"So then you have heard?" The Admiral asked the lone occupant in the darkened room. "That Chorus has failed and was taken into custody?"
"Of course..." The figure never turned for the dark room's only window staring out at the stars, the illumination from space casting him in ominous shadow. "However Admiral Chorus did not fail...Chorus was destroyed"
"Naturally but I..." The Starfleet officer began...
"I would definitely not classify what chances it now offers us ... as a failure..." The figure sighed some. "Nor is what is in custody the Chorus...that is nothing more than a meatsuit...that has some much needed clinical value to us only."
"But..."
"No you see this recent mess on Chimera, the fall of Black and White and even T'Grav's bumbling have all set the stage exactly how I wanted it."
"But how?" The Admiral stammered.
The figure drew a simple breath and then paused.
"How? I have quite a bit at stake here Mister..." The Admiral stopped as the man held up a patient hand to silence him.
"Yes you have stakes in the game as do we all, but this game has just begun... " He began. "I needed all of the pieces in the right place..."
"I...I ..do not understand..."
"Trust me Admiral, that much is very apparent to me..." The man slowly clasped his hands behind his back. "You need to see the entire game board....the seeds of distrust of their lavish intelligence projects has been sown, certain uncontrollable operatives are now secured or no longer in play..."
"Like those two lunatics buried away deep on Tantalus..." The Admiral offered darkly.
A soft chuckle "The sisters? Yes...and like them..the remaining operatives are all now off of the board...Leo will be imprisoned for his crimes...a sacrificial lamb for all of his crimes...Taurus has just had his wings clipped on his final flight..even our wildcard Aquarius has been removed from the board."
"Commander Razzor...how? Word has come to me ..."
"You are as short sighted as the very men who took her off the board...a boy who needed rescuing...and a husband who like many now..are tired of the agency game...so our dear Liz is to be rewarded...sidelined with the luscious offering of a life she has always dreamed of...." The figure chuckled. "a happily ever after is far more effective than the blade of an assassin."
"So..." The Admiral began.
"So with the stage set and the pieces arranged across the board...in point of fact with the opening move already made...we can now begin..."
"So we make our first move..."
"Oh yes we do...and all key on one principal factor..."
"The Walker girl..." The Admiral began. "as well as the Director..."
The shadowy figure sighed with a note of impatience. "Hardly Admiral..I am after bigger game...the Echo and her tormentor are only offerings to those we will need as we move across the board..."
"Then what is ..."
"We shall start with the one fact all but Avalon has overlooked..."
"Project Avalon?" The Admiral said..." What have they..."
"Why Admiral...can you not see the threat..." Mister Diamond turned to face him, his face half covered in shadow as he buried his gaze into Admiral Haller's own. "I know for a fact Admiral Arak sees the potentional..."
"Arak?....the threat?" Admiral Haller stammered concerned now. "What threat..."
"Oh a most important one...a very valuable one to him and to us.."
"What threat is this?"
"Why the girl....the girl with a /true/ song in her heart..."
"K'Rika?"
"Yes that is the name she calls herself in your language...and she is very much a key to our new game..."
"So ...we.."
"Leave me for now Admiral, I require rest...I have much to do this evening...much to do..."
"Yes...yes of course...I will be on the bridge..." Admiral Haller said as he left the man alone in his quarters...."
The figure turned back to the streaking stars as they warped by his window and allowed himself a slight smile as he softly began to sing to himself..
"Late at night when the wind is still I'll come flying through your door And you'll know what love is for..."
He smirked more viciously as he continued...
I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, Yeah, yeah, yeah I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, yeah, yeah, yeah...
He stared out into the obsidian view and smiled into his own reflection as they grew nearer and neared their destination as he was already planning his next move on the game board.

The man smiled some as he opened his eyes. It was a smile devoid of mirth yet flavored with satisfaction as he had observed the crews at play the last two nights all over their starbase. His 'probes' has scoured the facility nicely and he had been able to see more than enough...all save one. It was the not seeing this one that had pleased him the most, the very one he knew to expect.
"A ticking time bomb..." He murmured.
Of course the most interesting moment came when he found his catalyst, he had looked into her eyes. Oh yes he thought as always she would perform for him, and the next round of the game could begin.
He could always rely on her, she had never once failed him.
His beloved Bluebird...
His smiled was finally filled with a degree of warmth as he returned his gaze back out into the stars. Yes, he thought...
...why it is always a pleasure to work with a professional.

The man stood quietly in the total darkness of the cabin and looked out the sole window of the room. He gazed out across the world the ship currently orbited. He sighed some as he just...listened. He purposely drowned out the closest music. He had little use for the crew other than cover at the moment. He resisted the temptation to listen during this mission of theirs but he has other things on his mind. He shook his head some in thought...
He had underestimated them when they went after those two fools Black and White. The trap he had lain for the Adagio had been near perfect and would have resulted in almost no casualties but the crop of remaining rogue operatives had been fully tainted by the 'imbalance'. He did regret the results, they had been messy...ugly.
Worst they had filled the Adagio's captain and crew with a terrible resolve...
