Star Date: 87827.79
Personnel: Lt Cmdr Laurel F. Orkney
Location: USS Varina
Title of Log: Vacation Ho!
So one small mission and then I'm off with Nyoko for fun in the sand and sun. It'll be nice to be back on Earth. Nyoko has found us an awesome place to stay. I can't wait.
I received through channels an offer for Lt. Takerra to return to the Academy and take up a teaching position in tactical ground combat study. It seems that her reputation is starting to get out.
I of course endorsed the recommendation and passed it on to Takerra for her to either accept or reject.
I knew the minute I saw it, she would say no. And I was not disapointed.
Despite our initial antagonism, I've grown very fond of my first officer and I know how she thinks. She would never be kin to the notion of sitting around telling folks how to do something, when she herself is more then capable of going out and doing that very same thing. In plain speak, until she's wounded beyond reason she will keep doing what she's doing. It's good for me and it's good for the service. In my humble opinion.
I feel very lucky to have her as a first officer and Lt. Zrohasa as a second officer. The two are quite opposite and the interaction works well to provide me with balanced options on both sides.
Takerra has quite an attitude and is bitter about her history. She's very aggresive. Zrohasa on the other hand is quite calculating, cautious and logical. And both feel free to express their opinions openly with me and each other. And they do both disagree. A lot.
I like that I do not have two "yes women". As I said, I like to have options.
P'Tal has been interacting with Daedelus Omega a bit too much for my liking. I have not forgotten how she messed with my mind and memories. HA! I have only remembered because she allowed me to. Sanctimonious pointy eared <inaudible>
Perhaps that's not fair. Part of my problem might be my human lack of understanding how the mind works.
I understand in detail the anatomy of a dozen species. But when it comes to the mental disciplines I am merely told it is beyond a non telepath to really understand how it all works. That's fine, I don't have to know how to assemble my command chair if you laid it out in front of me in pieces.
I have an engineer under my command to understand the nuances of its circuitry. That's not my job. My job is to know what do with it once it's assembled. And I would be very cross if an engineer from another ship came over and removed my cup holder without asking.
This sad analogy is what I feel she's done to me. However pure he motives, she should not have come over to my "command chair", decided that I didn't need the "cup holder" and removed it without asking. The fact she restored it later only makes the whole situation a little better.
I know P'Tal is not evil. And perhaps we can be friends one day. But right now it reminds me of the whole Bo'Colum incident. Something I'd rather forget, thank you.
Telepathy is a very powerful tool and really shouldn't be abused.
Telepath's should walk Xoeni's path. Asking permission and not being invasive. Speaking of which, I have not heard tell of what's become of her. I pray she is safe and is found quickly. I'll have to make a point of asking Durmas what his investigations have uncovered.
Well I guess that's all for now. I hope to be packed soon and perhaps do a little shopping with Nyoko before heading off to deliver those supplies for Admiral Sadi.
And perhaps we can grab supper while we are out.
I'll just make sure to order my meal separately.
I need to make sure it's all been actually cooked.
