Fleet Daedalus Omega
Application
Introduction
Fleet Daedalus Omega provides compatibility in role-play through a system of rules which are adhered to by all who hold forum membership. By doing this, players may come to share that same standard and have the same expectation from one another. We feature normal, sub-heroic characters as Captains facing the daily mission challenges of getting their crew through safely and pursuing a career in Starfleet. Daedalus its self is a small task force focused around the story of couple different class starships conducting the expectation of any officer of the Federation Fleet.
Requirements: Interest in Role Playing, Game Master Authority, and Cooperation to all regulations set forth to enhance the quality of role playing.
Instructions
Do not post to this thread. Make a new thread titled Transfer Request: Your Character's Name. Then recopy each field below the line and add your answer in complete sentences after each question. Once completed, expect anywhere from two to three days to hear a back. A reply will be posted to this thread by a Fleet Executive with further instructions.
Section 01 – Out Of Character:
(All these questions are to be answered as the player)
Part A: Player Specific Questions
1.) What is your user handle (ex: Nyoko@GolbezLunar)?
@archonpook
2.) What time zone are you in?
Pacific, aka Western US.
3.) How many hours do you play a week?
Varies depending on real world events. Anywhere from a couple hours a week to hours on end a day. But on average I'd say at least a few hours most days.
4.) What are your typical play times; (Days and Times)?
Again, it varies based on real world events. My weekends are Mondays and Tuesdays, though on at least one of those days a week I usually GM a tabletop rp session for my rl friends. Apart from that it's anytime morning, afternoon, or evening. Sometimes I'll be on all day and night playing with breaks only to grab a nosh.
5.) What is your age?
Currently 31, though that is subject to change.
6.) Are you a boy or girl?
I have all the boy parts, though I have been accused of thinking like a girl from time to time. Despite that, however, I think I'll stick with male as my answer. Seeing as that's what's on my birth certificate and it's what all my family, friends, coworkers, and online acquaintances know me as.
7.) Are you an active forum user? (Highly Recommend that you are.)
To be honest the wife usually has to remind me to check in with the forums. It's not that I have anything against them, I just get a bit absent minded about them. But so long as I remember to check in I've got no problem using them icly or oocly as the situation warrants.
8.) Do you like to write Stories, Log Entries or Design LCARs jpegs?
I'm currently in the process of a serious attempt to change my current profession to fantasy novelist. So... Yes, I suppose you could say that I do enjoy writing stories.
9.) Are you willing to work with Game Masters as an authority over storylines?
I've spent enough time as a GM myself to understand the difficulties in running a session. If I can help in any way, even just by cooperating to the best of my ability, I will.
10.) Are you subscribed to the Daedalus OOC Channel?
Not yet, but that can be changed easily enough.
11.) What kind of subscription do you currently have? (Optional)
Not sure I follow the question. Do you mean between month to month, lifetime subscription, or somewhere in-between? Let's just say I'm still making payments.
12.) How did you hear about us?
The missus has been doing research to find a decent roleplay oriented fleet for the both of us to join. Your group looks promising.
13.) Are you willing and able to put our guilds information in your Character Bio?
Certainly, insofar as it would make sense to have such information in Starfleet records.
14.) Do you understand the Activity Policy?
I understand the policy and will do my best to fulfill my responsibility to that end. If there are concerns or issues on my part which would affect my ability to meet these standards I will make every effort to speak to someone about them.
15.) What is the best way to contact you?
In-game tells would be good, or in-game e-mail. Heck, even out of game e-mail, though I'd really prefer an in-game tell.
Part B: Role Playing Experience Questions
1.) What does the Term "IC-OOC Separation” mean to you?
What happens IC stays IC. What happens OOC stays OOC. The two do not overlap. I do not take ic occurrences personally and I do not retaliate icly to ooc provocation. Crossing that line would be much like Captain Kirk showing up at the Roddenberry residence looking for revenge when Spock passed away in The Wrath of Kahn.
2.) What is the difference between the term Player and Character?
