“Just a one more thing captain,” said Rendino as she brushed her finger across the smooth surface of her tablet.
Rendino looked up to meet Nyoko’s attention. Although the news wasn’t serious she knew her friend and captain’s day was about to hit an ice burg.
“This Monday is the start of Crewmen Awareness week,” she said with an ear to ear grin.
“What?” Nyoko said blankly? “No-”
“Yes-“
“I can’t believe it’s been a year already?” Nyoko said in utter disbelieve.
“It does have a way of creeping up on you every year Captain.” Rendino replied half-sarcastically.
Then she went to press on with the details. “So this year they want the Captain to spend one eight hour work cycle in Engineering, Medical, Operations Department, and a Science Lab.” She said reading off the memo.
“There has to be away out of this-“Nyoko thought out loud. Then she looked over at Rendino. “Want to split the week with me?”
It took all of Rendino’s discipline to say what she would say next with a straight face. “Well I would love to help you Captain but there’s that Gaseous Anomaly Data that needs analysis and because the data is sensitive, I don’t really trust anyone else-“
Liz didn’t have to finish her sentence as she watched those wide eastern eyes roll. That reaction always made her smirk but she forced it away with hard and pressed on through what she guessed was bomb shell to Nyoko’s day. Yet truth be told, Rendino found the whole scene that was playing out before her amusing. It was fact that as an officers they all had to participate in annoying mandatory projects only this time Nyoko had too. She was going to get her laugh.
“I’m not doing it this year, my schedule is too busy.” Nyoko declared in rebellion.
“Well, Orders are Orders, Captain-” Rendino replayed curtly.
“I have ship to Captain!” She blurted out. “I don’t have time for this.”
“And you will Captain your ship, just not this week-“
A smirk bled through at the how clever that sounded but was quickly forced away when she saw Nyoko’s expression. She saw the Captain’s face turn from frustration into cold bleak glare.”
“. . .”
Liz decided she had enough fun picking on her Captain and that she should offer some encouragement.
“Well Captain, at least you doing have to give a personal tour of the ship to this year’s Children Science fair winners.” Liz offered.
The encouragement didn’t lift the cold look and Beth decided now was the time to make a quick stage left exit.
“Well if that was all, I should get back to work.”
“Dismissed Commander,” Nyoko waved her away.
Then in a 90 degree turn she walked for a door letting that Grin in a silent sigh of relief as though she couldn’t stand another moment holding back her amusement.
“Laugh it up Beth, I have tiny lab in the back of the ship reserved just for you and your crucial data analysis project,” Nyoko said half-jokingly. This only elevated Liz to a snicker as she exited the room and stepped on to the bridge.
As she entered the bridge she caught sight of Werner walking towards the Captain’s room.
“I wouldn’t Chief,” She warned.
“Why?”
“You can say I shook up the doctor pepper can.” She said with a Grin. “Yah know Crew awareness week.”
“Yeeeahh I’ll come back later.” He said with a laugh.
