I dont want the Admiral Donaldson character in permanent command of a starship. it limits his interactions with the other ships in the Fleet and with Starfleet Command. A station posting is better, but still limiting. I definitely dont want the Admiral to take command of a starship perminetly...ever.
Personally, Me as a person, OOCly, I love being the Captain of a Starship in RP. i love it and im good at it, plain and simple. This is an interest thread, and i have an interest.
Now, if we get enough players to launch another shipand we have a stable replacement in line, I would love for Vorath to take command of a small Defiant-Class. This ship could patrol the Klingon boarder, attack Klingon incursions, and engage in limited scientific research in the area. I think it would be fun and others might too, so im throwing this out there.
In limited response to Hann, I dont want the Indy for myself. I've made that as clear as i can to you many many times. I'm only going to say this one more time... Get over it and stop the drama.
I love the Indy and the group. I spent a long time and worked hard getting it in it's current state. It's my baby and i would never jeopardize it's well being. As i said in the previous post, i would never transfer him off the ship unless i felt confident that the ship would do well without him. If or when the time comes in the future and Nyoko askes if Im still interested in Vorath taking command of a Defiant, if the Indy isnt doing great, theres no replacement, and im not comfortable having the character leave.... then I wont take it. I said this in the previous post, there should be no conflict.
And the GM as CO policy your talking about is actually, no GM can CO the ship they GM for. Not No GM can ever CO. If we restrict GMs from ever attaining a command position ever, then we would be OOCly infuencing IC actions. A GM's character, who is perfect for Command and ICly deserves it, would be denied ICly solely based on OOC. That character would never advance and have no future. Thats bad RP.
All in all, im not trying to fight or argue with anyone. I just want to express my interest in this Interest Thread. I am a proven command player, i enjoy it, others enjoy playing under me, and I can bring a ship together and make it work. I just did it with the Indy and i can do it again. These are the qualities we as a fleet are looking for, so im putting the name of my alt up for consideration. plain and simple.

Yeah if GMs can never have the CO position of any starship, anywhere, I don't see much motivation to ever become a GM in the fleet.
I'd much rather have the Role Play for my character than any kind of power over the story and OOC.

The policy Brian is not arbitrary, it is born from history and experience. Time has proven that a clear separation of the OOC GMs an the IC Captains as the best combination to ensure the quality of our experience, provide checks and balances, ensuring team work, and fairly distributing the leadership in the fleet. Selection of Captains and GMs is an out of character decision, there is no "bad role playing" involved. Your interpretation of policy is interesting, but the goal is still to avoid having GMs in Captains roles, same ship or not. There have been exceptions when we have limited choice, but now is not one of those times. Your resume has been read and your interest is noted. Thank you. ~cyg P.S. Yeah if GMs can never have the CO position of any starship, anywhere, I don't see much motivation to ever become a GM in the fleet. I'd much rather have the Role Play for my character than any kind of power over the story and OOC. It is a sacrifice we ask our GMs to make for the sake of the Fleet.

As i said... im not here to argue. I hate being goaded into a public arguement.
Suffice to say.. i was here when the policy was made and nowhere ever did Nyoko say that a GM can never CO.. she specificaly said A GM can't CO the ship they GM for. That policy was made for me when i was the CO and GM of the Indy. I was told one thing from Nyoko and now your saying something completely different then what she said. This "rule" was enforced solely due to my time constraints in RL in relation to all my IC and OOC fleet responsabilities. Not for any other reason that you may be suggesting.
now.. if you two are talking and deciding Fleet policy without consulting the rest of the Fleet leadership, you should bring these new rules to the other GM's attentions. Noowhere was there a rule said that a GM can never have an IC Command position. If nyoko has changed the policy, then she can tell us. And you two should not have private discussions where fleet policy is decided without the other's input.
You do not run this fleet, cygnus. We all do. Nyoko is head GM, yes, but as she has told me many many times, it runs itself and she rarely has to chime in.
I'm done argueing. i hate it and it brings in a negative mood to everyone who reads it. Leave it alone here and if you have a problem bring it up in private or on the GM boards. If you continue to goad me into arguements in public, all will see who really brings useless drama into this fleet.
nuff said.

Policy is dictated by Nyoko. GMs have input, but the decision is her's to make. The choice of GMs and Captains is also her's to make. You know full well Brian your situation requires a different level of consideration and should be handled privately.
I believe Nyoko was interested in seeing who may be newly interested in GM and Captain roles, I think she already knows the people that have a historic interest. Perhaps she wants to review all the possible options or perhaps would like to give other people a chance at one of these roles instead of people who already have been in those positions. Whatever the reason, I doubt she intended the topic to get side tracked as it has.

