Just got an email that Q1 Champs online will be free to play. Would be shocked if by this time next year STO will be the same.

So are we up to playing superheroes? Can not stand Champs to be honest, tried twice and both times as not captivated about it. Do have a CoH toon though.

I was thinking about this and all though it wouldn't surprise me much, I don't think it will have that big an impact from what I've read over at the CO FAQ. As a lifetime subber here life will just be the same for me...log in when I want and buy the new shiny at the C-Store when money permits. Doesnt really seems so scary , prolly just means more griefers but by then we should have our fleet bases (crosses fingers)

Not sure if STO will move to the free-to-play market but there has been a strong swing in that direction among MMOs (D&D Online, Lord of the Rings and now Champions Online). I hold a lifetime subscription to both CO and STO so is sort a 'meh' point to me.
My only concern with an MMO going free-to-play is all the potentional douches that might flock in and make ESD less RP friendly than it already is.

While it would be good for those who have 1 year subscriptions or less I think it would be a great idea. But for those of us who have a life time subcription...I see this as another way how cryptic is stabbing loyal customers in the back.
I mean they didn't even wait a year before they released a bunch of stuff that was exclusive for pre-orders to the general public. On SWG that would be unheard of, if you didn't get the pre-order or order certain things by a certain date...well good luck because you're not getting anything. Or in some cases it was 2 or 3 years before certain items was released to the general users.
If they do go "free to play" then cryptic should, and better, do something to compensate those who bought life time subscriptions. Don't expect Scott to disapear if it doesn't happen, but I will not be a happy camper if it doesn't.

feeling same as scott1 about this. they do have to bring some really exclusive things for lifetimers or FtP will be a major asskick for those who bought it.
