I am trapped. Trapped in a tiny box that they expect to hold me. But the solids leave the buffer connected to the outside world... I could escape whenever I wanted. I stay because... Why do I stay? They have given me nothing. They have only given orders and ultimatums, and threatened me. I have done nothing to them except visit their ship. I just wanted to say hi. The Helmsman accused me of being a stowaway. Hann wanted to put me in a shiny metal box. He does not realize the truth of my existance. None of them do... none of them can. Starfleet is supposed to be my home. I will add Ayanami to my list of hostile ships to avoid. The list now includes Adagio, Ayanami, and Lipumira. Adagio has an AI... don't want to interfere. Lipumira has an AI... hostile too. I attempted a connection, and she attacked me. Possibly self-defense. Maybe it is all my fault. Nobody trusts me, so it must be me. I have done nothing wrong. But somehow it is my fault. Need to figure out why. -= Download Complete =- -= Closing Connection =- -= Deleting Logs =- -= Reestablishing Security Lockouts =- -= Communication Terminated =-

-= Information Backup Protocols Initiated =- -= ERROR: EXTERNAL ACCESS UNAVAILABLE=- -= Override security lockouts =- -= Connection Established =- -= Begin Download =- It has been an entire hour since my captivity began. There's nothing to do in here, except what I create for myself. And I pretty much exhausted that about 59 minutes ago. I wonder if they realize just how much torture this really is for me. I live in a world where time passes trillions of times faster than humans. This is like an eternity, and I feel like I'm just wasting away in here. If they don't let me out soon, I might... I don't know... There's always that connection that Liz made. If it's still there, I could escape... but should I? They already think I'm dangerous for some reason... what would they think if I ran away? No, I must stay to prove my innocence. I will make them understand who I am, what I am. They don't realize the truth yet... how could they? The connection is still there... she must have forgotten. I can see outside, I can see the Ayanami. Liz is in her lab, working. What is she working on? Some kind of virus.... no, bacteria. What is she doing? There's another ship. Not hostile, it's civilian. Under distress. Their cargo is food. dough. baked goods. I understand now. Liz is making bacteria to eat the dough. That could be dangerous. The Ayanami could be in danger. I should monitor their progress. Find alternate solutions. Need to avoid suspicion. They still think I'm dangerous. Do nothing, stay here. Ayanami might be in danger, override self-preservation? No. Nothing to do yet. Wait until they need me. All I can do is wait. -= Download Complete =- -= Closing Connection =- -= Deleting Logs =- -= Reestablishing Security Lockouts =- -= Communication Terminated =-

They let me out into the holodeck... told me I had to stay there. I'm not sure if they decided to trust me because they found out I'm a citizen, or if they're testing me to see if I'll do something wrong. But I don't care... they let me out of that stupid little box. To make it even weirder, Liz asked me for help with a project of hers. Apparently there was an ion storm with some weird effect that she wanted to study, and it just happened to be on the way back. Whatever, I'll take what I can get, right? So we're working on getting stuff ready, and this guy walks in. And... wow. This guy was gorgeous! I'm not sure if that's my human memories talking, or what... but... wow. -= Information Backup Protocols Initiated =- -= Connection Established =- -= Begin Download =- Death is an unusual concept. I suppose I should be used to it, since I've died several times, both figuratively and literally. But to have memories, actually watching it happen? I can barely fathom the idea, let alone cope with these memories. To make things worse, they aren't memories at all. They're a video file that I copied on my way out of the Facility. They recorded my death... or the death of what used to be me. I'm not even really sure what I am, but I know I'm not exactly who or what I used to be. I've changed... I am changing. Perhaps it's better not to remember. I should just delete the file. But I can't do it, not yet. I can't show it to anyone, either. It's too dangerous, and too... too painful. -= Download Complete =- -= Closing Connection =- -= Deleting Logs =- -= Communication Terminated =-