Again you are incapable of keeping things drama free. I asked you to keep your mouth shut on this subject here in public and specificaly asked you to come to me privately if you have something to say. Instead of bringing this up to me in a private PM or bringin it up on the GM boards, you have once again chosen to try and goad me into furthering this in public and try and force a public display of drama.
This type of behavour from you only brings useless drama to the fleet, makes other uncomfertable, and draws people away from us instead of fostering a friendly enviroment.

I am merely providing clarification as it seems required. If this topic stayed true to Nyoko intention when she original posted it, it would not have required any clarification at all...

Nyoko,
What are the job requirements as a GM? What are the job requirements as a CO?
These may be questions that should be elaborated on so that it will help potential candidates determine if they fit the bill or not.

Some day I would love to become the CO of my own ship. But not now, I just joined the fleet and am getting use to how everything runs. Besides I adore everyone on the Adagio and would hate to leave them so soon.
Someday, but not now.

I can't help but notice Nyoko is both head GM and ship Captain.

I can't help but notice Nyoko is both head GM and ship Captain. Of course she is. It is her Fleet. We used to have everyone play as a ship Captain. The concept of ship crews did not become a reality until Season 3. Season 4 brought character sheets as well as Nyoko rethinking the leadership structure in how many roles and what kind a player should have. She used to GM her own ship and stepped down. I was her first ship GM, her current GM is Ceiling Cat. The fleet out of character leadership model is a monarchy, with Nyoko as the Queen, GMs her advisers and governors of their own ships that operate with a large degree of autonomy. The in character leadership is kept as distinctly separate and true to Trek as possible. ~cyg

This topic has quickly gotten off topic. This was never meant to be a discussion of fleet policy.
Now back to the subject at hand. As far as being a CO that isn't going to happen for me any time soon. I would never pull T'Pang from the Indy before that ship is up and running at full steam. If I ever had T'Pang leave the Indy it would be with the knowledge that the Rp would continue strong (with someone in her place as XO.) This is an important consideration on any ship, if we are going to pull important people away from positions on ship, we have to consider how that will affect RP on that ship.
I would consider a part as GM, but it would have to be a week night. Right now any week night after 6pm est time is ok. But Wednesdays and Fridays are best. Fridays would have to be early as the Ayanami runs Fridays latenight/Saturdays morning.
On Fridays I could even consider running early early say around noonish (cst) to accomodate our European bretheren.

I know, personally, that would be a perfect time for me to RP. I had originaly planned to hold the Indy at that timeslot, but we had lack of interest. Gears are moving. ;D

Nyoko, What are the job requirements as a GM? What are the job requirements as a CO? These may be questions that should be elaborated on so that it will help potential candidates determine if they fit the bill or not. Just gonna quote this again since I haven't received an answer yet. My apologizes Pirak. I've been terribly stick since Friday. The requirements aren't fixed in stone in any particular method. The show of dedication is parroment for eather role in the fleet. For us to begin to think about adding another starship we first need to resolve the player requirement. For any new starship group being assembled that new group needs minimal of four players, willing to meet on one specific night of the week, for a pre-determined amount of hours. That would be the first obstical to overcome. Depending on the rank of the CO, Captain, Commander, or even Lt Commander, determines the size of the ship we a lot for. In your case you would have to be approved for another character and that would be based on several factors of what we would allow you to play. Typically in a new members case we only ever clear for Lt Commader. (As examplfied with Talia when she first joined, and with M'row whom later became GM). We try to work with you in allowing you to role play the starship you want to play in. Though only time spent, and reputation in the fleet determines if you get the big guns or not. Most often people are content with any command as it is a proving ground for new members. So don't expect a Dreadnought class Starship. (Won't happen). The final challenge is finding a Game Master to supervise your adventures. That is often done with player resourcing. Searching for a player willing to spend the time to design / create storylines that will engage players, and give them that trek taste that makes them come back asking for more. Overall a CO position would be like a Faction Leader in a RP World. They are soul responsible for the In Character Happenings of there crew and there missions they are given. As a Game Master your responsible for the flip side of that. Your concerns are everything that is OOC. That the players are engaged, that your producing quality trek adventures, and that your giving me less work to deal with. Emphasis on the last part as begin a Game Master doesn't give you a license of I do what I want, obligates you to the fleet as an officer, and my assistant. Typically I like to pick players who have been in the fleet a very long time, as they have proven to me through there RP behaviors if they will be any use to me. The flip side to that is I like to pick bran new blood before any bad habits develop. So that I can train you to adopt my values. In the past when STO was dieing cause, and we hadn't seen a new member in months, I have had to lessen my exceptions to work with what I have had. (Hense why you see so many conflicting personalities.) It's not perfect science, nor will It ever be. I can only hop with the introduction of new members I will be able to provide the fleet with quality Commanding Officers, and Game Masters. Thats the good, the bad, and the ugly outlined for you. If any of this makes sense to you. Then I implore you to set up a appointment where we can chat and I am able to get to know you better
