Detailed History:
Nathan Marshall Sheridan IV was born on July 4, 2376 in Louisville, Kentucky, North America, Earth. He is the elder of identical twins, and is the second oldest of the five children of Vice Admiral Nathan Marshall Sheridan III and Louisa Catherine Sheridan. Nate has one older sister, Catherine Lynn, one younger twin brother, Ethan Montgomery, one younger brother, Hunter Jefferson, and one younger sister, Cassidy Brooke.
Nathan was brought up in the ways of the “Southern Gentleman,” and wears the description with great pride. He has a very laid-back demeanor and is extremely polite. He will always try to assist a lady when she is in need (opening manually-operated doors, carrying heavy packages, helping with coats, pulling out chairs, and so forth).
The Sheridan family can trace itself back to the Antebellum Period of Kentucky, during which time, the family was heavily involved in the abolitionist movement. After the war, Tobias Caleb Sheridan started a small bourbon distillery. The business grew quickly, and – with the exception of the Prohibition period – has continuously produced quality Sheridan Select brand bourbon up to the current day. The distillery is currently managed by Nate’s twin brother Ethan.
During Prohibition, the family needed to find other means of income and decided to invest in an equestrian center, eventually buying it outright. Since the early 20th Century, the Sheridan Farms Equestrian Center has trained dozens of Triple Crown-contending thoroughbreds, including two winners – Able Seaman (2197) and Wild Willy (2243). Sheridan Farms is currently managed by Nate’s older sister, Catherine, where her husband Matthew is a trainer and daughter Cody is a jockey.
Although Nate enjoyed riding horses, he had no interest in running a business, therefore those duties fell upon his siblings. Nate’s interests were always of a more “martial” nature. While growing up, he would often go hunting with his father, grandfather and great grandfather, and became quite a skilled marksman. After graduating from high school, he joined the Kentucky State Guard. His skills with a rifle, as well as his hand-to-hand self-defense abilities (thanks to growing up with 4 siblings), were noticed by his superiors, and he was assigned to train with the Israeli Defense Forces. During his time with the IDF, he learned several martial arts techniques, including the Israeli self-defense martial art of Krav Maga.
While serving in the Kentucky State Guard, Nate kept tabs on the political situation between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. Not liking what he saw when the Klingons withdrew from the Khitomer accords, he felt that the political situation in the Alpha Quadrant was deteriorating and decided that he needed to do something to protect his family. When it became time to reenlist in 2399, he decided against it, and instead decided to seek a commission with Starfleet and enrolled in Starfleet Academy.
Nathan excelled during his time at the Academy. With the exception of a reprimand for pulling a practical joke on a professor with a few of his company mates during his freshman year, Nate had an exemplary record at the Academy and was awarded two commendations for his marksmanship skills and martial arts abilities. He became captain of the shooting team, and lead them to gold medals in his junior and senior years. Nathan graduated with honors, and was commissioned as an Ensign on May 23, 2403.
While on leave following graduation, Nate received orders to report to the USS Texas (NX-91211) during her overhaul at Earth Spacedock. He reported aboard on July 1, 2403, where he was assigned as a security officer. Nathan was irritated with his assignment at first (“Against what are we guarding while in Spacedock?”), but took the assignment in stride, figuring it was a good time to train and improve his skills. During the layover, Nate developed several close-quarters combat techniques that were quickly adopted by the entire security staff.
When the Texas relaunched after a 8-month refit, she was deployed in the Cardassian sector
