Nyoko picked up her daughter looked the two year old in the eyes. Then pressed her lips upon her for head and looked the baby again who had a mouth full of pacifier. The child was unsure of what the signified was though it seemed to since the mommy was leaving for a while. Then Nyoko dressed in the new Odyessy Uniform a uniform that was black from toe to shoulders and capped by gray color that was outlined by division strip. She sported her command com badge upon her bosom and a single boxed pip pinned to her collar.
“Are you sure you want to do this Nyoko-chung?” Nyoko’s mother asked in Japanese.
“I have too Okaasan (Mother), ” She replied looking to her mom who was almost in every way an older version of herself.
“Starfleet certainly has away of owning Honda’s” she said amazed at the commitment her ex-husband had demonstrated during the years and now her daughter.
“She will miss you,” Ayoko added.
“I’ll miss her,” She shot back. “But, with Donaldson gone, 22nd Mobile need me now more than ever.” She reasoned.
“And the father?” She added.
Nyoko looked down feeling the shame.
“Yes, I will try Okassan,” Nyoko replied after long moment of silence.
Then Ayoko took baby Yuna from Nyoko’s arms and held the child up. She was beautiful baby her small Asian baby face and head full of thick black hair. There was no mistake for those who knew the couple that made this child. It was both Honda, and Hann.
“Good.” She said flatly then continued, “you cannot fly around the galaxy with this shame following you.”
“You two need to learn to forgive each other first, Nyoko-Chung” Her mother added. “Then you can start to think about what kind of relationship you two will have.”
“To do that, you have to talk-“ she let the thoughts hang on Nyoko.
Nyoko simply nodded. She wasn’t’ sure exactly what it was she wanted from Hann. She was angry, so angry that she was willing to keep the child away from him and raise it herself. She engineered it that way when she had the baby. By omitting his name from the baby’s birth certificate it would be a futile legal battle on Hann’s behalf to obtain any kind of legal resolution. Though all that changes if she decided to come clean with him. The betrayal she felt with him being unable to work things out with Brian and taking a promotion and abandoning the Ayanami command. She didn’t know how to begin. She didn’t know how she would have ever returned to 22nd Mobile, yet alone Starfleet.
Nyoko had bleed, been shot, infected, tortured, and faced death over and over for the good of the federation. When she decided she wanted a baby, they stripped her command, and reassigned her crew to a pet project that Donaldson wanted to see underway. The thought of it irritated her beyond all measure. She had given 20 years of her life to the service and she couldn’t have a baby, or rather feared a scandal could have been made out of her and her executive officer. So to protect her man, and herself she resigned herself to medical leave.
She had tried to return a year prior though re-crewing the Ayanami was impossibility until the following Year. There were just not enough resources. Yet this time was different. This time Brain was gone, and Meranda had assumed admin powers of the Fleet. Things would be different with Donaldson taking his promotion to Starfleet Command.
“We’ll see Okassan,” Nyoko said softly. “Right now I am the last person he wants to see.”
Ayoko leaned in and with her free hand reached out and poked Nyoko’s chest right where her heart would be. “You do, what is right in there.” Ayoko said solemnly.
Nyoko hadn’t decided if she was going to tell reconnect with him or not. In fact she didn’t’ even know where he was. The last thing she remembered was he took an Admiral’s job with the 6th fleet. In fact she wasn’t even sure she wanted to see him. She had thought of this time returning to Starfleet as chance to star over new.
“I will Okassan,” Nyoko said quietly.
Then Ayoko adjusted the baby in her arms and looked to Nyoko her daughter whom she was so proud of.
“We are proud haha (mommy), aren’t we Yuna?” Ayoko said in a kiddy voice and Yuna sucked on her pacifier some more.
"Yes we are!” Ayoko spoke to Yuna again in a children’s voice.
“I don’t know If I can leave her Okassan,” Nyoko said with heavy heart her eyes welling up with tears.
“Oh quit with those tears. You have service to do, and the least I can do for all your sacrifices is help you look after Yuna,” Ayoko said firmly and Nyoko swallowed hard fighting back the tears.
“Hai-“ She said lightly.
“Hai.” Her mother responded in a reinforced manner.
Then in a final kiss to her daughters fore head Nyoko pulled up her duffle bag. Extending her arms around the two the only family she’s ever known and hugged them along moment.
“Daisuki,” She said softly.
When she pulled away she was forced to wipe some tears from her eyes. Nyoko turned and started out the door leaving her Mother and daughter to themselves while she went to rejoin Starfleet.
“Are you sure you want to do this Nyoko-chung?” Nyoko’s mother asked in Japanese.
