"I asked a serious question what you hope to bring to the Sentinel and I expect an answer." "What answer can I give, except that I hope to bring my many talents as both an intelligence officer and a diplomat for your purposes. The same as any officer would want, really. To utilize my talents for the group."

"How you chose to answer... or not says a lot about you, Victor. I think you are very used to doing what you want lieutenant and you are having trouble dealing with the fact those days are over."
She paused a moments as she stared at him, "I'll rescind your bridge ban. I will reiterate, if you are on my bridge, you are there for a reason. If you need to leave it, you get authorization first. We will not have this conversation again."
Still staring at him, "Anything else Mister Springfield?"

He spoke with a diplomatic tone of voice. "I do think there's one thing to discuss. From my perspective, Commander, this isn't really about the bridge ban. Maybe the bridge ban brought this all to a head, but it's really about how you see my role on this ship."
"In my experience, the position of intelligence liaison -- and diplomatic liaison -- is very flexible. I'm not accustomed to doing what I want, but I am accustomed to that kind of flexibility. And I think, to be quite honest, that flexibility is a benefit to the ship. You have, at your command, a way to access the extensive Starfleet Intelligence database. Most of it is open to our use if it pertains to the mission at hand. If I might be so presumptive, I think you're seeing this as a liability, when it's actually an asset. There are certain insights into a situation that you can only get through an Intelligence officer. It's a unique position."
"Now, I do have skills in diplomacy, which you've been skeptical about in the past. All I can say is that I have a history with the Traveyni. And none of it was good... and that's an understatement. That was a fluke. I have a track record of successful negotiations which I can present to you if you wish. My last Starfleet skills assessment rated me as an expert in diplomacy. This is still a function I can perform for you, even if I'm the intelligence liaison on paper."
"I can understand why you -- and probably half of the crew -- want to give me some hard knocks. And hell, maybe I deserve a few of them. I'm confident, though, that if I can do my job to the fullest, you'll see that I'm not just a problem waiting to happen."