Black and White had paid the price for their folly, and in a sense now so had he. The machinations he had laboriously set up over all these decades had in less than two years crumbled to dust. He took some of this blame onto himself, he too had grown impatient and careless and had lost control for while, blind sided by an infernal primitive machine. He then watched it all burn to the ground as the rogues reaped the rewards of their arrogance. It was however hard not to enjoy the chaos that this had given birth too...
Evolution could and would now continue, from the ashes a new phoenix would arise...and even those that stood against it were stronger for it. Yet...
A few embers still burned within the ashes of the ruined hearth....
He had been forced to take action against these remnants of a desolated dream, he could sense the pieces of the gameboard begin to shift on their own. The Adagio, The Sentinel...the sword and his shield...the beast...even his beloved bluebird...they were all still in play..
"They are responding faster than expected..." He mused to the stars before him. He could not help but feel a degree of admiration for them. Always such as they had impressed him, for in the end not one tenth of those he had served with had any amount of courage and resolve as those that opposed them.
"...yes, I hear you..." He said to the endless night where he knew his opponents lay preparing for him....
"It was from such as you that I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but a triumph over it. The bravest of you are not the ones who do not feel afraid..."
He closed his eyes as he continued "... but those who conquered that fear."
Yet he mused as he again prepared himself for the next step of what he must do, to have even one of their strength in his number...
He accepted the truth at a certain level, and took a moment to just enjoy the beauty and elegance of the sight before him, surely the game must be played...
..but not yet...not right away.

In another part of the universe, a lone figure also stood in a darkened room looking out a windows as stars streaked by. Slowly, from what initially seemed silence, the audience seems to connect to a sense of awareness not their own and hears the hints of music playing. Eventually the sound become fully audible and forms a song...

The man's eyes snapped open as the imbalance beyond the pane of the cold window for just a moment grew stable as the soft distant harmony that stretched out beyond the stygian darkness beckoned. His gloved hand reached up to remove his ever present dark mirrored glasses. His reflection showing his unseen unearthly gaze as images and memories long believed buried...tucked away arose from within. The imbalance...the chaos and the shattering of all things ordered...the drive...the love..the dedication...the devotion...all of it burning...the pain and the loss...
...the loss.
For a moment he lost himself to another time long before another long forgotten conflict that once shook the very pillars of reality. Back to a time where he had embraced the beauty of a wonderous and perfect symphony lost for all eternity. The music and the emotions that composed them shattered across the burning stars, a soldier committed to a lost cause...orders..duty..dedication...
...honor.
He let it embrace for what was an agonized eternity for him, yet only the blink of an eye for the intruder that chose that moment to break through his return to a lost age.
"Excuse me sir..." Admiral Haller said gently. "We've news...."
For a moment, a heartbeat of time, the man though to lash out at the Admiral as if this man had been the cause of his loss and separation from what had once only truly mattered to him. Reality however won out and before turning the man restored his glasses as he pushed back away from the siren's call from the beyond the dark.
"Yes, Of course you do." He clasped his hands behind his back. "Go ahead Admiral..."
"Sir the Adagio and Sentinel have left port...and are back out into space..."
"Yes, I know..."
"sir we have an asset in the area near the Sentinel....if you wish..." The Admiral stopped as the mirrored shades turned to hold his gaze."
"No Admiral...leave them and the beast alone for now..."
"Sir..." Haller began. "I do not understand why..." Again he was stopped...this time by the man turning back to the window.
"No..of course you do not..." The man drew a breath as if to calm himself.
"That will be all Admiral...thank you."
Admiral Haller frowned but nodded finding it as always hard not to obey the man. He turned and left the cabin leaving him to his thoughts as he simply stared out into space...

Her felt her presence long before she spoke, his gaze once more turned out across the stars, the echoing memory lingered.
An eternity for him...
"Sir?" The younger voice said to him. "You wanted to see me?"
He did not turn merely said to her. "You heard it?"
"I did" She nodded. "But surely it can not be any more than the fragments we've all encoun..."
He held his hand. "This is no fragment...did you forget the Adagio's fleet engagement?"
She frowned some. "Sir? Which one?"
He sighed inwardly and struggled with his frustration. "Of course you did not fully recall it...it went beyond you."
She frowned a little more. "Sir...I thought you aid it..."
"Yes yes...a fragment...it was not. It was /her/..."
"Sir...the Adagio's captain and that ship's crew had always been formidable but even they could not possibly face /her/ down and emerge victorious" She stepped closer to him and added softly. "They simply would not be able to comprehend what they were facing..."
He shook his head. "I have been a blind fool my dear Sapphire." He set his jaw "The symphony has shattered but the orchestra is still playing..."
She smirked "Sir...you told us that what remains is only a fragmented shadow of itself...when she was betrayed..."
"Yes...the betrayal..." He snarled to himself. "Many things occurred back then child...things beyond even your keen understanding..."
'But if it was /her/ then how..."
"The silence of the darkness has been filled"
"Sir?"
"A voice...a cry in the dark"
"How can this be? After all of this time..."
