Section 02 – OOC Character Inquiry:
(All these questions are to be answered as player about the character you wish to play. It is best that you review daedalusomega.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rphandbook before answering.)
Part A: Character Request
1.) Character name?: Shannon Rachel Moore
2.) Character gender?: Female
3.) Character race?: Ginger
4.) Is your character a telepath? (Alien telepath characters are subjected by GM approval): Negative.
5.) Select an fleet entry level rank: MACO Captain, or appropriate MACO rank.
I looked at the ranks but I'm unsure what rank senior MACO is typically assigned. I don't want to have an enlisted rank, however. I'd very much like to be an officer with rank appropriate for my character's age. I'm basing my knowledge of MACO ranking off of both the Enterprise TV show and modern Army/Marine ranks. To my knowledge, Captain is the equivalent of a Naval Commander or Lieutenant Commander. I figured at the age of 40 she would be either a Captain or a Major. Obviously with a rank like this she probably won't see as much ground action, as she'd most likely coordinate operations from the ship, which fits into my character personality and background as you'll soon read.
5.) What is your character's Division? (i.e. Engineering, Tactical, Science, Medical, Helm, ect...): Senior MACO
7.) What is your basic character concept & history?: A middle-aged woman who enlisted into MACO at eighteen, graduated from the primary service training academy in Westpoint with high physical and average mental fitness scores, putting her immediately into command of various MACO units around the Galaxy, often dealing with first contact situations gone wrong or hostile wildlife away teams encounter on unexplored worlds, but mostly handling installation and operational defense in hostile environments or border worlds.
She's a fiery, passionate redhead with often times conflicting beliefs with Starfleet's and the Federation's policies. Despite her usually silent disagreements with Federation first contact policies and the prime directive she is typically by the book and obedient, rarely questioning orders unless her superior is mentally unfit pursuant to Starfleet regulation. She's hard and strict, often running a tight ship when in command of subordinate MACOs. There is only one recorded black mark in her service record, and an unusual period of a few years prior to her transfer request to the Independence where she served as a MACO instructor instead of on a front line unit. This would be notable due to her psych report indicating an innate desire to be in the field.
8.) What kind of commission does your character have? (Enlisted, Petty Officer, or Officer): Officer
9.) Please give a little background about this character.: ((I am so sorry about the length, I know it says "little background" but I got carried away and excited. I can give you a TL;DR if that's what you want, but maybe because it's so long you might not read it and just give me an A for effort . Guess it's hard for me to write very little unless it's required for class or some kind of ROTC slide-show presentation. Lmao. ))
Shannon Moore grew up in the American west; Living in Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona most of her young life until 18, where she had signed up to become a MACO commissioned officer, seeking the thrill of military and combat service. At an early age she had always been interested in old Earth firearms, her father having spent credits to take her to the holo facilities to experience firing classic firearms for herself. She grew to love the feel of power and control in her hands, taking a quick and rather persistent interest in all things ancient military, primarily the United States Armed Forces. At a young age she took martial arts, favoring Krav Maga over many of the other ancient Earth martial arts, and being very much a speciest she saw human combat arts as the superior forms of unarmed and armed combat in the Galaxy.
After enlisting in MACO she attended their basic training and primary service academy in Westpoint where she dived into the curriculum entirely, looking to finally learn the art of warfare in a Federation where peace and exploration were its primary objectives. She learned the necessary basics and advanced training and weapon familiarization, becoming proficient in the use of phaser rifles of both automatic and DMR (designated marksman rifle) variety. While not a sniper, if given some space, some quiet, and a decent sight system (not to mention the requirement of being in a simulation) she can generally hit targets well up to maximum effective range, assuming visibility does not affect what she can or cannot see. In addition to her combat studies as well as her university courses, she also took an interest in sports. During her schooling she played both volleyball and tennis, being rather average in both, she still had a great time playing on a team with friends in a competitive setting. Later, she graduated with high leadership and physical fitness scores, but only receiving a B average grade in her academic studies.
