The Caitan scowled some at his yawn but continued. "I am dropping something off at her request."S'Ress had to admit as she nodded.
"Indeed, I am not." She smirked at him some. "It is not like I came here first looking for her, like some fool..."
"However she was not working out on the holodeck nor within the gymn, nor was she in prayer at the ship's chapel nor sleeping in her quarters. Which is where one is more likely to find her off watch..."
"This was more of a last ditch effort..." Her whiskers twitched.
"Just why are you in here again?"

"So you are here to deliver something. Called that one." he lifted his boots off the desk and planted them on the ground, rising to do a full body stretch.
"I have a professional issue that needs to be discussed. If it was something that could be discussed elsewhere, I'd likely go hunt the infuriating woman down. But it's not a matter for a public forum."
He stopped stretching. "Now, if the cats done being curious, scamper off."

S'Ress hakes her head as she regards him.
"You do realize this genius..." She smirks at him. "That the OPS Boss is off watch. Right?"
A dry chuckle of a purr. "Which means she is unlikely to return here...just before watch?"
"Well I am sure you have got this all figured out..." She turned and headed out, from over her shoulder.
"Right?"
With that the doors close leaving him alone in the office.

Seb sits back down, kicking his boots back up on the desk.
"It's not like I've anything else to do..." he mutters as he examines his left arm. He glowered a bit. "And she's gotta come in sometime. She is not squeaking herself out of this."

Decia returned from her foray into the bowels of the engineering deck with renewed energy, despite the stiffness and soreness she felt in her abdomen. She was humming a pleasant song from her homeworld. She enteres her office and smirks as she sees who awaits her behind her desk even before the door closes behind her.
"Are you not supposed to be resting?" She said to him as she moved over to scoop her PADD from her desktop.
"I do believe the doctor was quite clear on this point."

The Trill opens his eyes and stretched a little before before displaying himself with an arm motion. "I believe this position is called "Reclining". It falls under the "resting" category. Besides..." he removed his feet from her desk and stood up. "The good doctor said I just needed to give the arm a couple days of light use." He cocked an eyebrow. "She didn't really define what exactly that was though."
He almost gave a small smile before the motion disappeared as quickly as it appeared. "We have to talk about the last operation."

Decia blinked some at his stretch letting her gaze linger upon his display a moment before dropping her eyes right to her PADD. " Um..yes....we....fair point you have there....indeed." She swallows some, her voice soft and shy as she really focuses on her PADD. A slight blush flows into her cheeks as he goes on.
She drew a deep breath to collect herself and nodded her eyes returning to his as she hugged her PADD to her chest.
"Indeed we do..." She shook her head, her emerald gaze piercing into his now. "Your pride almost crippled you down there Sebetheran."
"What were you thinking trying to take on such an opponent all by yourself?"

He was taken aback for a second. "MY pride? I wasn't the one who beamed down a child and a rookie cadet into a field of killer insects. What the hell were you thinking?"
He cracked his neck a little, uncomfortable. "That had all the makings of something going terribly wrong. I didn't have a plan for being surrounded by a bunch of blood sucking crab things. It was pure luck we got through that slog. However..."
He stared a piercing stare at her. "You were there. You shouldn't have been there. Neither should Vyhr and that horny girl. Stop looking for fights, that's not your job. Your job is to lead."
Seb looked away slightly. "And I'm not going to thank you for interfering with that fight against that asshole. I'm sure you'd be unappreciative if someone interfered with your own single combat.. and my decision might seem foolish to you, but nearly everyone was wounded and we don't know the full extent of what we were dealing with. However, by tricking him into playing down his abilities.. I gave sense of toying with me -- a mistake he will not repeat." He held up his arm. "Had I lost this, it still would have been a good trade for the outcome. However, I made the mistake of letting him live. I've a feeling I'm going to regret that."