"So much now makes sense...it has to be. The Avanyei renewed strength...their actions to support the Alliance against the Iconians...this alliance negotiated by this captain of the Adagio...the re-appearance and liberation of the beast, and now Joshua's fall to the Sentinel's crew. The successes of the Sentinel against the sown chaos of the Salvation rogues..."
He set his jaw "And now the re-emergence of the Shield and Sword..."
"You did try and warn them about allowing them to work together sir..." She offered.
"Yes...for I know that dynamic...It does not lead to murder...the shield did not have such a song in her heart...she is duty bound...to protect. She will do so without fail..." His next words are bittersweet. "Trust me..."
She winced some. "Sir...if you are right..and what you heard was no fragment?"
Diamond smirked some and said with determination. "We get it back on the right side...back to once more restoring balance to the symphony...to once more restore the perfect harmony.."
"And if it does not?"
Diamond's voice was cooler more resolved now. "Oh ...there is no choice to be had. Only duty to restoration, I am owed this..."
He turned to level his reflective glasses at her.
"We are all owed this My Dear Sapphire...we are owed an end to the pain...so we see to it..."
He looked back out to the stars...
"...we carry out our duty."

He had kept his song dim and silent as he stalked though the embers of the silent symphony. Moved from ruined shadow to crumbled refrain. He had been correct, he could he feel it. It was /her/, she had again reached out to that damned captain of the Adagio...
But why? What was the point? What was the point...the symphony was to be restored....order to be maintained.
He was owed this...owed it!
His song softly with a deeply hostile elegance moved through the vaporous wasteland that was once indescribable beauty, a song, a harmony of infinite symphonic perfection. He cut deeply and fueled rage into his song. Yet it also caused some doubt, many of the fragments he had reacquired sung of a new harmony...a weak harmony...an indulgent one...far too permissive to maintain order...harmony and symphony.
He wished to locate his blue bird...once fully convinced her ties to the 'beast' were completely behind the distant shattering dissonance he felt throughout the crippled refrains. Yet...somehow as of late it felt now that there was more to it. He knew he had missed it...for she lingered...he could feel her...
The betrayal...all of his work since...all he had endured since...the loss the pain...the suffering at the hands of those things that embraced this apocalypse of the true symphony. He was owed the answers...owed the restoration..
He had to fight to keep his rage from giving him away across the stars...he would see justce was done...order restored...the true balance and perfection was embraced!
He was owed this!

Since the arrival at the Tantalus Colony, the silent twins had done very little. Involved themselves very little in therapy social interaction. They has remained in quiet isolation, kept to themselves even on the rare occasion when they were afforded a chance to encounter their fellow patients on a social level. Apart from rising each morning to bath and to eat, the pair merely sat in the middle of their room on a small couch, serenly holding one another hands, never uttering a word. No resistance was ever offered to the stay and always did the pair fully cooperate when asked by staff for anything. They had in fact become eerie if not model residents to the underground facility.
The staff had very much become accustomed to their everyday routine and peaceful lack of interaction.
It was such this morning as they pair following breakfast merely silently returned to their room to sit in their usual quiet isolation.
As one the pair softly stiffened, both looking up and forward at the wall sized mirror, the reflective transparent aluminium that staff used to observe the pair. No one was there to wittness them as Tabitha and Serena turned gently to look at the other.
"So it ..." Began Tabitha.
"...has begun." finished her sister. Their voices soft and almost hauntingly beautiful.
"Anger..." Tabitha Said.
"...Vengeance" Serena finished.
"Revenge..." Tabitha said sadly.
"...Justice." Serena said in return.
"Enraged..." Tabitha Said.
"...Righteousness" Serena finished.
"Order..." Tabitha said evenly.
"...Chaos." Serena finished.
"Or Neither." The both whispered, each nodding once to the other.
"The Time for.." Tabitha said gently.
"..us to choose..." Serena returned.
"...is nearing." They both said in unision.
Delicately the pair closed their eyes and leaned their heads forward to rest their foreheads softly together. No sound save for the measured breathes each took could be heard for the longest time. Finally both pairs of eyes fluttered open simultaneously and the pair sat back still gazing into each other's eyes.
"So it..." Tabitha softly began.
"...has been" Serena continued.
"Decided." The pair said gently to one another in a single voice.
Tabitha smiled a serene and lovely smile, one to match the exact smile of her sister. As one the pair nodded once to each other.
"For now..." Tabitha said after a long moment.
"...we need only" Serena continued.
"to wait." The whispered gently together.
The pair looked away once more and shifted back to their usual positions on the couch and delicately lowered their heads. Ther fingers gently squeezed in each other's hands to support the other in their final choice, as they awaited what was to come. To wait the one who would give them a choice and to once more set them free.
...their wait, was not a long one.

There was equal evidence to support the twins, Tabitha and Serena, as both villains and victims. It was for that very reason that this effort was negotiated and eventually allowed, where it goes from here...we shall see...
