The shower was nice and as always refreshing. Nothing like sonic shower and although it did have its form of pleasure there was much to be said for nice warm shower. Nyoko today was running it warm. The steam fogged the glass shower doors and mirrors of the suite’s wash room. When Nyoko had soaked under the large shower spout for long enough she reached out and turned the valve shut cutting the water off.
Carefully she stepped out of the shower and took her towel off the wall rack to start drying herself. Once she had dryed herself she slipped into light blue bathrobe then bent forward to let her damp hair to dangle forward. The in a quick motion she twisted and followed it back making a turban out of her towel, just as she was about done in the washroom she heard chime at the door.
She walked over to the door and pressed a button. “Who is it?” She asked curiously. She was completely unsure who would visit her at this hour.
“It’s Commander Riens, Admiral” Jackson announced.
Then Nyoko’s finger tapped the open button on the panel alongside the door allowing the doors to slide open unveiling her in her standing in a bathrobe and towel wrap.
“Commander Riens-“ She greeted him almost half expectantly. “I suppose the expectation is no one this ship sleeps.”
“I’m sorry Admiral, sometimes I forget people actually do that” he said with laugh as he silently thought to himself. It was late.
“I must confess I am guilty of such myself-“ Nyoko responded.
Then he made complete eye contact. “Do you have a minute to talk?”
Nyoko took a moment to consider if she really wanted to get involved in conversation with him or not. She couldn’t help but to laugh at herself. This was always the case. When she had made up her mind about boy or has decided to get involved with another, they always seemed to show up at her door. In a soft sigh she nodded once.
“Well- Might as well come in rather than to broadcast what it is you wish to say to me to the hall.” She invited him in.
Then she moved out of his way and allowed him passage into the VIP Quarters that had been reserved for her and he entered.
“So, um, How have you been?” He asked.
Nyoko ignored the question for a moment as she walked deeper into the rom passing him. She let the silence befall between them a tactic CO’s used often on their subordinates and Nyoko was playing the game of not allowing him the knowledge of what was acceptable and not. When she arrived at the small coffee table near the window port of the room she held her hand out to the tea set. “Green tea Commnader?” she offered making eye contact with him.
“Sure-“ And he joined her.
As he closed in on the vacant chair Nyoko sat down on the edge of the couch pressing her knees together and tucking them around the edge of cushion sitting upon it like perch. It also forced an elegant look even though she was dressed in bathrobe.
“I usually take mine sweet with coupe cubes of ice” he said with a smile inferring that green tea wasn’t his cup of tea.
“This is hot tea” The Asian Admiral said with a smirk reaffirming that Green tea the only thing on the menu this evening.
Then after she had finished pouring the two cups she slid his towards him. As he smirked back at her realizing there was no chance for such hospitality. He brought the cup up to his lips and sipped the green tea remaining natural in his expectation of the tease.
“As to your question-“ Nyoko started while he had the cup to his lips. “I’ve been occupied with my deployment.” Yet that wasn’t much of an answer to ‘how are you’ she reflected after the fact.
“May I speak freely, ma’am?” Jackson asked.
“Of course Commander, I imagine the matter is of a personal nature.” She responded.
“Yes, It is,”
“I hope I haven’t turned your life upside down.” She offered a concern of hers.
“No- No, you didn’t. I did good enough job of doing that myself.” He started to explain.
“I see-“
“I talked with Liz and it gave me a lot to think about, but that isn't why I came in here.” He started into his monologue he had been practicing in his head since they last parted.
“I came in here to apologize. Not for what was done, but for what wasn't done. I should have told you that Risa meant more to me than just a fling.” He came clean.
“Even if that didn’t change anything” he added unsure how she was taking this bit of honesty.
“I see-“ she said listing to him those soft brown eastern shaped eyes upon him. Then they brought her tea cup up to sip.
“How did you come to determine this?” She asked in slight confusion. She had trusted her intuition that Jackson although found Nyoko attractive, (but what boy didn’t?) he was invested in Beth.
“ I knew it while we were there.” He said as it was fact. Nyoko wasn’t’ convinced.
“But it seemed you where else where or at least confused.” She reaffirmed her assessment back then.
