Val worked in Astrometrics to get the work already down to activate the UNITY outpost activated once again. She made sure to alert the Skara ship of her intentions so everything would be ready when they arrived over the world once again. Finding a race that was protecting the UNITY ruins was a surprise. One she did not anticipate. Sure, she suspected that someone might have lay claim to the world they were seeking, but all scans showed that anything and everything of value had been destroyed in the bombardment. Somehow they made peace with the Skara after the initial first contact. Val wanted to know what the Captain was thinking at the time when they open talks with the Skara. Well, that was in the future, so she focused on the now. Having the UNITY Pixies in her cybernetic systems helped a great deal in getting everything back up and running again.
She still had yet to do a test on the Pixies to see how they worked. No doubt they would probably tell her if she asked and made a note to do so when the opportunity provided itself. First the outpost and learn what secrets it still holds. Perhaps a way to the UNITY world itself, if it still exists. She made another note to ask the Skara themselves if they held such records. Considering that their computer programs contain UNITY base code, the Skara perhaps benefited from UNITY technology as they explored their area of space. No doubt such wonderful discoveries advanced their technology greatly. One reason to respect their protective posture. If it got into the wrong hands, technology like this could be devastating.
It could be corrupted and turned into something like the Borg. What did the Pixies call them; soulless? That sounded about right. A soulless entity traveling space harvesting other lifeforms into their perversion of perfection. The UNITY was not like that. Even their nanites possessed more respect for living beings than the Collective could ever manage. One day she would like to stick to the Collective and show them what a former drone could do without their millions of voices screaming in her head to take away from others.
Perhaps her desire to see the UNITy may have blinded her to the potential dangers of resurrecting the race. She still had little clue what they were like. The Skara seemed to rever or respect them. They had a deeper understanding of their ways than first let on. They are the perfect guides for this exploration. Val hopes they would guide them wisely as they searched.
She stretched and looked at the scan. Making a few corrections, she sent the data forward to the Command Staff with another going to the Skara ship. No reason to not include their guides. Thinking about the Pixies, she summons them forward, "show what kind of design upgrades you have on file for me? Use the medical database with my files for comparison purposes." She glanced up and said, "Sery could you allow them access to the systems?"

A selected little swarm of Pixies appeared as summoned from Val's implant and cheerfully said "Yes Director?" They all listened very intently and then...
"Why of course director!" The little silvery diamond shape waited patiently as it hovered in the air before her as they waited for Sery to grant them access..
Sery respond immediately with...
"Yeah....I am thinking Val, you need to run this by Varel or Shantal before I do this honey..." Sery said gently..."Not that I have an issue with the little sweeties..."
"But just to cover your bases okies? Call one of both of them for the needed authorization?"

"Oh, right." Things to do when dealing with alien technology, make sure you have everyone else in the loop. She tapped her communicator, "Commander Shantel." She waits for the her to respond. "I'm working on a project with the UNITY Pixies and want them to have access to the systems. It would be a controlled project with strict limitations. They seem to have some kind of conversion process and I want to see what that entails. I want them to have access to my medical records so they will know what they are working with." Classic Borg butchery, but Val refrain from speaking that thought aloud. She starts working a mathematical equation while she waits for the Commander to respond.

Gathering up all her padds she goes down to the location of the XO. Maybe she just open multiple headings in the same PADD; that worked. She hurries a little faster to see the Commander. "I'm here as requested, ma'am."

Val will find Shantal in an auxiliary power room doing routine inspection and maintenance. Shantal did not turn from her work as Val entered and spoke. Shantal stayed focused on her tasks as she replied, "Jour vrequest vwas vrather vague, care to elaborate?"

"My apologies, but UNITY Pixies suggested they could upgrade me. I'm curious about what they mean by that and want to run a computer simulation allowing them to show me. So to do that I want them to interact with the data directly by interfacing with our systems."

Shantal paused a moment as she listened and then walked over to another piece of equipment and was opening up a side panel. She replied as she worked, "I see. Let's put jour vrequest conversation on hold fer a sec, aye? Can jou tell me about vwot happened vwith the Skari earlier?

Val thought for a moment. What was the best way to answer that question without complaining about the captain. "Well as far as i understand the Skari have a connection to the UNITY,rather through studying their technology or something else. They very protective of that tech though they still have problems interfacing with it. It might be because they fully biologial while the Unity are cyborgs, or so I speculate." Deep breath. "The Skari seem to have a deeper understanding of thr Unity. They know that thr Pixies recognize me as a director of the Unity systems. Which the pixies asked and I accepted. Thats about all I know for now till new informatiin becomes available" And breath.