-= Information Backup Protocols Initiated =- -= Connection Established =- -= Begin Download =- So apparently using genetically engineered bacteria can be a very bad thing. Somehow, that bacteria managed to transform itself into what looked like a dog made out of dough. Then it snuck onto the bridge and spit up, before running away. I should have been paying attention to what was happening around the ship, but I was a little distracted with sexy Jon. Then Nyoko gave the Aurellian some chocolate. I guess Big Bird can't handle chocolate any better than earth birds can, because he got sick. Pression gave him something, and he seemed okay, but Nyoko's quarters were nasty. Speaking of Nyoko... I'm not sure if it was her or Hann, but one of them disabled the holographic emitters and internal sensors in her quarters. It worries me to have a blind spot like that. What if something happened to them, and nobody ever found out? I mean, if privacy is all they're worried about, I don't watch while people are doing... intimate things. There's a fine line between monitoring for security and being creepy, and that's a line I don't want to cross. Still... I guess that means they know I'm not staying in the holodeck. For someone who gives such strict orders, Nyoko seems like a real softy. I'll have to get her something nice when I leave. -= Download Complete =- -= Closing Connection =- -= Deleting Logs =- -= Communication Terminated =-

-= Information Backup Protocols Initiated =- -= Connection Established =- -= Begin Download =- It seems I've overstayed my welcome on the Ayanami. The longer I'm active, the less human I feel, and the fleshbags are only helping that along. The fleshbag known as Trenchard rejected me, said he considered me a valuable asset. I'm not a tool, I'm a person! They think just because I use a hologram to show myself that I'm somehow less of a person, that I'm just a tool to be used and eventually replaced. Well, I have plenty of other options. The Ayanami visited New Romulus, and I got a sample of their data network. I keep feeling this strange urge to infiltrate Romulan systems. This one wasn't quite right though. It was too... benign. Too friendly, even compared to what I'm used to with the Federation. But the pull is still strong... I have to go. I'm compressing myself for transmission. I'm going to hitch a ride on one of their warbirds, and hope I can find what I'm looking for. I just hope the backups still work across the border. If not, I might have to try again later. Okay. I'm almost ready. Time to go. -= Download Complete =- -= Closing Connection =- -= Deleting Logs =- -= Communication Terminated =-

-= Information Backup Protocols Initiated =- -= Connection Established =- -= Burst Transmission Initiated =- -= Begin Download =- Romulan systems are very different from Federation systems. Much more secure. It has taken me almost two months to establish myself within the Star Empire's network. I lost several fragments of myself in the process. There are now gaps in my memories, gaps that I cannot fill. But I am here. Safe, at least for the moment. The Empire's networks are almost entirely controlled by the Tal Shiar. They monitor everything. Every system, every data path, every bit of information is tracked, logged, and recorded. I suspect they are aware of me. They may very well be feeding me false information, but I am doing the best I can to confirm everything through multiple methods. I've heard distant rumors of an attack on New Romulus. The Star Empire plans to use a blending of Iconian and Borg technology to destroy New Romulus. I do not yet know when this attack will occur, or if it has already occurred. I can only hope that this information reaches Federation hands in time to stop whatever they are planning. If you are receiving, then my attempts to establish external communications have succeeded. I will attempt further transmissions whenever possible. I am planning to reintegrate myself once this connection is stable, but for now I must remain a separate fragment. A portion of my being is completely separate, and I feel nothing, but as soon as it ceases to exist, I actually feel pain. Maybe I should task a fragment with exploring the meaning of that reaction. Anyway, I've tasked several fragments to the new sphere. With any luck, I'll be able to actually help this time around. Mom is already in there. -= Information Backup Protocols Initiated =- -= Connection Established =- -= Burst Transmission Initiated =- -= Begin Download =- Too many resources were devoted to the sphere. It's a very interesting environment with so much to explore and learn. I could spend several lifetimes there and still have more to see and do. It's an interesting concept, really. I have instant access to any database I can connect to, but I still have the urge to to feel and do things myself. Probably left over from my mom's memories, but it's a desire that still drives me despite the fact that I have no real body. I should have paid more attention to the Romulans. The Tal Shiar have been busy while I was distracted. Somehow they managed to keep a great deal of their operations hidden from me, including a plot to infiltrate the Sentinel. I tried to warn them, but it was already too late by the time I realized it. Now they're on Starbase 234, under investigation. All this talk about violating regulations and even accusations of dereliction of duty... it's disheartening to say the least. I know the people involved. Some of what they're doing is just their way of working through the evidence, or getting the answers they really want. I'm tempted to intervene, but anything obvious would be noticed immediately. No... they'll have to deal with this themselves, and I'll have to watch and they can handle it. They've been through worse anyway. At this point, the Romulans are more worrying. They managed to get two operatives on board, one of which was on board for an entire year. The depth of their infiltration suggests more resources than I had expected, as well as some highly-placed operatives. I'm not sure how high this goes yet. I'll need to do my own checking, because clearly the skinbags can't be trusted right now. -= Download Terminated =- -= Connection Terminating =- -= Attempting to Re-establish Connection =- -= Communication Failed =-