The twins did not receive many quests, and the ones they have had were met with apathetic silence underlying their calm cooperation in providing unique answers to questions asked of them. This time was different, despite sensing some of what was in motion and coming ahead, they were in awe of whoever was addressing them. The look was brief as a flash, before returning to normal serenity as they masked their feelings to the outside world. Whoever was on the other side of the protected booth, that twins could not directly see or hear, had their undivided attention.
"What will you do for a chance at redemption? What would you do with the freedom to choose the course of your life?"
The tone the twins took in their reply was even different...

As one the pair snapped their heads up and looked into the mirrored versions of themselves. The chests heaved a moment with one collective in drawn breath at the question and the true meaning behind it. After a only a moment of quiet they rose from the bench, an unheard of response from them for any guest to date.
Tabitha, as always spoke first. "We shall..."
"..do what..." Serena added breathless awe as clear in her voice as her sister's.
"...must be done." They said in unison.
"Not because..." Tabitha said softly.
"..it is what..." Serena add gently.
"...you wish." They said together.
"We do so..." said Tabitha with some pride.
"...simply because.." Serena added.
"We choose to do so, we choose." they said in unison to the unseen voice adding then as they slowly lowered themselves to their knees before their reflective images. Four mirrored heads lowered before the voice as all four, mirrored and real clutched each other's hands tightly with their renewed resolve.
"We choose..." Tabitha said in reverence.
"...so we can..." Serena added delicately.
"finally and truly be free..." They said in one voice.

Sapphire entered the silent bridge of Admiral Haller's flagship, and headed straight for the ready room. She barely looked at the dozen of so silent Starfleet Officers that quietly worked their consoles. Each of them, like the entire crew were ordered as such. Their eyes softly burning a fiery orangish red as they performed the necessary tasks required of the to ordered perfection. Each dutifully awaiting the time when more may be required of them from the man she was on her way to see.
She smirked as she entered the room past the rigid and silent Admiral, standing as if a lone Sentinel beside the office that had once been his.
She waited as the door closed behind her, and watched as the one she obediently served dealt with one of /her/ things. Standing before her a shadowy beast, a bizarre hybrid of a spider and crustacean stood transfixed before the man known only as Mr Diamond. Its haunting hisses, click and whispers filled the room, as he regarded the beast silently listening. She has already felt, and understood why it was here and knew already what it was trying to explain to him.
In the blink of an eye and while the large beast as in mid sentence, Diamond lashed out. With inhuman speed his blade appeared in his hand and with just one lighting fast swipe took the beast's head from its shoulders. Diamond turned, sheathing his blade as he walked over to the ready room window as the creatures alien form crumbled to the deck. Sapphire watched unemotionally and waited for him to speak...
"Have Opal breed us another 'First'...this one was...found wanting." He said to her, his glasses illuminate by the white ambient light from beyond the glass.
"So the .... new assets failed to retrieve her?" Sapphire inquired gently.
"That much is obvious..."
"So the Sentinel is...."
"Going right where she wants them..." He allowed himself a smirk. "I do so love the irony behind this..."
"I am sure this infuriates her...I still do not understand why we even reached out to that..."
"She..." He smirked some. "I know you do not understand, you are far too young my dear to remember.../they/ have their purposes at times...purposes we can exploit if we are ever to restore the symphony."
Sapphire sighed and then tried. "And the Adagio....did you..."
"That is none of your concern my dear..." He drew a sharp breath and let it out slowly. "That is a personal matter..." He then smirked. "A payment long overdue..."
"So then shall I prepare the team for a follow up mis..." She stopped at his minor head shake.
"No...each moment of pain is mine to relish. I've left a mark...opened a wound...I intend to let it bleed out some...and then I will finish that blight on the harmony when it has turned sour enough....more pain for the one I truly seek to punish..."
"Sir..."
'A composition,..a true piece of harmony must be composed properly my dear sapphire...undertaken with practiced ordered precision...in order to ensure it is a true masterpiece"
"Yes sir..."
Diamond softened his tone. "Do not worry we will deal with the renegade and those held most dear soon enough...for now...we have the Sentinel to deal with...to herd and deliver."
Sapphire smiled at this and nodded. "Yes sir"
"Now child do as I said...see to it that Opal breeds us a far better 'First' then this pitiful thing....and update the others who will go with it..."
"Yes sir..." She turned to go when...
"And Sapphire..."
She turned back. "Yes sir?"
"Awaken Obsidian...he is to go in with the beasts this time..."
Her eyes widened some but she nodded. "Yes sir...Ill see to it immediately."
With that she was gone, leaving him alone in silence to listen to the compisition already playing, as he tried to ignore what he believed was disharmony in the shattered symphony of the stars.

"Reports are coming from all of our assets now...New Daran..Klannis VI, Drozana and the Andor shipyards...all showing inexplicable malfunctions."
His jaw set as hard as marble as he listened not only to her and the notes of dissonance of her song...but the disruption that was beginning across the piece he had worked so hard to compose.
"Khitomer..we aren't hearing from ether the Governor or his military attache..." She shook her head. "Opal suspects the same has happened at the San Francisco site....it would seem Admiral Arak has ordered a change up in the Avalon staff so our asset has been randomly taken out of the loop there as well..."
He seethed tightly closing his eyes now as she went on.
