Earth Space Dock
I had forgotten how spartan the temporary quarters at this Space Dock were. A lot less room than on the Brooklyn, but I suppose that's to be expected. And it's only temporary.
It surprised me that both Captain Vincent and Commander Riley were there waiting for me at the transporter room when I left the Brooklyn for the last time. The Commander wishedme luck in my new assignment, while the Captain in his usual gruff tone said he hoped that I'd succeed in my new assignment enough to make the work I was giving him in finding a new helmsman worth the trouble.
I'm not sure if that was an attempt at humor or not, humans can be confusing with that sort of thing after all, though if it was humor I'm suitably horrified by the implications.
I just put my gear into a small storage locker in my Temp Quarters and went for a run around the outer ring of the Space Dock. Not to easy with all the people everywhere but I managed. The Holodeck would have been better so I could at least run through the Southern Plains, but they always seem to be reserved for various things here.
It gave me time to consider what I was going to send back home. M'rek already knows about my re-assignment to the Odyssey, before I did in fact some how, but after looking through what I could find in the database about the ship it left me with a quandry on how and what to send home.
Not sure I want to let mother know that the Odyssey is a medical ship and either get her hopes up that I've changed vocations, or have to hear yet again how Tactical isn't the proper assignment for one of our people.
*Audible growl*
I have no problems with the scientific or medical fields as most Cait seem to slip into, I even see the need and gravity of such fields. They just aren't for me. I have no talent for that sort of thing and I truly fail to see all the excitement about a new particle that you can't even see without a special microscope and sensor set up.
Maybe I'll try to convince M'rek to do the work for me. *Laugh* Even if he would just growl at me for even suggesting it.
Well, no sense putting it off I suppose. . . but then again I haven't eaten yet today...
