The computer hums to life, showing Dala'an as he settles in at his terminal to report. His glassy eyes seem a bit darker, signs of recent moisture at the corners and in streaks down his cheeks. He raises a hand to lightly rub at one eye before speaking.
"Personal Log, Lieutenant Dala'an Spectrus, Stardate 90854.4. I've spent one week with the crew aboard the U.S.S. Adagio. So far it has been relatively uneventful, besides a training accident and a rather... painful experience." He pauses and closes his eyes to take a deep breath. "A faulty emitter in a training phaser resulted in temporary blindness, but, my vision has returned to normal. Sensitivity to light remains a bit higher than the normal levels, but, gradually has gotten better. I doubt it's of any concern, though I shall inform medical regardless."
The next pause is longer as he glances down, then raises his head up with a deep breath. "I suppose I should speak of the incident on the bridge... The doctor aboard the ship, one Asiani Jaril, had recently suffered a personal loss. A loved one, her husband, I'm told. I didn't know the specifics at the time, but, when she came to the bridge... it screamed at me. Her agony, her sorrow. It mirrored my own when I lost my mate 27 years ago." He shakes his head to try to clear away the thought. "The Captain as well, though, less recently. Such pain never goes away. We merely forge ahead and bury it. Eventually, it forms a psychic scar, one that, while it doesn't hurt to touch, aches in remembrance... The Captain has asked that I try to aid her if I can, and as cruel as it may seem, the universe does not wait for us to heal. Doctor Jaril will have to find her path forward, all any of us can do is be there to support her in her journey."
His head tilted down and this time stayed down as he inhaled a ragged breath before continuing. "I find myself missing home more these days. A trip back is impossible if I am to complete my tour of duty and represent my people. The pressure grows greater, and though I can handle it, I find myself wishing at times I didn't have to." His head lifts and he gives a nod. "It's been a long day... Ending log to sleep." His hand reaches toward the terminal and the log ends.