“Because of something I said in my sleep?” He questioned her interpretation. “Unfortunately the heart isn’t a discrete thing.”
A likely excuse Nyoko thought quietly.
“It was one of the signs I noticed. The death of your love and daughter.” She added.
“Yeah, I’ll never get over that. That’s something a man never gets over. You just learn to live with it and learn to think less about it as time goes on.” He added.
Then Nyoko went to ask the question that really brought her doubt in the first place. “You’re not in love with Beth?”
“I ain’t saying that either, like I said the heart isn’t discrete thing, once you love someone it never really goes away,” He went to explain to her.
“What I’m saying is-“ Jacks went to clarify his point for her. “I accept that getting attached to Beth wasn't healthy.”
“But- when we were together, it didn't matter because I cared about our time together.” He added.
“Why?” Nyoko asked bluntly in efforts to understand what had changed so much.
“It’s just easy to be around you,” He said softly.
Then Nyoko added some of her own intimate feelings on the subject. She sat still on the couch perched on its edge as she responded with her thoughts.
“I have to admit the disappointment hurt me-“ She said opening up to him.
“I know, Like I said I should have said something sooner but, I let rank and work get in the way of what was right.“
“I tried to distance myself from this in way that would save us both dignity. A fling isn't anything to be ashamed about.” Nyoko continued to explain her feelings.
“But letting go of the possibility of something more isn't something I want to regret.” He said to her making eye contact.
Silence overcame them as he was having tough time reading her facial expression and this was often the trouble when you involved yourself with someone from a different culture. The awkwardness of the silence made him feel out of place and he continued on.
“Unless I’m complete off here and you really just want me to get the hell out,” He said in fear of embarrassment and laughed.
Nyoko dismissed that last statement as insecurity. She simply pressed on with making her point as there was real complication with her feelings. She was In love with Hann that was fact but could she ever truly forgive herself, or trust him with her heart. Then to the reverse of that could he ever really trust her? With Jackson it was new, and vibrant, and the sex was amazing. Not only that he was smart, and Nyoko found that attractive. Although he wasn’t eastern be was cute.
Her expression soften. “The disappointment made me consider my old feelings for the other main in my life-“ She was being straight with him.
“Though II cant’ see how, he and I will ever come to trust one another again.” She continued on with her the start of her confession.
“Seems like neither of our hearts likes being discrete.” He commented.
“I was very angry with Tanaka Hann for abandoning me, my command, when I became pregnant.” Now it was her turn for a monologue.
“I swore to myself I didn't want him around. I didn't even list him as the father. Now things have resolved themselves. I’m left with two tough questions.” She pressed through the tough truth she had been struggling with since Risa.
“Can I forgive him? Can I trust him?” She asked.
“I can see how that might be problematic Honda,” He said quietly.
“Believe me, I was very excited to enjoy that weekend with you.” She offered some good news to him and he agreed.
“All this tiem I had thought or at least it seemed to me it was just for fun. This moment of sincerity was something I was unprepared for,” Nyoko allowed him to see her weakness in this. A leap of faith in trusting him and she stepped off the edge.
As she finished her last sentence she took long moment to stare out the port hole.
“I am not sure what you want?” She said and her eyes found his again.
“I’m not sure either but” he trailed off for moment. “But, I would the chance to find out.”
“Our relationship would be long distance,” She warned him.
“It’s Starfleet thing,” he responded.
“At some point I will have to speak to Tanaka Hann about my daughter. I’m worried about putting you in the middle of that.” She offered another obstacle.
“It’s risk, nothing worth doing is lacking risk,” He added.
“If things don’t work out?” She questioned again.
“Then they don’t work out,” he responded. “But we live dangerous lives; if we don’t try we’ll never know.” He offered.
“Its true she said with light smile.”
“Casual. I like Causal,” Nyoko offered.
“So, is it too soon to cash in the statue?” He smirked.
Then Nyoko smiled widely hearing the gift was well received. “Did you like that gift?” She asked.
"Yes, I did." He said.
Carefully she stepped out of the shower and took her towel off the wall rack to start drying herself. Once she had dryed herself she slipped into light blue bathrobe then bent forward to let her damp hair to dangle forward.
