Star Date: 87982.64
Personnel: Lt. Jg. T'Shanien
Location: Sol System, Earth Spacedock
Title of Log: Promises kept, promises made
Format: A-V
<Playing as requested>[/i]
"Computer, start recording.. personal log: ens.. Lieutenant T'Shanien, junior grade."
The image appears on screen as a young woman pacing through what appears to be one of the crew quarters at Starbase 01, in orbit of planet Earth in the Sol system. For about a minute, the woman doesn't say a word, either thinking about what to say, or nervous about saying it. Its not until the computer reminds her that recording has been started that she finally speaks up.
"I err... today I met with Commander Honda for my interview" she starts
"I think it went well, I don't know. She seemed somewhat... cold, distant. And she kept looking at a pad, writing things down. I tried but I couldn't get a good look at it."
She approaches the replicator and orders a mug of hot water, ran through ground coffee beans, and in trying to curb any future pacing, she takes the drink to her desk, sitting down behind it.
"I have to admit, I was a little worried that my old academy instructor hadn't written up a thorough enough report on me, when he submitted my transfer form. But as it turned out, I had already been accepted and had even been assigned a Runabout!"
She pauses for a moment, watching the steam rise from her drink. She doesn't take a sip and likely never would. More so than nourishment, the scent and esthetic of the drink calmed her heart.
"There wasn't much time to feel relieved, however, as I learned I'd been assigned to the Damascus, an Hephaestus class Advanced Escort vessel. The name of the ship and its role bring the promise of excitement and... danger. Frankly I'm a little scared."
It was a bit naive of her, maybe, to admit to such emotions openly as a Vulcan. But she didn't think anyone would read her personal logs. Besides that, keeping up the facade was very tiring and she needed a release. Although it wasn't a particularly new phenomenon that some Vulcans retain some or most of their emotions, Vulcan society very much looked down on it.
Many would say that T'Shanien's reasons for being less than stoic aren't so shameful, though she wouldn't agree. Simply put, her parents, officials of the Vulcan Science Academy stationed on Earth weren't as infallible as popular opinion on Vulcans tends to be. Either too busy or too bitter about their assignment away from their precious Science Academy, they neglected to fully teach their daughter what it truly means to be a Vulcan.
Still, she tries very hard. To be like the Vulcans described in the databanks, and to make her parents proud through her scientific accomplishments while continuously hiding the truth and her shame of it.
"I spoke briefly with the captain of the Damascus via subspace, though she seemed pleased to have me aboard her ship, she was quite.. intimidating. Not businesslike or cold in her demeanor, but it was clear that she's been through a lot... that's she's seen a lot of combat."
On some level, however, she was growing tired of it. Perhaps another reason why she would admit it to a computer is that she wanted to be found out, so that she wouldn't feel so alone, so that someone might help her to be what she wanted to be or... what she thought her parents wanted her to be
"I just hope I'm ready to see the same. Computer, stop recording"
((OOC: so this is my first log entry, with maybe some insight into T'Shanien's being I didn't want her to be just another 'Vulcan with emotions' cliche or even the exact opposite, but I did want her to.. grow into it. Instead of just a stoic vulcan that has seen everything and (acts like it) knows everything, I wanted her to be young and somewhat conflicted but not for any overly dramatic or complicated reasons.
Of course, depending on her colleagues and her surroundings, things might turn out very different than what Shani expects.
Feel free to pm your comments/thoughts/suggestions if you have any!))