Decia's eyes widen a moment and she sets her jaw meeting his piercing gaze with one of her own. "I was there because I was doing my job. I was sent down there under orders Sebetheran, for neither is K'Rika helpless nor is she a child. I know you saw, heard and felt what she was able to do to those creatures we fought." She drew a breath and continued. "The commander knew this as well, we all have sensed the girl's abilities and have known for some time she is tied to if not a part of our enemies past...or did you miss the whole issue with who and what K'Rika truly might be during our diplomatic mission to the new Travynai homeworld?"
"Also need I point out, that both she and our new Cadet performed admirably under fire and both saved a lot of lives on the away team down there." She continued to keep her gaze on him. "My job is to also follow orders and protect what turned out to be a much needed battlefield asset. I lead from the forefront as I should...I like Delta stand between our foes and those who can not fight for themselves. It is what I do Sebetharen, it is what I was born to do..."
She sighed some her tone softer for him at this part. "It is who I am..."
Decia canted her head some and scowled some at his opening comment and did manage to let him finish before she responded.
"First...no why would you thank me, I only saved your life." She set her jaw some more and kept her gaze right on his.
"Your logic and tactics are flawed some, and we both know you know this." She shook her head. "Make no mistake we Magna Romans have a history of honor on the battlefield, but we are neither Klingons, nor Samurai of the old Earth Bushido code. Nor are we Andorians with a strict system of honor codes for dueling. Your opponent clearly had little such tradition either, and he clearly demonstrated this in your fight with him."
"This was an open battlefield Sebetharen, not some...some...some.." She scowled searching for the right words and failing that slips out .."Circulum aequalem ...he outmatched you in stamina and combative abilities. You were wounded and battle pressed...he was virtually untouched by his battle with the away team proper and in a suit of powered armor!"
She takes a step closer to poke him in the chest. "Not to mention I was there uninjured and it was a foe we both should've taken on and put down /together/ but no you had to be a...a...Pertinax voluntarium cum stulto gloria!"
"If we had faced him together perhaps he would not have escaped...which he only did so because of the nature of the fight he was granted by you...and by me allowing you to do so."
"We are both responsible now for him still posing a future threat..."

Seb responds by poking her back in the sternum. Hard.
"K'rika is a non-combatant. I don't care what her abilities are, she has no business being in a combat zone, and your job is to make sure she remains safe, not put her in the middle of an active battlefield. It's irresponsible and against regulations. If you want that to change, you know where to send her. Right now she's a civilian, and as such you know what the regulations are on civilians and combat, I don't care what the Commander wants."
He sighs sharply. "Look, I know exactly how you feel, but you don't get promotions and position by your combat ability. It's how you lead others, and the higher you go the less front line work you're going to see. I, on the other hand, am right where I want to be. When the big call for "Charge" comes, they mean me. They don't mean "Adryan, oversee the charge". That's your job. You need to learn the difference. Leading from the front is an excellent way to lead, but you also need to step back, evaluate and maneuver your people. That is the position you have, and I expect you to start doing it better."
He brings a bent finger to his lips as he considers another thought. "The more I think it over, the less I agree with you on how I handled that black bastard. As I mentioned, we didn't know what he was capable of and I fooled him into playing down and making the mistake of playing games. In him focusing on me, others were kept clear of being further injured, or worse, and you aren't to blame for his escape, that lies primarily on me. I do, however, blame you for my hesitation in killing him." He holds up a hand to stop any attempt at protest. "And I will explain. Every time I make a decision to terminate an enemy you are there, constantly stopping me. More intense than the pain in my arm was the sensation of the shackles of previous words. It's the only reason I didn't end him there, and had this been a year ago he'd be sans head and out of our lives."

Decia doesn't even flinch a she returns his poke as she reiterates. "It was an unusual situation that required out of the box thinking. She was a non-combatant by regulation only...she just showed she is more than capable in beadling those things than WE are." She shook her head. "I do not need to learn how to lead better on the battlefield Sebetharen, I have long ago since proved I know how to lead and to inspire...I made a call much like the commander did...and it was the right call in the end."
"A good leader looks at the field of battle and utilizes all of the tools at their disposal and trusts those they go into battle, relying on their knowledge and experience....Commander Shantal and K'Rika have demostrated time and again they were heavily experienced in dealing with our adversaries...so when she made the call...I backed her decision."
"That is also my job as you just pointed out." Decia she shook her head. "Also had you been looking at the entire battlefield, you might have noted there was /no/ in the rear...there was no shelter we were under attack utterly and completely on all fronts. It mattered not in either situation, I was in battle aboard ship or down here....as was K'Rika..."
She her head at his lead in comment. "Of course you do..."
She starts to protest and stops when he raises his hand clearly unhappy with his 'assessment' of the battle with Obsidian. Her eyes brows shoot straight up at his follow up.
"Are you utterly insane?" She shakes her head. "First off...are seriously now telling me that he escaped due to the moral 'shackles' I've placed on you? Because i've made it less simple by seeing justice has a chance over your easy vengeance...a quick disposal as if Sentient life was a piece of trash to crush and remove so it does not irritate you any longer..." She shakes her head once more. "That kind of thinking is also not within regulations, the very regulations you just threw in my face over the use of non-combatants. That Sebetheran is a very over simplistic and dangerous way to look at the real world. Easy is not always the correct way. It is the hard that makes what we do worthwhile."
"Also you are forgetting...had I not been leading from the frontlines...had it been a year ago and i behaved as you envision a better leader on the battlefield, seen through the eyes of Sebetheran Adryan...." She leans in closer her eyes fixed on his.
"It would be YOU that would be without a head...and our dear friend Obsidian would have then turned on what remained of your team AND the Away team survivors." She sighed a long suffering sigh. "Miss Stingray and Elusive would not have had the time to lock up his armor ... he would have killed you and moved on to your team and them."
"Or laughed as the horde of those beasts that K'Rika had not been there to hold up long enough for Miss Dawkins to destroy, would've finished off team one and the away team."