Shantal stopped her work by gently closing the panel and placing her tools on a nearby workbench, each movement deliberate and controlled. She turned and faced Val as she finished speaking and stared hard into her eyes, unblinking for several moments. When Shantal finally spoke her normal accent was missing replaced instead with deep, serious tones.
"I asked what happened."

"Well,we almost started an extragalatic war with the Skara. They had not been the most receptive to our presence in their space. Understandable in first contact situations, but i think things may have been taken too far. We did wind disabling the ship when the situation became hostile. So far the situation has been pacified because of my connection with unity nanites."

Shantal raised her voice and threw up both hands as she replied, "Oh yes! Thank all we hold sacred you were able to pacify them!"
Shantal took one step closer and vigorously gestured to the door to accent what she was saying, "Your extraordinary efforts must be a factor in why I have all these reports from the bridge officers stating 'unusual behavior and actions not befitting Starfleet protocol and creed'! Dammmit Val! I got a security recommendation to remove you from active duty and throw you in the brig until we can fecking figure out what to do with you!"
Shantal stepped close to Val now, the fury evident in her features as she yelled:
"Were you ordered to infiltrate the Skara's systems?!"
"Were you ordered to disable the Skara's vessel?!"
Shantal's fury still evident when her tone shifted to one of icy, calm:
"Can you conceive the repercussions of what was done?"
"Of what you have done?"

Val flinched when the Commander unloaded on her. She even physically stepped away, fearing for her personal safety. Sputtering she said, "What the hell are you talking about? Why would I be a security risk on the bridge?! You were there when we made first contact with the UNITY Beacon. You were also there when we pissed the beacon off. Just like when we were pissing off the Skara for no damn reason!"
Several decks, emotional levels of the crew start elevating. Val anger was rising and she was no longer focused on keeping her psychic ability locked down. "Hey, did anything think to pull me aside while this was going on and speak with me about my interacting with the UNITY. Answer: NO! Oh wait, YOU WERE ON THE BRIDGE TOO. So this must have been a real big surprise since you were standing right there watching it happen. First contact with the UNITY Beacon, nope, didn't see anything. Let's put the science officer in the brig..."
She stopped. She did not like the direction this was going because it made no sense. But let's continue down this road to see where it went. "Did I crack the Skari code, yes, everyone on the damned bridge knew I was doing it, including the captain. When we started trading fire with the Skari ship, I did what I normally do during combat and rendered their systems useless. What I ALWAYS do during combat; that is well documented."
"But forget that, now everyone who was there has a damn problem with it! Hey Varel was contacted by the Dark during that incident; let's blow her out the airlock. You know, just in case!"
Val nerual implant hit the point that the systems alerted Elusive that she was careening out of her happy place. The Pixies in her systems also were probably not be happy that one of the borg implants was feeding on her bio-energy to energize same implant.

Shantal's icy tone continued after she let Val retort.
"I believe your order of events is muddled. The Skara were not considered hostile, nor were we are red alert, until your intrusion into their systems was detected. That is when the situation escalated."
-suddenly audio repeats for Val to here in her own voice-
Val, "Should have pulled the trigger." Val, "Boom, dead snakes."
Shantal interjected, "Your vocal anger continued against the Skara. You clearly saw them as an enemy and obstacle to your goals, others did not..."
Val,"Shit..." Val,"Uh, Captain. We need to run. Now."
Shantal interjected again, "This is when your intrusion was detected I assume. Despite your claims, the bridge crew seemed to believe you were working on code on your console not on the Skara vessel itself."
Shala, "YOU SPEAK OF PEACE! AND YOU INVADE MY SHIPS SYSTEMS??!" Varel, "Captain, recommend initiating red alert." Joy, "Are... now going active again... Red Alert."
-the audio ends with the red alert klaxxon playing- and the final words from Val, "Sorry, I'm sorry, I thought you wanted us to crack their code."
Shantal continued, "Shortly after you executed your 'deus ex machina' moment, disabling the Skara vessel. The Collective would be proud of its prodigal daughter, if it were capable of such a thing. You proved resistance was futile by taking agency away from your enemy."
Shantal's fierce gaze stayed locked on Val's eyes, "Look at us Val. You...me...all liberated from the Collective, we are feared and you just validated all of those fears..."

The lastbremark was a slap in Val's face and from the last person who should have knowen better. Then again that was probably the point. "To think i actually wasted time and effort respecting you."
Val heard enough, this was not a dress down, this was a career execution. "I'm invoking Article 31 of the Star Fleet Code of military justice to seej legal counsel. I'm also invokoing my right to remain silent as of now." Her disheartened feelings ended the potintial brawels on thd other decks.
"So, brig or my quarters?" At thus point Val did 1nog give a damn anymore.
