I was just saying that in my opinion, armor looks out of place on a Starfleet Officer... but thats just becasue ive been spoiled by years of Trek shows where reality was often times pushed to the wayside That's because, based on the sometimes terrible costume design, they'd have shown up wearing laser tag outfits. and sadly budget reasons! I do agree if combat is expected, I do know Talia who can be very military minded would want her people protected by whatever state of the art armor is available As Anja has said. Liz too who is very NOT military minded has often worn the modern armor when combat was expected. She feels like the little brother in a christmas story who cant put his arms down when she wears it...but she wears it... Liz hates being Borg probed too T I think it sorta boils down to 25th century common sense, though I do see B's point about the Shows never really showing it even during some dominion war episodes on DS9. Just my two cents!

Yea, makes perfect sense to wear it.. and i damn sure if the Admiral ever had to storm a beachhead or take a hill, he'd wear the best the Federation has to offer and insist that all his men had the same.
The guy was security way back when, mind you.
But astheticaly, it always seemed wrong to wear anything othe then the duty uni.

Keep in mind too that there's "armor" (the generic armored bodysuits that anyone can get, plain red/blue/yellow-accented armors with that metallic sheen), and then there's the MACO armor (clearly designed specifically for combat, with a space-worthy appearance, probably inspired by the mjolnir armor from Halo). The former is what Liz (and other Ayanami crew) have worn for years, and would probably be the 25th-century equivalent to the bulletproof vests that cops wear today, under the uniform. I.e. an extra layer of protection, but that's about it. the latter, on the other hand, is clearly designed to maximize combat performance and survivability. With what appears to be thrusters (the blue-glowing bits on various pieces), it's possible that the MACO armor could either enhance the wearer's speed, or perhaps provide somewhat-limited mobility in space or weightless environments. This would hold true if the MACO armor was designed with fighting the Undine in mind (a species with the ability to survive in a vacuum and mostly-weightless environments). It might be a good idea for us to actually define the MACO armor's capabilities for RP purposes. There are 3 (maybe 4?) different appearances too, which could be an evolution of design (each one an improvement over the previous), or situation-specific (space, underwater, urban, etc). Plus there's the MACO rifle (pulsed-beam with a sniper mode), and the newer adapted version (pulsewave rifle with a grenade attachment). Plenty of RP options here.

No wonder the Endeavour has problems... Sentinel has been using mk XII tech for a year or two now. I guess that's why the Sentinel is the best ship in the fleet

I know the Captain's shaving her head and getting drunk, and the Chief of Security is getting drunk and booty grinding the XO.

That was one night... Erys is fine now. *twitch* I don't know, she got annoyed at a Muppets song, that suggests serious mental instability. Everyone loves the Muppets.