Seb clenched his fist and tensed his arm as if he was about to throw a punch. "K'Rika isn't just a damned asset to be used as necessary. She's a person, and a civilian to boot. It doesn't matter if she's useful. We also have a responsibility to see that Vyhr actually makes it to graduation. It was still much safer on the ship than on the planet, and you damn well know it."
He pauses a second and relaxes his hand. "And you're right. Things could have gone worse, we might have been swarmed, I might be without a head though I argue with you that it would still be very much attached regardless, we can speculate all day. I could counter and say that it's possible none of those things you mentioned might have worked, the girls ability could have been ineffective, or you intercepting allegedly a blow, or we could have simply collapsed on the push to cover and been slaughtered." He laughed a little. "By rights we should have, that was pure luck we made it through because that was the best order I could give, and the worst one I ever did give."
He regains his composure. "We clearly see different battlefields, and you clearly don't understand my intentions. I'm willing to lay down my life, and end others, so that the rest of you can continue yours. Don't ask a child to do the same. Leave K'rika off the battlefield. It'll just make it that much harder to operate if we offer her on a plate to those that want her, alright? The rest of my thoughts don't have a place in professional discussion."

Decia never backs down, even seems at peace if he is to launch a blow. As if this were a natural state for her and she was merely ready to deal with it. "You misunderstand....again!"
"She was a person under fire and has the very right to defend herself...she volunteered her services to the Commander after the very first attack...that makes her a part of the fight" Decia shakes her head. "She had just as much as a stake in this as we did...and do not dare again act like I would just use her or anyone as some form of tool or weapon Sebetheran you know better than this. "
She scowls "Do? Force Ten Ion storms? Almost a hundred wounded casualties, a dozen killed in action? Every man and woman on the ship engaged in multiple firefights or hand to hand...a hull breach or just one core breath and she is what? In an escape pod to be taken again? or worse killed by the vacuum of space...on a planet her chances of survival increase exponentially. This you should know."
She still holds her ground.
"I am not speculating...had I not been there you would have had that thick head of yours blown off Sebetheran!" She shudders some at this thought, though her eyes drill into his, they are now glossy. "There is no debate on that...you lost that battle with him." She shakes her head at this. "Somehow that part is not getting through to you!"
"As for K'rika's abilities...she proved they were effective in the first battle with those things on the Sentinel. Do you truly believe that the commander or /I/ would've had her fight if they were not?" She sighs once more "Sebetharen....you are not seeing this entirety of the situation we just faced...we were not fighting a singular enemy...I do not think we ever have been."
Decia her look softens some "Sebetharen...K'rika is no child. I can see in her what she is...what she was bred for. It is not hard for me to recognize such. Did you never once read up on the logs concerning her when she was found...what Shantal,Xem, Billie Jo and Werner learned about her? What she truly is....what an archon is to the Travynei of her time?"
"Had this been any other battle... she would be safe and sound with her guardian where she belongs. I do very much understand this."
"However this was a unique battle..." She drew another breath. "I want to say one more thing as well. All of us in Delta...live for others...S'ress, her team...you and yours...all are willing to do the same...even if some will never openly admit this...like Grant for one."
"Your view on this is not unique to us all...it is why we wear the green band." Her tone softens some now...
"My base purpose is to see that in battle is the same. My life is for those we fight to protect. That also includes you...and our teams...it is who we are Sebetheran."
She sets her PADD down on the desk and closes her eyes a moment to collect herself.
"Yes..I too have such things I wish to discuss outside of our duties..."

The Trill bit his cheek for a second. "I did read the reports. But there are other factors to consider. And it sounds like we won't come to an accord on this, as we see the field very differently. Not in this room, at any rate."

Decia just /blinked/ at this and then closed her eyes tightly. She stepped back some from her desk and then opened her eyes as she snarled out an exasperated breath. She flung her arms upwards as she looked to the ceiling and pleaded.
"Per Filium!" She slipped into the tongue of her world. "Per Filium!"
She leveled a frustrated and fixed gaze at him her tone now held soft marvel at him as she accused. "Assumptio! Assumptio! Assumptio! Semper est!!"
She shook her head and pointed at him. "Semper est!"
After a moment she looked to the ceiling. "Obstinata muro latericio amo! Qui est cor meum!"
She looked down to the floor with her hands curling into tight fists as she drew measured breathes to calm herself some. "We only differ on K'Rika, to a small degree....and the intelligence of getting one's head blown off...
"...you know as to why such an occurrence is of course a bad thing!"