The player is the actual real world person of flesh and blood that interfaces with the STO world via a keyboard and mouse (or some similarly compatible proxy). The character is that person's fictional creation existing only within their mind, the minds of those they interact while play acting as that character, and the digital world in which the fictional character exists.
3.) What is Meta-gaming?
Should a player possess knowledge of situations and events which their character would have no reasonable means of possessing, and then allow roleplay to commence as though their character were in fact in possession of such knowledge. In short, using ooc information for ic purposes.
4.) What are Action Brackets? (:: :: | - - |* *| )
In any given post there is often the need for both a description of the environment or character nuances such as facial features, gestures, or manner of speaking. There is also often (though not always) the need for a character to impart spoken (Or in some cases telepathic) communication. This is true in face to face meetings, comm talk, or written messages. The Action Brackets are used to separate verbal or written messages from these descriptions, allowing more depth to posts than merely one dimensional texting.
5.) How long have you been playing Star Trek Online?
A couple months now I believe. I'm afraid I wasn't really paying attention to the date when I initially signed up, though I could possibly go back through my financial records to find out if it's really important.
6.) How long have you role played in general?
Since I was a wee lad, perhaps seven or eight. Younger if you include make-believe with my friends. My first actual structured roleplay experience was with my brother and his friends using first edition D&D.
7.) What was your last role playing experience?
Though it may change before this is posted, my wife and I often roleplay together with our mains in STO. And of course we are involved in several different tabletop pen and paper rpg's.
8.) What are your expectations of this fleet?'
I expect fun and engaging roleplay in a friendly and good humored group of people who are capable of having fun without it being at another's expense.
9.) What will you bring to this fleet?
Creativity and a positive attitude.
10.) How do you feel about PVP?
It's fine for those that desire it. Personally I prefer to work cooperatively rather than confrontationally in roleplay. After all, npc combatants exist for a reason.
11.) What difficulty do you typically play Star Trek Online on?
My wife and I leveled our mains to Admiral Lower half on Elite. As our personal lives grew more hectic we scaled the difficulty back to normal for a more relaxing play style. Once things settle down (which they have been, thankfully) we will more than likely return to the Elite setting.
12.) Do you understand that all role playing is conducted locally?
I'm afraid that doesn't appear to be the case from what I've read in your guidebook. While all local chat is specified as being entirely ic, there are also the options of shipboard communications, ic message board posts, and many other mediums which are also considered ic. While local roleplay is certainly strongly encouraged (and enjoyable) it isn't the only available roleplay option.
13.) Do you know how to roll dice on Star Trek Online? (If so what is the command?)
I used to know it, back when I was on Champions Online, but for the life of me I can't remember now.
14.) Do you have experience with Star Trek Role Play?
Of course I've loved the shows since I first saw Spock high on spores beating the snot out of Kirk, but in addition to simply viewing I've also played in a chat based roleplay and even ran an event which I think would have been much more successful of it weren't for the fact that three of my four players fell into a very destructive love triangle and failed to keep ic and ooc separate. Still, we live and learn.
15.) Do you have alts in other fleets? (If so which fleet are we sharing you with?)
My main is Leod Tepash, however for various reasons he wouldn't fit the requirements of your fleet. He is not, however, in another fleet. Leod has an established story which ties him to his own ship as an admiral, and he is a telepath, both of which make him difficult to fit into your Fleet and so I'll be rolling an alt specifically for the purpose of joining your Fleet as a rank 1 character.
Section 02 – OOC Character Inquiry:
(All these questions are to be answered as player about the character you wish to play. It is best that you review daedalusomega.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rphandbook before answering.)
Part A: Character Request
1.) Character name?
Gleetok Trebor
2.) Character gender?
Male
3.) Character race?
Swimpoilian
4.) Is your character a telepath? (Alien telepath characters are subjected by GM approval)
Telepathic: No. Telekinetic: Limited.
5.) Character class?
Science Officer.
6.) Character STO level?
