Den'ya is a fully capable medical doctor, but lacks a certain understanding of the culture difference in lifeforms that make up the Federation. She puts a lot of pressure on herself to succeed, being the first of her race to join Starfleet, and second to leave her homeworld. Her race has an interesting spiritual and natural way of life, so adapting to protocols of Starfleet has been demanding.
SPECIES NOTATION:
The Vito subspecies of Dellensari live on a jungle like planet called Dellensari'vito. It is a part of a small system of three planets: Dellensari'vito, Dellensari'aphada and Dellensari'trici. All three planets are inhabited by communities of these species, and are very xenophobic, only trading between the three planets. These three planets were discovered near the Afehir Nebula, surrounding a star known as Veltesr. Starfleet had postponed First Contact, due to the xenophobic nature of this race and its proximity to Romulan space. However, after a fight with Romulans, the Dellensari put out a distress signal. As they had warp capability, but lacked weapons and other armaments, Starfleet was willing to respond. The Romulans wanted to steal some of their medicines, as they had cures for certain illnesses and diseases that were debilitating and sometimes deadly to their race. Unwilling to barter, the Romulans started attacking their cargo ships. The Dellensari finally agreed to somewhat shaky alliance at best with the Federation, on condition that there be no interference with the Dellensari's way of life. The Federation offered them ways to protect themselves, and the Dellensari reluctantly shared knowledge and cures for otherwise untreatable conditions. There was some civil unrest between the planets due to the decision of leaders from two out of the three planets, but a very charismatic leader convinced the Dellensari of the necessity of the alliance to keep the peace and tranquility of their day to day lives, and the need to defend their way of life if necessary. This leader, of Dellensa'vito, is Emissary now to Starfleet, known as Emissary Twil'neth Scl'atnofi, a spiritual leader among her people.
Dellensari are warm blooded, range from brownish to green skin, likely to better blend in with their environment. They have very acute senses, hearing and smell being the most prominent. They also show a certain physical resilience, and have a innate natural immunities compared to most races. They at times seem very instinctual, and are of the belief that every living thing has a soul, and should be treated as such.