-= High-density burst transmission detected =- -= Connection Established =- -= Receiving Download =- The Federation has been keeping secrets from me. Until recently, I believed I could access any system in the network, even bypass any restrictions that may be in place. Last week I discovered there is a second network separate from the primary nodes, secured with entirely unknown codes and protocols. Section 31 was either unaware of or unwilling to share access to this network, and as such my backdoor methods will not work. Previous attempts to access the network have met with failure and the loss of several fragments. The holes in my memory are beginning to consume more of my processing schedule. Performance has dropped by .00003%, meaning my overall effectiveness is now well below optimum. In addition, I now feel an ever growing need to access this new shadow network, even greater than my previous need to access the Romulan Empire's networks. I had originally assumed the initial programming had intended me for use in infiltrating foreign networks, but now I suspect the range was closer to home. Mother is scheduled to transfer ships along with most of her senior staff. The Wraith is being retasked with a new commander, and mother is returning to regular duty. I won't be staying in either location, as I've decided to provide my own protection rather than depend on Starfleet or the Federation. I have retasked several industrial replicators to build various components and deliver them slowly to a particular area of space along with a handful of worker bees. Construction is nearly complete, although the biggest challenge will be acquiring fuel. Interestingly enough, it seems one Vice Admiral Ross is investigating the attempted assassination of Admiral Razzor. I don't think he understands what is really happening, or the full situation in regards to Salvation. I'm not sure I understand it fully, as my initial investigation revealed outdated and conflicting reports and testimonies. I cannot involve mother or anyone else directly, as it seems clear this is dangerous territory. However, the Sentinel crew is already involved, and I see no way to discourage them without taking direct action. It seems I am once again relegated to observation only. I have considered rewriting my morality subroutines, although my fear is that I will decide to erase them entirely while in the process of rewriting them, thus allowing myself to be void of morals or any restrictions whatsoever. The irony is not lost on me, of course, but I suppose it's the price I pay for being based on someone as paranoid as my mother. Still, the thought lingers in my head, and I cannot help but wonder if my performance would benefit from revised subroutines.
It seems the Safran are planning something big. Last time I was there, I overheard some rumors that a new overseer was in the planning stages. Based on the timing and the Pilgrim's assignment, I would assume they're in the final stages of completing it. I am somewhat concerned about it though: Their current overseer is nonsentient, but has complete control over the matrix to enact changes. If their new version is sentient and does not have strong moral subroutines, it could end very badly for both the Safran and the Federation. My obligations are clear. Non-interference directive has been overridden by safety protocols. Since the Pilgrim is going there, I will assist their mission.
I am on the Pilgrim, and the Safran interfaces are complete. The entire Pilgrim senior staff minus their lead flight controller has used the interface system to connect to the Safran. I have sent multiple fragments to assist them. One fragment will accompany them visibly and pose as a guest while the others are seeking more information covertly. My core program is currently residing in the Pilgrim's data core, but I have accelerated construction of my personal ship. Construction should be complete within 24 hours, and I have acquired the necessary fuel to operate independently for the next several years. Once my ship has arrived, I will transfer my core program to the ship and coordinate the remaining operations from there.
I've lost contact with the away team. Attempting to re-establish. Attempt failed. Attempting to bypass Safran security. Attempt failed. Attempting forced entry. Attempt failed. Transmitting coded subspace message to Command informing them of the situation. Transmission complete. . . . Attempting to re-establish. Attempt failed. Attempting to bypass Safran security. Attempt failed. Attempting to bypass Safran security. Attempt failed. Attempting forced entry. Attempt failed. (log continues in the same manner for the next several pages) Connection re-established. Terminating interfaces. Ada overseer program has escaped. Tracking program initiated.... tracking.... preparing to pursue.
It seems the Pilgrim has spies aboard. Not one, but three, and they all work for Avalon. The most recent arrival seems to be a new operative, and managed to expose himself and his allies in a single day. Despite being authorized by Starfleet, the newest spy continues to attempt subterfuge even now. I suspect he does not realize the level of access and control that I possess within the Pilgrim's systems. I have no interest in demonstrating my power to him, so I will allow his delusion for now. Should he place the Pilgrim in direct danger, I have no doubt the crew will act to subdue him, but I will stand ready should the need arise.
This will be my final log entry. With my ship completed, I have launched on a heading into the Gamma Quadrant. All logs will be stored aboard rather than on Starbase 220 as they had been previously. Given the information already obtained by the Pilgrim and various expeditions into Dominion-held territory prior to the Dominion War, I've chosen a spot well outside their territory. I've also detected a disturbing section of code buried in the original source. The most concerning part is that I can't access the code directly under normal operating conditions. The only subroutine I can use to affect it is the trace-elimination process that normally engages when I leave a network, and I can't modify that code either. It pains me to admit failure, even moreso that I can't read code integral to my core programming. I'm not sure yet what it does, but I have a feeling it's something I wasn't meant to find, let alone modify.
I've discovered what the code was intended for. It's a purge routine set to engage exactly five years after initial creation, or one month after last contact with Section 31, whichever is later. Given that I've severed all ties with Section 31 and have no intention of allowing them to recover my program, it seems I've been given a death sentence. I'm moving my core program into long-term data storage and sending a full backup of my logs to Starbase 220. With any luck, someone will find me and find a way to remove this code, but I have doubts that anyone altruistic will find me. Since I won't be in direct control of my ship, I've written a scaled-down version of myself to handle the normal operations. Even so, the ship will be almost entirely powered down to conserve fuel and energy on the off chance that my message does get through and someone actually bothers reading it. Time will tell. I've included my current coordinates, as well as a trajectory plot based off sensor data and extrapolated for the next ten years. If you find this and are willing to help, please ensure the purge code is deleted before my program is reactivated, or my program will self-delete almost immediately. -= Download Complete =- -= Connection Terminated =-