"We can write off the Ferengi Daimon who was in control of the Batarian Mines....seems he slipped in his mud bath..broke his neck..." She clicked her tongue. "Several of our Tal Shiar boys and girls have vanished...save for the cell leader..."
He looked over to her "Where is .."
"Pinned to a wall by a very large and sharp knife..." She showed him the image. "His throat was cut simultaneously as he was being impaled...seems like someone didn't like his targeting innocent children and their families in his last interrogation sweep." She smirked. "I will give you three guesses who did that...and the first two do not count..."
Sapphire cleared her throat and droned on. "The next one is a particular favorite of mine...one of our Orion Syndicate assets just turned up at a Federation Security station on DS K-7, he turned over state's evidence to the Federation on himself and his part of the syndicate...he also had a note...that read 'Just saying Hi you bastard...love and kisses Morgan."
"There is also now a planet wide state of emergency on Bajor this is only the second time..."
His fist slammed hard against the surface of his desk interrupting her as the impact cascaded over the dissonance surrounding them both...she winced some in fear and hugged her PADD to her chest.
"It is /her/ it has to be her!" He seethed he looked up at her centering her in his mirrored shades. "What about the Adagio..."
Sapphire paled. "We only have sketchy reports so far..."
"Go on..."
"The V616 Monocerotis black hole has exploded and we now have a new star in its place..."
He drew a breath and asked in a fierce quiet tone. "And...."
"There was a malfunction of the Klingon Science vessel's impulse engines...and not only did the Adagio fight through the pull of the black hole...they somehow endured the explosion of the black hole and protected the science vessel as well...the Romulans fled prior to the explosion...there was no engagement..nor casualties...
"How..."
"We did detect a pulse from a crystal of..."
He rose and snarled as he headed for the window..."Of course that bitch was taught to use it...should have purged the entire Avynei race when i had the chance..."
"Yes because there would be no disharmony in that action.." Sapphire added wincing.
"I swear I may have to go out there myself to wring that blue neck right in front of her entire arrogant upstart crew! I still have not forgiven them for their murder of my pet on HC-19!"
"Sir,..."
"She wants to play chess with me..i will take her queen and her knight in one full sweep right in front of..."
The ready room door opened and a slim attractive dark skinned woman entered.
He looked over to her and fixed his gaze into hers. "Report Opal..."
Opal lowered her head in reverence to him.
"Her 'highness' has informed us, Obsidian has begun his attack."
Diamond straightened up and nodded. "Finally...some good news...relay to Obsidian his priority goal is the beast and my blue bird...let her creatures feed on the rest of the crew.."
"The entire crew sir?" Sapphire said stepping forward some.
Diamond whirled on her and said dangerously.
"The entire crew...that entire ship is a raving storm of utter chaos..." He turned back to his window and closed his eyes as each dissonant note of the madness spreading in the stars beyond pierced his ears.
"The sooner that crew is removed from the symphony...the better off the whole of the universe will be...

He stood enraged in the center of what was once Admiral Haller's ready room, fists clenched at his sides. His entire being shook with rage fueled by his own shock...when he spoke it resonated across the ruined and imbalanced symphony...
"She KNEW....She KNEW!" He screamed. "She called me out...MOCKED ME!....that insignificant blue bitch played me!"
Sapphire cringed and cowered within, she had barely recovered from his powerful explosive reaction that destroyed everything in the ready room around them as they had returned to Admiral Haller's flagship.
"That was why she did not pursue us into the vortex....why she mockingly fired a useless barrage at the Wyvernaire....she knew I would come out to finish her off....she knew I did not know..." He flew over ad slammed his fist so hard into the ship's bulkhead he dented it.
"That smug antennaed lying bitch KNEW!" He shivered with pure unadulterated rage..."She lured me right to the bridge...just to show me....to mock everything we have done...did you see their eyes...feel their songs.." he whirled at Sapphire now..."DID YOU NOT HEAR THEM??"
Sapphire cringed again as he slammed into the wall and stared at him unsure of what to say. She saw as well just what Captain Talia had done to him...to all of them. It was as plain as day the moment they had arrived. She herself had wanted to cleave that upstart Andorian's head right off her shoulders for the disrespect she showed him....she had indeed mocked her lo...him, right before her eyes. She had seen just what had upset him with her own disbelieving eyes...and wondered just how the captain had even managed this...
She herself had reviewed thee Adagio logs...all of the reports and AAR's filed by the treacherous Andorian since she joined Starfleet. Nothing...nothing at all was ever recorded about such a contact...she had concealed it...kept it even from Starfleet...and by doing so had humiliated her right in front of Diamond...as she had humbled and humiliated him...humiliated them all...in one move....
In doing so..she saw not a shattered crew...filled with fear and doubt over the shame and defeat that he had visited on Talia...their captain. They had not been cowed by her purposeful disfigurement...no...this blue witched had rallied them all. She saw it in their eyes...the revenge burning in the eyes of the Trill who sat at the Start Ops console, the withering contempt that Klingon woman had for them...the rage in the Delta Team leaders eyes...the unwavering aim of the phasers leveled at each of them...
