PART B - ROLE PLAY EXPERIENCE QUESTIONS
What does the term IC-OOC separation mean to you - IC means In Character, what your character says or does to a reaction either to an NPC or another Player Character. IE: ‘Early grinds her teeth at the Captains orders but moves to the Science console in silence’: or as the character reacts to another Character‘s statement or action.
OOC is Out Of Character - What I (as a person/player) gibbers about in Daedalus OOC or in a private tell. The information I know as a player is NOT known by my character. I may know the facts and background of another player’s character but my character is clueless.
What is the difference between the term Player and Character - Lengthy explanation follows;
As a Player - A woman who grew up in the Pacific Northwest, retired military of both Navy and Army. I know that when I log on to an MMO that I must conduct myself in a socially acceptable manner, even though I sometimes fail when I deal with MMO Muppets (idiots that belong on Judge Judy, not STO) and can eventually loose patience. I read message boards, technical manuals etc to be able to game in a more knowledgeable manner. But, just because I know something doesn’t mean my character has the same knowledge.
As a Character - A 22 year old woman who grew up on Gagarin IV (Unnatural Selection, TNG, EP 33, aired 1989) who is a Liberated Borg. The Character attempts to behave in a socially acceptable manner though sometimes fails when dealing with other’s who do not uphold the goals and expectations of Starfleet. Though this character is knowledgeable about her field, she in no way or form knows everything.
What is Meta-Gaming - This I’ll try to keep short. To me Meta-gaming is posting your character’s thoughts in LOCAL/ZONE so ALL players can see what that character thinks but are unable to react unless their character is telepathic. IE: ‘Smith thinks that Early is behaving like an idiot.‘ To me that is a passive-aggressive means of attacking another player’s gaming style. Meta-gaming is telling another player that your character did an action that affected their character and they have no recourse. Meta-gamers use whatever they know as a player and say their character knows it as well. IE: I’ve read the background of Captain Honda, know her strengths and weaknesses and use that in game as though my character knows it. In short a Meta-Gamer is Q and you, as a player, have no ability to save your character from their whims.
Once again, I can not stress enough that I do NOT tolerate people posting their character’s thoughts in Zone/Local. As I see that your Fleet has strict rules regarding telepaths, I’m sure you’ll understand what I mean. I swear, that will be the last time I harp on my pet peeve.
What are Action Brackets - It depends on what RP group you are with. Each group/game has different rules. IE: OOC: ’waves hi to all’. * could mean action or ** means the same. I’m sure this RP group has their own definition which I will learn quickly.
How long have you been playing Star Trek Online - Since closed Beta.
What was your last Role Play experience - Last week. I still run a D & D group in my house and we meet as often as possible. For Online it was also last week as I as finished out a few things in City of Heroes.
How long have you Role Played in general - Since the Gygax rules for Dungeons and Dragons. For over 30 years though I still consider myself as a beginner. Just because I’ve been RP’ing for years doesn’t mean I know anything. People always teach you something new.
What are your expectations of this Fleet - Few.. Aside from gamers who get along, are opened minded and enjoy each others company.
What will you bring to this Fleet - Time as I am retired and don’t believe in sleep. I also bring an open mind, willing to hear ideas to character development and plotlines and vast amounts of creativity that is only limited by players. I also bring understanding, not only on a character level but to a player level. I also bring a vast amount of military experience as they’re the ones who retired me. If anything it makes me organized beyond belief. I also bring a sense of humour, lack of ego and cookies.
How do you feel about PvP - If it has its place in a Daedalus Omega storyline, then I‘ll play along. Otherwise, I loathe it. I played Star Wars Online when being a Jedi was a death sentence against player Bounty Hunters. If you have any experience in that then you’ll understand I HATE PvP… unless the story demands. Plus I’m terrible at it.
What difficulty do you play Star Trek Online on typically - Normal. I find no reason to do otherwise unless it’s for an Accolade.
Do you understand that all Role-playing is conducted locally - Yes and I should hope so. Role-playing over comms just doesn’t work, in my very humble opinion.
Do you know how to role dice in Star Trek online - Not as of yet but I would be more than willing to learn.
Do you have Alts in other Fleets - No. I do have an alt Commander (which is actually the same person in Tactical and Medical; used for experimentation for powers.)
Section 2 - OOC Character Inquiry
Character Name - Innominata A’pi su-ahts -- Nameless Early Riser in a mix of Latin and Blackfoot Indian (Indigenous tribe from Montana, North America). She chose the name after leaving the Collective.
Character Gender - Female
Character Race - Liberated Borg, child of Gagarin IV
Is your character a telepath - In depth: The Children of Darwin (Unnatural Selection, TNG ep 33, Year 2365) are genetically advanced humans with highly aggressive immune systems (which was discovered after all the crew of the USS Lantree died due to advance aging, caused by the children‘s immune system) They also mature far faster than normal humans (the 12 year old beamed to the Enterprise appeared 18). The children were telekinetic and telepathic. For this character I designed her so that the Borg implants interfere with her telepathic and telekinetic abilities until character development and GM approval is granted.
Character Class - Science Officer
STO Level - Lieutenant. Character has only finished entry quest in Vega though has the Liberated and Immune titles.
Select a Fleet entry level - Ensign, lower class.
What is your basic character concept and history - Early (nickname) was one of the offspring from the genetically created children on the Darwin Genetic Research Station located on Gagarin IV. Since the children possessed such an aggressive immune system they were not able to be around normal humans. The scientists on the Darwin Station, including their ‘creator’ Dr. Sara Kingseley, continued to observed the ‘Children’ and their offspring until 2367 when a freak accident exposed them to the children’s immune system and, like the crew of the USS Lantree in 2365, died of old age. Unfortunately, Starfleet was currently fighting off the Borg which culminated in the battle of Wolf 359 in 2367, and the sphere attack in 2373. Due to this Starfleet lost contact with Gagarin IV. Early was born in the 2390’s, assimilated in 2409, released 2412. Her hyper-aggressive immune system has been brought to a tolerable level by 12 hourly injections of an immune-suppressant.
