Hurricane Irene is on its its way to Florida or near it. We could start feeling its effects thursday and possible all the way through saturday. Forcast track shows that it might just graze us, going more east, but could still come closer to florida itself. It's also predicted to become a Category 3 Hurricane by that time aswell.
As most of you know, I am Firefighter/Paramedic Lieutenant for Marion County Fire Rescue, here in central Florida. My responsabilities during and after this hurricane, may prevent me from going on the game at all this week. We'll just have to wait and see how bad it hits us.
I will deffinetly keep you all updated as i can, and i should be on as normal at least till Thursday morning.

I guess likewise. If we get hit with this, there is a chance I'll be offline. Just tossing it out there. Be safe, Brian. Don't forget your Poncho

Good luck Brian. I'm up in NC, so I'll probably get hit with something too, but not as bad as you. Stay safe dude.

Hang in there man, as an east coaster most of my life, I know what it's like. oh yea, i'm used to this sorta thing. lived in florida most of my life. No worries at all on my safety, just sucks cuz the county and cities always use us firefighters for major debris clearing, elderly evacuations, trailerpark evacuations, and things like that. Plus we get all the normal calls of medical emergencies and so on and the possibility of lightning induced fires. hopefully its nothing more major then a bad wind and rain storm and i can get back to my day to day routines right after.

From the looks at weather.com it seems like Ocala region isnt' going to get hit. Does your work force you to other counties?

Yea, looks the the National Weather Center updated the storms path in it's 12pm update. Path changed from its predicted path this morning. Chief says we're still on alert just incase the path changes again. whew!! We're still gonna get a pounding from the rain and wind of the outer edges of the storm, but at least its not heading right for us anymore. ------------------ On a side note... that cone on the website link... is just the proboble path of the center of the storm. that cone doesnt say where will or wont be affected by it. the storm is huge. even if the center is well of the coast, the edges still hit land. They just moved the cone further away from Florida is all. Local news station just said we're at the very least going to be getting 20-30mph winds and 6-8 inches of rain thurs, Friday, saturday. As with the nature of hurricanes, this can all change at any moment. track could shift more East, or more west, or slow down and strenghten, or speed up. who knows. Tropical storm force winds (40-60mph) spread out 180 miles from the storm. with stronger winds (100ish+mph) closer to the center.

Lucky! Send some west! I have a cousin who is (planning on) getting married on the beach in Destin this weekend, so we've been watching this to see if it causes any disruption of these plans. Since Destin is in the panhandle, there shouldn't be a big problem, but wind could be an issue. Anyways, hopefully she'll veer more to the east so that Florida and the east coast will be spared.

their thinking Category 4 (150mph+ winds) hurricane Irene Friday or Saturday and its path leads right for the Carolinas.
-crosses fingers for them-

Then someoen came in was like OMG! There was earthquake. I was like "really?..." lol
Some have said i could sleep through nuclear strike though. So ... I'm the worst with perception.