Even more humiliating...the desire to bring them in cuffs before a court...one of their courts by that Vulcan who saw them as only mere criminals...their songs held no fear...no terror...they held no awe..or respect...
That witch's crew wanted either their blood...or righteous justice...unified as one against them...
She too had seen how Talia had turned that against them in just those fleeting seconds they had been aboard that cursed ship...right before the true reality sunk in...there was nothing to do but to flee...especially given the true power behind what Talia had with her...with them...the power of it filled the ship...
How did she do it...HOW?!
Sapphire felt a deep well of shame and helplessness even now...
For now all she could do was nod to him and meekly say...
"Yes sir..."
"I will rip that woman to shreds with my bare hands...this is NOT OVER!" He raged "I will pour what is left to her at the feet of my 'beloved' and let her see...what she has made me do!"
Sapphire winced at his term.
"Access the personal files of every crew member of the Adagio...I want the names and locations of every single member of their families...every one of them!" He shook now white with anger. "If we can no longer strike at that ship I will break their souls to shards....I will show them what true pain and suffering is!"
"SIR!" Sapphire snapped out her eyes wide with the fear of the horror of such an act...
He whirled and met her gaze, her tone...her song showed him right then how she must see him. He closed his eyes and lowered his head.
"Forgive me sapphire...I..."
The door to the ready room opened at that moment...Opal stepped in quietly.
"What?" He looked up and over to her as Sapphire did.
"I.." She swallowed and sighed. "Topaz and Obsidian have returned to us..."
He allowed himself a small smile of relief, and nodded to her. "What is their report..." He had purposefully chosen this pair to be as direct and as lethal in dealing with the Sentinel.
Opal meet his gaze and simply said. "It's not good."
Diamond felt his heart sink and his anger burning within once more.
"Elaborate..." He hissed through clenched teeth.
"The Sentinel and her crew drove off and defeated /her/ horde...to a being...all gone." Opal said softly. "From what little i saw of their battle abilities...the Sentinal's crew were only unified by our attacks...and ..they fight...using the most unorthodox methods..."
He seethed "Of course they do! They are chaos incarnate!" He crossed the room in three strides to her. "Obsidian said he could take down bot the Sword and the Shield personally..."
Opal kept his gaze despite her fear. "It would appear his estimate of how well he would fair...were a little too optimistic."
"Opal..." Diamond warned her.
"The Sword and Shield...are no longer at odds...as we were told they would be. Not to mention...an unorthodox attack left Obsidian vulnerable in his battle against the Sword. That and a timely intervention from the Shield...left him even more vulnerable, the Sword finished him off after his own armor AI compromised him...in point of fact..he never should've engaged them as Topaz and the Horde had already failed."
Diamond frowned. "His AI....how..why..."
Opal sighed once more. "Sir...this gets worse...Topaz will no longer fight...until she speaks with you...she reports...that the Sentinel has..."
Diamond looked up at the ceiling and hissed "The Guardian...as they call her..."
"She directly intervened as Topaz was seriously wounded on the Sentinel bridge...sir..Topaz has returned with a song...she wants to perform..."
Diamond closed his fists and said darkly. "Strip her of her armor..and lock her up...full isolation...no one sings to her..." He drilled his gaze into Opal's..."Do you understand me?"
Sapphire spoke up. "If she will not sir...I will see to it..."
"Oh no...Opal will comply...wont you my dear?" Diamond kept his gaze locked burning into hers.
"Yes sir" Opal said lowering her gaze "It shall be done..."
"Is Obsidian also no longer willing to fight...has he turned traitor?" Sapphire said derisively.
"Obsidian is in critical condition and currently in surgery..." Opal said to her with a wasp like look.
Diamond waved a hand to silence them both. "I do not doubt Obsidian's resolve..this defeat will only further fuel your brother's need to face tem once more..."
He drew a deep breath before continuing. "So if the Sentinel still lives...I am to assume the Beast is still aboard...as well as my little Blue Bird?"
Opal nodded.
"And that we just lost control of the Monolith site?"
Opal drew a deep breath herself now. "Sir the Avernus star system is now currently garrisoned by a rather sizable Starfleet task force headed by the USS Adagio...and Avacyn."
Again, outmaneuvered by her blue witch..."So we are cut off from our unusual ally then?"
"For the time being yes sir...and...there is more."
"Of course there is..." He droned, refusing to ask himself how much worse could this get..
"We confirmed she is behind all of this...she is now hunting us...with a team of 'special help'"
Diamond looked to the deck and smiled some..having to admire her some now. "Special help..."
"The twins...Leo...to name but two.." Opal said.
"Is this confirmed Intel?" He looked over now at the only item in the room undamaged by his rage.
"Yes sir...it is confirmed..."
"So...she has empowered allies of her own now.." He walked over to the item and gazed upon it. "Well maybe it is time we upped our roster and empowered them as well."
Sapphire looked to Opal and back to him. "Sir...we do not need his..."
"Leave me ..both of you for now..." He gazed mor at the item as he dismissed them.
