<NOW RECORDING>
He's sitting back in his chair, hands in his lap, staring at the wall next to the screen. For a moment, he remains silent. The room around him is dark, the only light coming from the screen in from of him. His expression is blank, and he's obviously very tired. He then lets out a single chuckle, grins a little, and finally looks at the screen.
"Lieutenant Gillespie here, star date 88037.34. I'm not gonna lie, I am... ridiculously tired right now. I've been awake for about 52 hours now. No, not because I've just been screwing around hardcore, I've actually been hard at work. Since I finished processing into the Daedalus Omega fleet, I've been all over the place trying to get my ship and my crew squared away."
He rubs his eyes, then sighs as he looks up at the ceiling for a moment.
"It really is amazing how small the universe can be sometimes."
He leans forward and rests his elbows on the tabletop, folding his hands together.
"One of my top priorities right now is assembling a specialized bridge crew, half of which will double as my personal away team, and I'm hand-picking them myself. I won't get into specifics right now, but, I've already got four under my command, each fresh from training. Let's see... there's Olivia, my new XO. Finest tactical officer I've worked with so far. Says she was born to be on the bridge of a ship. I believe it. Then there's William, who decided to become an engineering officer after being a combat engineer for six years. It's nice having another former-enlisted around, even if we were completely different ratings. Anyways, I knew he'd be perfect for my ground team, so he was a natural choice. Next, there's... crap, what was his name? I think- ah yeah, Sylix. Cool guy. Vulcan. Of course, he's a science officer, and a freakin' good one at that. He seems right at home on the bridge, and he's got some medical training, but I'm not sure if putting him on the away team would be a good idea..."
He looks down at his hands, and sighs deeply. He continues speaking without looking up.
"The fourth one... she... it's gonna be... I don't..."
His gaze returns to the screen.
"It's freakin' Leslie. Leslie LaPhonta, from the Andreas Sky. I haven't seen or heard from her since we served together on the USS Rancor however many years ago. Now, all this time later, she comes up to me at Earth Space Dock and says she wants on my crew. I'll question her awareness of the situation later, I'm... right now, I'm just... it's great to see her again. To say the least. Though her return to my life is... something just seems off to me. What I would like is to find out why I haven't heard from her in years. I feel like there's... something I should know. Or... something. I donno. I thought we were close. Maybe I was just naive, or... stupid, or something. If she didn't wanna keep in contact, then... I donno, a lot of time has passed... but seeing her again, it feels like it was just yesterday when... ah... It's... yeah..."
He rubs his eyes, then fights back a yawn.
"Maybe I'm just putting too much thought into it. It doesn't really matter now, I have a lot of work to do and lives to save. It's different being the captain of the ship than being its Medical LPO. It's like everyone's still depending on me to get them through alive, but now they're actually aware of it. Because I'm the CO. I donno if that makes the responsibility greater, or what. Whatever it means, I've got much better things to worry about than my own personal life right now."
He yawns, and sits back in his chair again.
"Word. I need to get some sleep. The universe can wait. Olivia is still on the bridge, she can handle things until I back on my feet. That's probably why she's the XO. So... yeah. Computer, end log."
