Part B: Role Playing Experience Questions
Q1.) What does the Term "IC-OOC Separation” mean to you?
The term refers to the difference between me and my character/toon/avatar. I am me, a whole human being, and my character is just that, a character (i.e. a fictional creation). I know things he doesn't, and he knows things that I don't -- how to fly a starship, for example. To me, personally, this also means that I should keep my life out of my character's and vice-versa.
Q2.) What is the difference between the term Player and Character?
See above.
Q3.) What is Meta-gaming?
In addition to the way the 22nd views it (as described in the post "Chapter 1 - Introduction"), I see meta-gaming as when I, as a person, use information I know to influence the decisions my character makes.
Q4.) What are Action Brackets? (:: :: | - - |* *| )
Symbols used to differentiate my character making an action, versus speaking. (e.g. When I comm someone: *comm request*)

3-4 weeks? Ish. Less than a month.
Q6.) How long have you role played in general?
Over a decade. Approximately, fifteen years.
Q7.) What was your last role playing experience?
A pen and paper, Pathfinder campaign.
Q8.) What are your expectations of this fleet?
I'm looking for a casual group of RPers, who I can create fun stories with to help further my STO experience.
Q9.) What will you bring to this fleet?
I am an experienced role-player, a mature human being, and I think I have a pretty good sense of humor too.
Q10.) How do you feel about PVP?
I am largely not a fan of PVP in computer/console games. But there are a few exceptions to this, and I have not -- to my knowledge -- experienced PVP in STO.
Q11.) What difficulty do you typically play Star Trek Online on?
Advanced.
Q12.) Do you understand that all role playing is conducted locally?
Yes.
Q13.) Do you know how to roll dice on Star Trek Online? (If so what is the command?)
No. Possibly, /roll or /random X (where X is the max number).
Q14.) Do you have experience with Star Trek Role Play?
Yes. I have played pen and paper campaigns and played on the RP MUDs, "Where No One Has Gone Before" and "HoloTrek."
Q15.) Do you have alts in other fleets? (If so which fleet are we sharing you with?)
No.
Section 02 – OOC Character Inquiry:
Part A: Character Request
Q1.) Character name?
Andaryn Valow.
Q2.) Character gender?
Male.
Q3.) Character race?
Joined Trill.
Q4.) Is your character a telepath? (Alien telepath characters are subjected by GM approval)
No.
Q5.) Character class?
Operations Officer.
Q6.) Character STO level?
Lieutenant 10. (I'm hoping to make Lieutenant Commander, before the end of this weeked!)
Q7.) Select an fleet entry level rank. (Ensign, Jr Lieutenant, Lieutenant)
Ensign.
Q8.) What is your basic character concept & history?
Andaryn is a very rule-oriented young man, and the central theme of his career will be how to balance the actualities of the real galaxy with his own sense of how things should be. For his history, see below. In the interests of full disclosure, this is the background of my favorite Star Trek universe character. I played him on HoloTrek, where he eventually was KIA. I am not planning on repeating him over, but am only using this character and background because I so enjoyed him.
Q9.) What kind of commission does your character have? (Enlisted, Petty Officer, or Officer)
Junior Officer.
Q10.) Desired ship type of ship you'll be wish to be assigned too? (Tactical, Science, or Cruiser).
Cruiser, but I'm pretty open.
Q11.) Please give a little background about this character.
Andaryn is a joined trill, who recently graduated from Starfleet Academy. He is extremely close with his family, and despite an outgoing personality, only has a few close friends.
Q12.) Please describe what Merit System is.
It is earning advances and awards through your actions, which here in the 22nd would be role-playing.
Q13.) Has this character been enrolled in a fleet prior?
No.
Q14.) What are your aspirations for this character? Casual RP (I am just here to RP) or Competitive (I want to be an Admiral some day!)
Casual RP.
Q15.) What are strengths, weakness, and flaws in this character’s personality?
Andaryn's main strength is his complete confidence in the United Federation of Planets generally, and Starfleet in particular. He is proud to be in the 'Fleet and -- outwardly -- has no problems with the oftentimes rigid rules and regulations of that organization.
His main weakness, in addition to the above, is his emotional side. At heart, Andaryn is a very emotional young man, so he has to balance this with the strict regulations he adores. Sometimes he lets his heart make decisions that his brain knows are going to have serious repercussions.