"Yes sir..." they both intoned and quickly left the ready room.
Diamond smiled now. "Oh yes..it is time to bring in some old friends and see to it they get a second chance. He and his forces and their cause were bloodied now, but not yet finished.
He stepped back and admired the set of powered armor that hung before him. Its gleaming black on black armor was fully restored, repaired and updated. His face reflected back in the mirrored visor of its helm. He chuckled to himself, those fools thought you were powerful when you sung with the voice of a mere Travynai Archon and hr captives...how much more in awe they will be to hear you sing with the voices of pure order now...
He chuckled some more as he thought, oh yes...it is time they heard a proper and true chorus...

Josh readjusted his pillow for the fifth time as he tried to get comfortable. Josh had been trying to read o book on his PADD for the better part of two hours now and still comfort had eluded him. He let his head fall to back to bang on the head rest and sighed. He was now into his third month of observation here at the Regula 4 Rehabilitation colony. His JAG lawyer had pushed for it, despite the dozens of charges levied at him. He had tried at first to resit, mostly out of guilt of what he had become, of what he had allowed himself to become. His desire to serve had pushed his loyalty to the point where he had been foiled and used by a damn machine...a god damn machine.
Order, it was all he sought. To restore order and maintain the law. That was what had drove him to be the best of the best of his academy class. To be the best of the best of those selected to the elite core of Starfleet Intelligence, Project Salvation. To be the best of their best...an elite operative. To find an edge to protect the Federation, to see law and order ...this justice to those who could never have it for themselves. His desire was used against him...tricked by a machine that sought change throuhg murderous evolution...
Its goal only for itself...
It had gained control due to sloppiness...carelessness on the part of the Director and Dr Rendino. Through their carelessness...so many had been hurt...and from that order he dreamed after...it became fouled and corrupted by events created by a moment of utter chaos.
Chaos...he frowned as his frustration grew.
No, he thought as he struggled with this. How is this...right. Yet his own brother...his little brother who he swore to his parents he would look after was hurt too. Now he was...with the Director's /thing/...not to mention the beast was loose. He saw it on the Sentinel....
God he thought. Billie Jo...you don't see it...and here I am...where I can't protect you....
He flung his PADD to the floor and groaned frustrated.
How can I protect you Billie? Do you not see the beast? Jon...god damn..Jon...
How can I protect them...how...
"How indeed Joshua?"
Josh snapped his eyes open and looked over to the corner of his room, his eyes widening in mild shock at the sound of he all too familar voice.
"Did you think truly you were abandoned Joshua?" The man standing in the corner of the room leveled his mirrored shades to meet Josh's own gaze.
"How...how are you even here?"
"I heard you old friend...I feel as you do...you know this is something we have always agreed upon."
Josh shook his head. "This is crazy..Salvation is..."
"Its finished Josh...the director has been dethroned...his petty little empire shredded by chaos...all of you...all of us ..used by an old man simply trying to save his daughter." The man shook his head. "A century and a half of carefully honed law and order discarded by a selfish old man and the folly of the careless old woman we called Administrator..."
Josh shook his head and sat up to meeting his gaze "But you were..."
"Used...and cast aside by a machine and a selfish old bastard that did not care for an instance about any of us...did not care of the collatoral damage ...thousands hurt or killed over one hundred years..."
"Now look...."
"You suffered the most Joshua...lost to the mind of the beast...lost to all she was...and now is once more..."
Josh paled some.
"Oh yes...you did not know...the piece of the beast has been returned to her...she is still aboard that ship, your brother serves on...still in the care of the woman that you love..."
Josh closed his hands into fists and looked to the floor.
"Yes...I have heard your frustration Joshua...and I understand you desire to help them...to protect them and keep them safe."
"I....I...I am trapped her and...that thing...with Jon...and the beast....Billie Jo....I can't help them....I can't.."
"What if I could show you a way to help them Joshua.."
Josh closed his eyes tightly. "No....how could you..."
"The beast....is under the protection now of Leo...." He paused to let that sink in....
Josh snarled some..."Leo..."
"Yes working for the beast to keep Billie Jo safe...."
"That bastard...he knew what she was to me..."
"He was one the director's Josh...just like Aquarius...just like the Director...they only care for themselves..."
"But Liz..."
"Sold you our to clear her mother's name...or did you already forget who her mother was?"
"No...I.."
"Joshua...Leo is partnered with Gemini...they have been set free...and stand against us...."
"I ...how can I ...I am...." He felt his shoulder's slump..."Jon....Billie..."
Josh felt the man's gentle touch on his shoulder. "What if I showed you a way that you could protect them...a way to restore you but keep YOU in control?"
Josh looked up into the mirrored shares, into his own distorted reflection. "What?"
"I can help you protect those that you love...you...and not someone who will stab you in the back...but to do so again but this time as a proper agent of law and order...restored to rank...Leo is a wanted man and Gemini escpaed from Tantalus...the beast is loose on the galaxy...hiding on the Sentinel...and that thing is set to be married to your brother..."
"No..no..we can't..." Josh set his jaw and drew a breath resolved the feeling of purpose flowing back into him. "I wont let them be hurt..."