What kind of commission does your character have? - Field commission: Ensign (Be advised that Enlisted and Petty Officer are the same thing)
Desired ship to be assigned to? - Any that needs a Science/Medical officer.
Please give a little background about this character - ‘Early’ lived an ideal life on Gagarin IV. Though she appears in her early 20’s she is actually 16 years old. Darwin Children mature far faster physically, but emotionally she is young. Starfleet had lost contact with the Darwin Genetic Research Station in 2367 and the records lost in the Borg attack of 2373. Early was removed (along with her counterpart, Eight of Eight) from the Collective in 2412. Taken to the Daystrom Institute after her disabled cube was discovered by the U.S.S. Yakima, she has remained there for the past 9 months along with her counterpart, Eight of Eight. The problems with her immune system have been neutralised using a combination of medicines from both the Delta Quadrant and information taken from the defunct cube’s database. When linked to her Unimatrix, her telepathic abilities were an unknown quantity and not accounted for. She linked not only to the Unimatrix, but to Eight of Eight. Starfleet and the Daystrom Institute have been unable to sever that link and physical separation for more than 24 hours will cause the shutdown of the higher brain functions.
Please describe what the Merit system is - Much like how the US Army promotes enlisted personnel.
What are you aspirations for this character- That she contributes the Role-play of the rest of the Fleet in a positive manner.
Has this character enrolled in a Fleet prior to this? - No and neither has the player. I have been looking around the last few months for an RP group and Daedalus caught my eye.
What are the strengths, weaknesses or flaws in this character? - Strength: Early is highly adaptable in any situation. She can both heal and harm due to the modifications she’s made to her kits. She views all angles of a situation before choosing the appropriate action. Many see this as indecisiveness or laziness who do not know her.
Weakness: Early MUST have a hypo spray injection every 12 hours without fail. This substance is a super immune-suppressant much like steroids. If she does not have this injection her advanced immune system will begin to attack her own body. This is a Borg created reversal of the original genetic design.
Flaw: As one of the Darwin Children she was once part of an extremely strong family unit. Being part of the Collective was just a different form of the same sense of Unity she once had. She wants that so badly to have that again but distrusts people due to experiences after being removed from the Collective. So she appears to draw people in then reject them. She is often seen as arrogant and conceited when she is far from it. Her weakness is fear. She is so terrified of failing. Making a mistake in her orders, failing to assist in an away team, keeping her crew alive. She is also scared to death that Starfleet might blame the Children for the deaths of the research team if the truth comes out... along with her true age.
Section 3: Character’s Personnel Record:
Personnel File:
Name Innominata A’pi su-ahts translation: Nameless Early Riser
Alias Early
Date of Birth June 21, 2391
Place of Birth Gagarin IV. Contact with colony lost 2367, colony destroyed 2409.
Age: 22
Education: Records of Gagarin IV and Darwin Genetic Research Station destroyed in Borg attack, 2409. Testing conducted by Daystrom
Institute approximates 4th year Starfleet Academy equivalent.
Marital Status: Single
Children: N/A
Current Assignment:U.S.S. Yakima. Civilian under observation by Starfleet.
HISTORY:
2365: U.S.S. Enterprise-D arrives to the Darwin Genetic Research Station on Gagarin IV after discovering the U.S.S. Lantree disabled in space with the crew dead from advanced aging. Dr. Katherine Pulaski discovers that the hyper aggressive immune system of the children created by Dr. Sara Kingsley are responsible. Though Dr. Kingsley, Dr. Pulaski and the Darwin station researchers are all now infected with the same degenerative condition they are cured using the Enterprise transporters. Gagarin IV is now under permanent quarantine, monitored by the Darwin research station until further notice.
2367: The Borg attempt to attack the Sol system ending with the battle of Wolf 359. A malfunction on a stasis shield while the Darwin researchers were studying one of the children ended in the death of the entire research team, including Dr. Kingsley. Attempts were made to use the same transporter cure but it failed. The children attempt to contact Starfleet but are unanswered due to Wolf 359. Fearing the silence to mean that Starfleet blame them for the deaths of the research team and has cut off contact, the Children agree to become a independent society and leave the research area.
2397: Early is born to David and Mary, original children of the Darwin experiments.
2409: The Borg find the remains of the research station and assimilate it. Using the data found in the station’s computer, they attempt to assimilate the Darwin children. Initially they fail with the loss of an entire Cube. Use of the data compiled by the researchers and their own technology, the Borg subdue the children’s hyper aggressive immune system and appear to successfully assimilate them.
2412: A Borg Cube is discovered above the remains of Gagarin IV by Captain Qat’Anmek. The Cube is suffering from extensive internal and external damage and only two humanoids are found to be alive, one conscious and both behind a level 10 force field. The conscious female designates herself of Eight of Eight and demands Starfleet assistance for her unconscious companion which she does not name. She gives exact medical instructions. Once these instructions are carried out both are taken to the Daystrom Institute. The second female designates herself ‘Innominata’ and appears to form a close bond with Captain Qat’Anmek and Ensign Koja Nara.
2413: The two Borg found on the Gagarin IV cube are being both studied and educated into society. Eight of Eight and ‘Innominata’ have made little or no attempt to accept the education.
2413: Starfleet allow Eight of Eight and ‘Innominata’ (now designated Innominata A’pi su-ahts) to be sent back to the U.S.S. Yakima in the hopes that Captain Qat’Anmek can influence the two to accept re-education.
