Reyes looked out through the transparent aluminum. Small service vessels slowly passed the starbase viewport in an unhurried dance. He shook his head slightly and muttered, "You know you're just asking to go back."
He thought he could hear their voices, but couldn't make out what was being said. Their tones were enough though. Reports being delivered in short slipped shouts. The underlying current of fear. The rumbling of deflectors straining under an enormous barrage of high energy beams. He shivered slightly and composed himself.
His finger activated the PADD's recording feature.
"Captain Santiago Reyes formally requesting transfer to fleet Daedalus Omega. I have line combat experience against the Borg in addition to first contact, exploration, and general experience as a command officer. I respectfully thank you for consideration."
He let out a deep breath that he hadn't realized he had been holding, "You've done it now, Santi."
He entered the last few commands needed to attach his Starfleet records to the request before sending the document. Santiago Reyes leaned back in his chair as his eyes returned to the peaceful scene of Earth orbit. He sat there well into the night...

Starfleet Document PF-45033 - Personnel File / Command Officer
NAME / RANK: Santiago Reyes / Captain
OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY: Engineering
SPECIAL TRAINING (IF APPLICABLE):
Advanced Warp Theory and Practice – Utopia Planetia
RACE: Human
PLACE OF BIRTH: Mars, Sol System
AGE: 35
CAREER HISTORY:
Santiago Reyes always displayed an affinity for devices and the theorry behind the application. He underwent the customary basic education while studying advanced coursework in his free time. Santiago joined Starfleet and specialized in engineering as way to utilize his talents and interests. After graduation, he was assigned to the Utopia Planetia shipyards where he rapidly advanced through the engineering design programs there.
After ten years of lab work and ship construction, Reyes suddenly applied for a posting to space. This came as quite a shock for those who knew him since he seemed perfectly content in the Advanced Warp Theory and Propulsions Lab. He had realized that he was holding himself back by limiting himself to labwork. The greatest innovative breakthroughs seemed to be coming from those in the field. These people had be creative in order to overcome obstacles and solve problems. They had no experimental safety net to fall back on and this, Santiago believes, pushes them beyond their perceived limitations. Santiago wanted to be a part of that. He wanted to be on the cutting edge of unorthodox application.
After much explanation to his superiors at Utopia Planetia, he was posted to the U.S.S. Antares. Over the next several years, Santiago worked hard to prove himself as a capable field officer and experienced Starfleet in a way he had never imagined. He felt the anxiety of danger and the unlnown during The Antares' posting to patrol the Tholian borders and found ways of tracking Tholian incursions by monitoring for miniscule subspace distortions created by the warp fields of the Tholian ships (he earned a commodation for this technique).
CURRENT ASSIGMENT:
Santiago Reyes is currently posted as Captain of the U.S.S. Icarus - Heavy Assault Cruiser.
Assignment Status - *most recent* Gamma Orionis Battle Group - Earned Starfleet recognition for actions during general retreat of battlegroup at the battle of Cestus. Ordered to return Icarus to Starbase 13 for refit of destroyed plasma relay systems, main computer, and extensive crew replacement due to combat casualties.