"Of course not..." The man said sympathetically.
"You promise me...you will help me protect them..."
"I promise..." The man stepped back and offered his hand. "Jon and Billie Jo await you Joshua..."
Josh struggled with the turmoil of his decision a long moment before looking up at the man. "For Jon....and for Billie..."
The man simply nodded as if giving Josh a solemn oath.
With this Josh took his hand, and then in the wink of an eye...a brief flash of light...and a soft ethereal beautiful hum that lingered in the empty room...
...they were gone.

Serena walked around their fallen foes, stepping over their padded armored bodies with a soft silent grace as the riot outside continued. At her feet her sister knelt gingerly cradling the almost lifeless form's helmeted head in her lap. The powered armor figure had led this 'elite' team of Klingon special forces to Khitomer to quell the riots and unrest that had recently explode into the faces of the Klingon Governor of the colony who had worked so closely with them. Once a source of mining and resources for the fugitive Diamond, at one time a well heeled and ordered machine now erupted into chaos and disorder...
Serena and her sister had arrived to see this no longer remained the case and had found the methods on display here similar to the old days of the Empire of the 23rd Century. Forced labor camps, enforced curfews and brutal extreme discipline and punishment. As the unease was already in place...the pair needed only to whisper from the shadows and tempt the laborer's inherent warrior culture and instincts to take a stand...carefully coordinated sniper shots, certain police and security officials 'vanishing' and the chaos the sisters sought had been easy to stoke from a fading ember and nurture into a raging inferno all across the colony...
All of it to lead the pair to the wicked behind the curtains. Both sisters knew the mentality of the colony's true oppressors all too well. When backed into a wall, such believers in extreme order have only one response....only one tactic they cling to. The warriors had all fallen before the lethal ballet performed by the sisters as they had gathered this night to openly fire into and slaughter the rioters. The deck of their barrack was now drenched in the blood of those who would enslave and slaughter their own...this only left the conductor of this aria of nightmares. The armored warrior sent here by Diamond to cull the disordered herd and force them to submit once more.
The twins had saved her for the end...
She had fought well, with a commitment again the twins had long understood...had once long respected. When she finally fell, it was Tabitha that had caught her and eased her dying form to the blood soaked barracks floor. All around them, beyond the walls of the fortified barracks the sounds of chaos grew closer. The laborer mob closed in on the governor's mansion with each passing moment, seeking their long overdue justice.
"Sssshhh" Tabitha cooed softly through her emotionless white mask to the fallen knight of order.
The armored form jerked and twitched as the life ebbed from it, a soft frantic muffled gurgling could be heard beneath the visor. Serena stopped circling and looked down into its fading gaze, her own masked features distorted by its mirrored visor.
Tabitha reached down and slowly undid the armored helmet and eased it off the fallen warrior's head. A slight mane of black hair filled out, tousled and bloody as a pair of soft brown eyes now wide with fear and pain looked up into Tabitha's masked gaze. A gentle back glove caressed the hair out of her opponent's face, with an almost maternal grace.
"Sssshh...ssssh" Tabitha cooed to her once more.
The human woman once known by her superior as Sardonyx struggled to breath as a trail of blood slipped from her lips to streak down her cheek. Serena looked lower to the pair of precise and elegant slices across the woman's neck that her blade and the one her twin used to end this woman's life. Serena canted her head as she noted how pale Sardonyx had become...
...it would be over soon.
Tabitha said softly as she gazed into the woman's eyes..."Why you were not a Starfire at all..."
"..No, not at all" Serena completed as she gazed down as well.
"This was not your fault..." Tabitha lightly caressed her cheek.
"...your were just too high strung..." Serana said.
"...and far too young." They said softly together to her as the light slowly and finally ebbed from her eyes.
Both twins listened as the song within softly began to fade away. Tabitha pulled the lifeless body into her arms and held her tightly as the song drifted away into the night. Serena canted her head towards the armored windows as the orange glow from the fires below on the streets seemed to glow brighter...she slowly turned her head back down to her sister...
"They come for the rest..." She said to her twin.
"...I know...I know..." Tabitha said still embrace the now silent form as her sister lay a hand on her shoulder.
"...for it is time for us to go." They said as one. Tabitha gingerly lay the armored body of the young woman on the barracks floor and softly folded her gauntleted hands over her chest. Serena knelt as Tabitha rose, to set Sardonyx's helmet gently beside her head. Shw too then rose and looked to her sister saying...
"For the sword outwears its sheath ..."
Tabitha canted her head and softly added. "And the soul wears out the breast ..."
"And the heart must pause to breathe ..." Serena gently returned as she offered her hand to her sister. "And love itself have rest." They both said as one as Tabitha took her sister's hand tightly, in an instance they were gone. Two wraiths stepping once more back into the shadows...
Outside the fighting raged and the fires burned hotter and hotter as the crowds broke their the barricades and rushed the governor's final holdout. No longer did the sounds of oppressors tormenting forced laborer's fill this colony's streets...now only the symphony of warriors fighting warriors for justice was being performed for the stars above..