Will be rolled up at level 1 and advance through the tutorial before joining.
7.) Select an fleet entry level rank. (Ensign, Jr Lieutenant, Lieutenant)
Ensign.
8.) What is your basic character concept & history?
Gleetok Trebor comes from a small swamp planet in the Gamma Quadrant and is a part of a minor empire known as the Swimpoilian Bureaucracy. The Swimpoilians themselves are pacifists believing there is always a peaceful solution to any scenario and will use non-lethal methods only for self defense. Their planetary defense grid is actually a series of powerful teleporters which relocate invading hostile contacts outside their system. Gleetok himself left his home world to study and catalog the various races within the Federation and to determine if the Swimpoilians would be right for the membership within the Federation. Needless to say Gleetok's admission to Starfleet is being used in turn as a means of determining if the Swimpoilians are right for the Federation as well.
9.) What kind of commission does your character have? (Enlisted, Petty Officer, or Officer)
Starfleet academy graduate: Officer status: Ensign
10.) Desired ship type of ship you'll be wish to be assigned too? (Tactical, Science, or Cruiser).
Science for preference, though a cruiser would be acceptable. Gleetok would not refuse a posting on a tactical ship, however it would lead to repeated exposure to moral dilemmas on his part.
11.) Please give a little background about this character.
Gleetok was the equivalent of an accountant on his home world, dabbling in science in his spare time. After his life mate left him for an alien from outside the Bureaucracy he found himself in need of a fresh start and requested to be reassigned to the Swimpoilian Diplomatic Corp. It was at that time he was sent to Federation space to learn of these new potential brothers among the stars.
12.) Please describe what Merit System is.
The Merit System is a means of tracking the contributions (or detrimental impact) of a Fleet member on the Fleet as a whole. By successfully accomplishing taskings and assignments an individual earns themselves merit points. The accumulation of these points earns recognition and promotion within the Fleet. Accordingly demerits detract from these points, though simply failing to complete an assignment will not earn a demotion. Demotion is earned through negative behavior rather than simply failing to succeed.
13.) Has this character been enrolled in a fleet prior?
Negative.
14.) What are your aspirations for this character? Casual RP (I am just here to RP) or Competitive (I want to be an Admiral some day!)
Aspirations are a difficult thing to assess on a new character. The story typically evolves on its own. Becoming an Admiral is a possibility for Gleetok, but not necessary. Really, it all depends.
15.) What are strengths, weakness, and flaws in this character’s personality?
Gleetok is a kind and friendly individual, always willing to lend a hand. His aversion to violence leaves him at a loss from time to time as to how he should deal with life in the Federation. Then of course there's also his love of bureaucratic red tape. If there's one thing Swimpoilians love, it's filling out forms.
Section 03 – IC Character’s Personnel Recorded:
(This section must be filled out and will serve as your official personnel Starfleet Record for this character as you play in our fleet. This is the section where you can become creative and illustrate to us the character you want to play in our RP Community. Be as detailed as you can with the character's past service. BE ADVISED: In-Characterly, Fleet Command has access to all your character's files... nothing is **Classified** to them.)
STARFLEET PERSONNEL FILE: Trebor, Gleetok
Rank: Ensign
Last recorded assignment: Transfer from Starfleet Academy to the science vessel Mekenika. Currently due for reassignment.
Full Name: Gleetok Trebor
Species: Swimpoilian
Time of birth: Terran year 2113
Place of birth: Lop'ok Schmir'lop spawning enclave, Swimpoil Prime.
