My request for transfer to the Mobile Fleet, Daedalus Omega has been granted. This should allow me increased freedom to pursue my research; both scientific and that of a more personal nature.
Granted, the cost of this freedom will likely be increased military service, however, it is a small price to pay to be free of the ever vigilant Vulcan Science Academy. It seems illogical that an institution devoted to understanding would be so vehement in the intolerance of dissenting philosophies. Surely, even Surak refined his theory as his understanding of self increased?
However, it seems that followers of Nirak and his more modem counterparts are not only frowned upon, they are outcast to the depths of space. Still, the transfer to Starfleet Command may have been the best of all possible outcomes. It allows them to be rid of the taint of a non=purist, it allows both of us to save face, and it allows me increased freedom to pursue this philosophy and all that it entails.
I await the first fleet briefing a few days hence. So far I have only spoken to two fleetmates. The first was Commander Honda who was remarkably reserved for a human female. Most of them have been in my experience quiet prone to emotional outbursts. I will monitor her closely to see if this was merely a facade or if she has mastered her emotions.
The second was a Vulcan science officer named T'Shanien. We met briefly on the Earth's Spacedock. While discussing fleet assignments and preferred areas of research, she seemed to fight against displays of emotion. While they were certainly mild in their presention, I still find this most intriguing. Certainly, it was not appropriate to initiate a dialogue of such a personal nature in that venue, but I will admit to curiosity about her philosophy. She has quite apparently not undergone the kolinahr. This is certainly fortuitous and an opportunity not to be dismissed.