Later, she spent her second lieutenant years serving as a mere platoon leader on a deep space mining colony. A quiet, remote region of Federation space frequented by pirates and other independent miscreants. She saw very little combat here, and even then, as a lieutenant she found herself spending more time commanding than she did firing her weapon. Frustrated by this, she requested a transfer. Her ratings and reviews done by superior officers granted her a high performance rating, which inevitably saw to her transfer request being approved. She was then assigned to the U.S.S. Imperator deep space exploration vessel, it was here she saw her real first taste of action in a peace keeping mission on the edge of Federation space in a border skirmish with an independent colony of Cardassians. After settling the world, the Federation was unaware a group of radical, religious Cardassians had laid claim to the planet and had arrived a year after settlement had been well under way. The Imperator was called in to negotiate a settlement and, if necessary, evacuate the Federation colonists and respond to any aggression in kind as a last resort. When negotiations seemed to be going well, it had been revealed that 6 Federation colonists had been taken captive by the Cardassian independents, and after an hour of negotiation and the execution of one Federation hostage, two MACO squads were deployed, with now First Lieutenant Moore coordinating ground operations with both squads. During the rescue of the hostages, the squad she attached herself to was ambushed and she and her people were forced to fight back hard until one side was no longer left standing. Her squad suffered 50% casualties.
Long after the skirmish a hearing was held in court where it was determined that then Lieutenant Moore could not have seen the ambush coming until it was too late, and loss of life could not be avoided under the conditions. It was determined that if it weren't for her bravery, calm nerves, and proficiency of command and dedication to her platoon then the mission may not have been as successful as it was, and more Federation personnel would have lost their lives. She was awarded a ribbon for her injuries, one of which was a permanent loss of her left eye, and a medal for heroism. The rest of the squad was also awarded commendations. Throughout the entire skirmish, thirteen Cardassian aggressors were terminated in the whole skirmish, ten of which were involved with the ambush on Lieutenant Moore's group. Five out of six hostages were rescued, and 14 MACO's made it out alive and without injuries. 4 MACO's, including Lieutenant Moore, suffered critical injuries that kept them out of service for a long period of time.
After recovering from her injuries, and with a few new commendations and ribbons as well as a shiny new promotion to Captain, Shannon Moore returned to active duty, serving a near uneventful tour aboard three separate ships, the latest of which she was detained by the ship's first officer for disobeying orders and transferred off of the ship. Instead of being demoted, she was issued a grounding order and transferred back to Earth to take a teaching post. While MACO head quarters on Earth saw this as a way to quiet way get rid of her without a media buzz, she saw it as an opportunity to earn her field position back. After a few years of service as an instructor at the academy where she found herself frozen in rank, she finally found a friend higher in the chain of command willing to help her out. It was one of her old friends from her assignment aboard the Imperator; Someone she had saved the life of during the skirmish with the Cardassian independent colonists. It was with this connection that her grounding was lifted, and it was permitted for her to submit a request to transfer out of her current instructor position and back to the field. Her options limited, she found one ship with a senior MACO opening and sent her request into the U.S.S. Independence. It was either front line command or retirement for her, and retirement was never an option.

Some Extra Notes: As a rather large note here... I know I'm applying for a senior position and it could be a long shot, but I have a bit of experience in Role Playing leadership positions in large, cooperative Role Play communities where it's required to put in the work and time before obtaining command positions. I spent years in places like this, ascending to leadership roles- twice in a platoon equivalent command. The Role Play in this place used to be top-notch and pretty serious, where death could result in permanently losing your character and some little ounce of real life leadership ability was required to motivate and command gamers often times younger than you. I'm not, by any stretch, a military man in real life nor am I a great leader. I've only had a year of Army ROTC in college so far anyway. Hopefully my leadership RP experience can convince you to give me a shot at the senior MACO position so I can help my shipmates get a great RP and story experience.
As an additional (slightly smaller) note I'd like to apply for a year of advanced tactical training, it said I had to get GM approval and I didn't want to ask Kossuth for it since he'd already spent a lot of the night walking me through step-by-step on the skills. I think it's appropriate for a MACO to receive that kind of training, especially one with an officer's commission.
