not something to do. (That means only if they are on duty). Security Personal would walk around armed and people that are off duty are called back to their quarters, with the doors locked. In Roleplay terms that is probably cool for like one day or so, after that people would like to interact with each other again, so i think it might be less drastic for our purpose, but i might be wrong. Can i read up on that somewhere? I looked around in the forums and found nothing much on that. Google gives some intel, but its different in detail for every roleplay group i found. Thanks in advance!

Lockdown is exactly how it sounds, it's one of two special alerts used. It's not a ship-wide alert, used to compartmentalize an area and secure it for any number of reasons. Reasons could be that there is an environmental hazard, or for a reason that would warrant keeping something in, or out, of the area. Depending on the severity it could simply mean denial of access as well. It's usualy inferred with the lockdown order what is expected. Locking down an entire ship is problematic, as crew can't move or get access to functions they normally should have access to for the smooth running of the vessel.
The other special alert is silent alert, typically used to prep security or Delta for defensive actions in.. uncomfortable situations that may escalate, or for situations where preemptive measures are more prudent when expecting trouble. Typically it's done when there isn't full cause to go to yellow or red alert. (An example would be negotiations with a neutral force breaking down and the situation slowly moving toward hostility)

We currently have a ship wide lockdown. What i am asking is, as in regular military this would mean you do not leave your quarters, so whats still useable in the ship when you are off duty? I would say holodeck is a no go. Whats with the messhall? As normaly every quarter has a replicator, there is no need for that.

If the ship goes to Brown Alert then you really know there is a problem.
[DGM NOTE - Enough of this already -_- . This was a serious question from a new fleet member who is seeking serious responses for better RP. Please folks keep your answers serious in this section and such humor for the OOC Section. Thanks - Kitty]

... brown alert? I am not english as first language, do not know such an alert from the german syncro, but if you ment is as a joke... haha funny. To get back to serious, if i remember right, we even had a silent or yellow alert with the shipwide lockdown at the end of the event.
I do not want to judge on that, i roll with it, thats cool, but i need to know what that means for my char, so i can play her right. This are things she realy has to know, even if she is fresh from academy.
So what i think here, especially for her as an security officer:
- doubled patrols - prolonged shifts, because of the doubled patrols (more men, need a different shift rotation) - Security specific: phaser and holster ready to grab at her quarters, if she is off duty and there would happen an emergency what would lead to a red alert - off duty, means stay at your quarters, lock the door. On the gangways is only personal allowed that has a job to do or is an on duty secruity officer (delta included) - Access to specific areas of the ship on a 'need to enter basis' (Engine room only for engineers, bridge only to bridge personal and so on) - Holodecks are off limits, because of the additional energy drain, that would be needed in case of an emergency - Messhall may also be off limits, because of already said point that quarters have a replicator, so there is no need for a messhall to get food.
Do i see this to hard? Or do i even miss things that should be included?

I would say holodeck is a no go. Whats with the messhall? As normaly every quarter has a replicator, there is no need for that. I would understand this to mean for some reason the crew is required to be contained in place. Haven't read the log so I dont know the circumstances. It might be a misinterpretation. Locked Down, Cordoned, Secured, these all mean different things. Its possible that simply the wrong definition was used, It happens. Amd the replicators in Quarters are preset to certain functions. Drinks/clothing/etc. You can't replicate volatile chemicals from those replicators, for example. I imagine that they probably are set for food, but the mess is there for a more social atmosphere, which is a big point on sips. Social atmosphere is crucial to a positive working environment.

As a note, on any higher alert status ALL crew are to report to stations unless otherwise directed. Shifts don't matter at that point.
EDIT: When in doubt, ask the one who gave the command in a PM. Most of us don't bite and are happy to answer questions.

Is that written down somewhere? Thats my original question. I have no clue about this stuff ooc, but its needed information to play my char right, i case there is a standard that everyone should/has to follow in our fleet. If its up to everyones imagination, thats okay, but may lead to misunderstandings in my mind.

I know you don't bite, thats why i opend this thread, so i dont have to pm the dgm's all the time. if its wirtten down somewhere, someone will know, you people already know these things. I expect the point with the higher alerts was not only a ' seb says, so it has to be like that' point. (no offense of course, only that you understand what i mean) Edit: Just to clarify, if its regulated after actual canon, that is probably written down somewhere also for these points. Maybe there is a trek nerd with us, that knows where to click in the wide internet, to find such information. Before Star Trek there was Star Wars for me...and yes we have whole lexicons to read up on this stuff. I want to play my char as plausible as possible and want to listen on canon as long as it does not interfere with fleet regulations, but where do i look? As said Google gives some intel, but many roleplay groups have a different set of regulations there. Most differ in detail.

Well from what I gathered; I was under the interpretation that Delta and Security were on Silent Alert apart from Engineering Lab 4 which is under lockdown.

Sevuk wrote in forum rp: Sevuk remains at his post on the bridge, scanning over various security reports as the ship is currently on lockdown. While his Vulcan hearing may have heard her conversation, he did not visibly acknowledge it.It may also be an misinterpretation, or mine, or yours. Thats why i also opend this thread, someone will clarify that and the exact meaning. At least Kitty will probably know in the end. She is the one who ordered this. So she will probably also know what she expect from these orders. In the end, it was probably good to open the thread as we are not remembering the same thing here. Thats normal, thats why we have a mouth to ask love you all <3

It is not really a fleet wide standard. Talia issued the order for Adagio, lock down ship wide for her means we are not on full alert, so shift rotations happen normally, etc. It does mean security has constant armed and manned converge on areas deemed "critical" like main engineering, deflector, computer core, bridge as well as areas valuable to hold during a boarding action, like the sickbay, shuttle bay and transporter rooms. Talia in this case designated a very special section and items put in lock down as well. In a lock down state security is only letting authorized personnel into those locations.

Not a problem.
Talia also has a term for issuing orders to crew to set up fortified positions at key locations shipwide and manning these set up bunkers.
Yellow alert actives internal system security screens as raising shield to normal power when possible (unless overridden by the captain). It is usually not general quarters (get all crew up and to their stations), but can be at the captains discretion. If the captain wants to have the quarter master issue personal arms and combat kits to the crew, it usually in this status.
Red Alert is all of the above, plus weapon systems are powered and armed and it is always general quarters and all crew manning their battle stations. If this was issued without a prior yellow alert, then crews will use their best judgement on catching up with any preparation item based on the situation, but foremost is getting to battle stations and those accompanying systems brought to battle status.

Exactly. Talia did not want the ship on Red Alert as (the way I interrupted it) any Starfleet ships the Adagio encountered on the way to Earth would see that. So we went to Yellow Alert...but with some extra security in place in the event we were boarded.