Biography
Early Life
Andaryn was born on January 14th, 2392, in San Francisco, California, Earth to two non-joined Trill parents, Kenntus and Keldari Velksyrn. His mother, Keldari, was a Starfleet officer then assigned to Starfleet Headquarters, while Kenntus, was a sculptor and stay-at-home father. Until the age of six, he lived in Half Moon Bay, California, and his earliest memories are of the times his family spent walking along various beaches along the Pacific Ocean, and being taught to fish by his godmother – and dear family friend – Commander Jessica Anderson. Three years later, in 2395 Andaryn's brother, Jayal, was born.
In 2398, with tension between the Federation and Klingon Empire rising, his mother requested, and was granted, a transfer to a Starfleet relay station near Trill and so the family moved to the planet and his mother joined them there when she wasn’t on duty. The time on Trill, however, became a difficult and trying one.
Keldari lost both her legs after an attack against the relay station by "rogue" Klingon forces, in 2401; Kenntus took his wife’s injuries hard, and became a strict disciplinarian on his boys. And though, Andaryn knew that both his parents loved him, it was not an easy childhood after this time. Being the elder brother, he took it upon himself to protect his only other sibling from his father’s strict rules and punishments, and this began the intensely close relationship between the two boys.
Academic Life
Ever a bright child, it was to no one’s surprise that Andaryn breezed though much of primary school – though his parents suspect he stalled his own rise in the third grade because he had a crush on his teacher – and continued at an astonishing pace through secondary school.
He entered the Trill Science Ministry University (TSMU), in 2407 at the age of 15 and truly reveled his time there. In his first year, he discovered a love of the stars and enrolled in a combined astronomy degree and physics degree program. Finishing in three years, he was on his way to a third specialization in subspace spacial dynamics when he made the decision to try and become a joined Trill.
Joining
With the extreme competitive nature of the host selection process, Andaryn was very surprised when his application was provisionally accepted that same year, in 2410. And though it wasn’t until successfully completing the countless physical, psychological and personal tests that he was fully accepted, his surprise remained up until the day of his hosting surgery.
After he was joined with his symbiont, he learned the real reason for the haste was that, while the Symbiosis Commission was impressed with the young man’s many academic achievements, the Valow symbiont’s elderly host had specifically requested Andaryn as soon as he learned of the young man’s application.
Surprisingly, and frustratingly, Andaryn cannot access those specific memories and the symbiont refuses to reveal anything on the subject.
Starfleet Academy
Despite his brother’s strong disapproval, largely because of their mother's experiences, Andaryn entered Starfleet Academy shortly after his joining and found the experience both extremely exciting and terribly boring. While all new to him, the Valow symbiont had gone through countless years of schooling and – like many other new hosts – Andaryn often found this internal contradiction quite confusing. Eventually he learned how to separate past from present memories and that skill has served him well ever since.
At the academy, since Starfleet is always looking to encourage resourcefulness, the young man’s extensive academic training was utilized and Andaryn was made a cadet-instructor of introductory physics after completing his Initial Officer Training. Thriving in the role, the Trill decided to change the focus of his future career from science to command, and switched his major from Subspace Physics to Operations, though he kept his minor in Engineering.
It was in the Academy, however, that Andaryn learned of his love for spaceflight. As a required course, Shuttlecraft Piloting was something that he had dreaded ever since he had arrived; worrying about some unnamed failure ruining his chances to serve. However, once he got behind the controls of a shuttle he found it hard to step away from them. After the class he took every opportunity to fly, joining several student organizations that allowed him more time in various shuttlecraft, runabouts, and other auxiliary vehicles ranging from Academy flight trainers to work bees. He briefly considered once again switching his major to Helm and Navigations, but though he chose not to, upon graduation he did apply to Starfleet’s advanced fighter pilot training program. His application was rejected due to a large number of applicants that year but he was encouraged to apply once again following further practical experience.
Cadet Cruise
While on his cadet cruise aboard the Nebula-class starship USS Prometheus (NCC-71201) the vessel was called to assist in the search and rescue of a dozen missing colonists on Coltar IV.
During an unrelated trip to the surface, the cadet discovered five survivors; the only remaining ones of the original twelve. However, due to electromagnetic interference, caused by a severe planetary storm, Andaryn was unable to contact the Prometheus and elected to remain with the survivors. Despite various incidents, including being assaulted by a delusional colonist and suffering through the extreme cold, all six were rescued several days later by an away team from the Prometheus.
However, Andaryn's tour aboard the Prometheus was cut short by the ignition of hostilities between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets, as well as the arrival of the borg. He was quickly shuttled from the Prometheus to Spacedock where he would receive his permanent assignment from Starfleet Command.