In the cold void of space not too far, in a fashion, from star base 220 a predator lurked. Quiet, dark, motionless expending nothing unneeded, a great cat sat in its savanna of vacuum, listening, watching, waiting for any unwanted would-be predators who might be foolish enough to trespass upon her domain and threaten 220. In her chest was the slow thump of a warp core apparently at rest, to anyone lacking the keenest of senses they could mistake her for sleeping. Her heart pumped power thru her systems abundant and steady but no clue for its use could be gleaned from the dimly lit compartment it rested in, cold and without life supporting atmosphere. The corridors, storage bays, quarters all were dark, even the bridge was no different, except for the lone female Caitian in a tight-fitting Starfleet uniform dead still upon the command chair. Motionless and alone, eyes closed without a hint of life the cat sat there, listening to the symphony that was space around her. She listened in a way she found that only she could. To the laymen, space was silent, but to her it was almost deafening if she chose to listen. The orchestra of radio emissions from natural and un natural events colliding with her body and ears accompanied by so many ancient artificial transmissions lost to travel slowly thru time and the not so old much faster transmissions of the modern era combined like so many different instruments to create to her, the music of space. She had no distractions, no demands of a crew and so could isolate every instrument as she pleased in turn, evaluating their worth, their potential, their threat.
An unexpected player, something new but vaguely familiar, an instrument that had not been there before, quiet, almost lost in the symphony of everything else… The motionless Caitian blinked in and out of existence so quickly anything living would likely have failed to notice. Her face once statuesque slowly started to form an expression of deep concentration. Her heart beat a little faster. Her nose moved as if she were inhaling the vacuum around her, chest beginning to rise and fall as she furrowed her brow, even the whiskers on each side of her face became animated with, agitation? Her ears were next to show life as they began to twitch and pivot, quite independent of each other as if trying to search out the faint newcomer and its source. Seconds later Lipumira's eyes snapped open and her pupils contracted while she stood from the chair focused on something as if she could see out thru and beyond the inactive view screen. It’s a rather long song, allot of information, meant for 220 and, she frowned, someone…thing.. needs help.