Education: Starfleet Academy, Earth 2404-2408
Marital status: Divorced
Children: NumerousAcademy Scores;
Science: 100% (Instructor note: Student has a firm grasp on science and a strong desire to explore the unknown. However he seems to have a few blind spots when it comes to the potential tactical possibilities of some phenomenon.)Engineering: 95%Tactics: 65% (Instructor note: It took an exceptionally long time to instruct this student, and even upon receiving a barely passing score I am still unconvinced he grasps the finer points of even the basics.)Psychology: 70% (Instructor note: Basic motivational factors of many races still seem to elude Gleetok, despite several dozen hours spent personally tutoring him.)Logic: 100% (Instructor note: It was a pleasure to finally have a student with an emotional investment in logic! Gleetok was a pleasure to instruct and I look forward to hearing great things about his career!)Critical Thinking: 73% (Instructor note: Student has a tendency to fall back on familiar and ordered procedure rather than use creativity, imagination, and originality to solve problems. It is with some relief that I should not expect to hear “But that is how it is always done” repeated multiple times throughout the day.)
Athletics: 86% (Instructor note: While not the most dexterous or muscular of students, I cannot deny Gleetok’s enthusiasm. This is particularly evident when it came to water based training. Still, it was a pleasure to instruct this student.)
Biology: 78% (Instructor note: Gleetok has a firm grasp on the scientific method, but was uncomfortable working with cadavers and absolutely refused to dissect live specimens. The frog incident will haunt me to the end of my days I am certain.)
Psychological Profile: Gleetok Trebor has a pleasant and outgoing personality combined with a desire to learn. While discussions relating to his offspring evoke a deep sense of adoration and pride, he seems reluctant to speak of his former life mate and I suspect there is a deep pain and possible feeling of resentment hidden deep within him. I have encouraged Gleetok to continue seeking counseling regarding this matter in the hopes he will one day open up and face whatever pain he is hiding. Apart from this minor concern I feel Gleetok is mentally sound and ready for duty.
Medical Record:
Gleetok Trebor is in excellent health. For a member of an amphibious race he is doing remarkably well adapting to the environmental needs of his fellow officers. A singular oddity is his need for augmented legs to move around on dry land. Possessing flippers rather than feet he has made use of a pair of mechanical legs into which his lower extremities fit quite comfortably. Additionally this allows him to simulate the movement of the more humanoid lifeforms in Starfleet and avoid the odd looks he thinks he would get “hopping around the place.” The only drawback to this particular augmentation is his requirement to be serviced by a Starfleet engineer for regular maintenance. He has expressed an easy going manner regarding this seeing as his use of an optical visor to assist in vision correction also requires such regular maintenance. The visor it seems works with his various sensory apparatus allowing him to see and hear in the same manner as other humanoids. It is refreshing to see he does not expect special treatment for his specific needs and is willing to make the necessary concessions on his own. At this time I am pleased to declare Ensign Gleetok Trebor ready for duty.
Additional Notes:
Captain Kinegan; November 23, 2408 (Stardate 462394.6):
Ensign Trebor’s performance on the away mission to Ceti Nebulai XIII in the Delta Volanis Cluster. When we encountered a series of strange pod-like growths arising on our equipment it was Ensign Trebor’s quick thinking that determined these pods were the young of the local indigenous inhabitants. Obeying the Prime Directive we immediately departed the planet upon realizing the local fungi was sentient, though primitive and far from achieving warp technology. Ensign Trebor pioneered the method used to safely remove the pods from our equipment and return them to their natural habitat unharmed.
Instructor Leanas; July 14, 2408 (Stardate 462037.9):
It is my pleasure to announce Gleetok Trebor has graduated Starfleet Academy and award him the rank of Ensign. I am sure his career will be eventful and I will follow it with much interest.
Instructor Leanas; October 07, 2405 (Stardate 459270.5):
Following what is now referred to as the “Frog Incident”, Gleetok has been duly reprimanded and instructed to conform himself in a dignified manner in all situations. His expressed remorse for his behavior appears genuine and I have decided to show lenience. There will be no further action taken against him regarding this matter.
Instructor Leanas; March 22, 2404 (Stardate 457725.9):
Gleetok Trebor is the first student I have ever known to complete his registration forms in record time only to ask for the rest of the forms. When he learned there were no further forms to fill out he insisted on his forms being returned to him. They were again returned two weeks late with three hundred and seventeen addendums added to the docket. He was duly reprimanded.
