Meranda sat and listened to the alert from sector 001 several times but something about it bothered her beyond the obvious though she couldn't place what it was. Computer, display message... She read the message a few times and then all at once everything that was wrong with it dawned on her and Kalavek in the same instant. Meranda's eyes narrowed as she considered it. No no no this will not happen on my watch it'll be a slaughter! Computer, give me the sector map and relative positions of federation vessels operating in the area... now give me their top speeds using the slowest vessel of their groups as the groups top speed. She looked it all over taking it in as quickly and accurately as she could, her finger came to rest between Andoria and Vulcan. She mashes her com button on the desk. Get me a secure channel with the fleet, NOT just the 22nd I mean the entire fleet! She waits a few moments before finally getting the go ahead.
Attention all vessels underway or preparing to get under way to assist with sector 00,1 this is Admiral Kalavek, commanding officer of the 22nd Mobile Daedalus. As of now I'm taking command of the response. Alter your course for the coordinates (a location between Andoria and Vulcan), do it now don't wait for this transmission to finish. As you're aware the distress signal from 001 was general and broadcasted over an open frequency, this means the Undine forces attacking received it as well. If the force is sizable enough to prompt such a distress signal, its strong enough to have jammed such a signal. Here is why they didn't. The distress call demands and uncoordinated response to 001 starting with the staggered and haphazard arrival of our newest vessels, those equipped with slip stream propulsion. If I were the Undine commander I would break a group off from the main attacking force and wait for these random one of two at a time vessels to appear in system and rip them apart. Then as slower, older vessels arrived in small groups I would do the same to them, rendering any counter attack or flanking gesture impossible and creating even larger losses.
All responding vessels are therefore ordered to the given coordinates where they will rally and move into sector 001 as a unified and organized counter attack. Slip stream vessels will not be leaving their escort and support ships behind! The Undine know we are coming, but thanks to that broadcast they are expecting emotionally compromised small contingents to randomly arrive starting with our fewer but more advanced vessels. It is my hope that with that expectation in mind our coordinated organized group entry into 001 will catch them off guard and make quick work of their interception force before moving on to the primary task of destroying their primary assault force.
Once the vessels arrive at the staging area they will move on to sector 001 together. The wounded and vessels in need of repair will be received at Star Base 220.

Once the channel was closed she hit her com button again. Contact Klingon command and inform them of the situation. Yes we are requesting their assistance. If they get uppity or resistant then remind them of a few things. First that we just helped pull their collective asses out of the fire from a similar attack and that we lost vessels and crews honorably assisting them. Second, that by helping them in such a way they have a debt of honor to repay and this would clear up that debt which I'm sure they are eager to get rid of. Third, this is an opportunity for their revenge against the Undine for the attack on their home world and lastly much honor would be heaped upon the name of any house that joined with us in combat against the Undine and achieved a glorious victory!
Once you've concluded with them, get hold of the Romulan republic and see if they have anything in the area that can assist. If they get resistant or hesitant, remind them that the Klingons just had a major engagement and their strength isn't what it usually is and if the Federation suffers similar losses there will be no one left who can afford to assist or defend their budding republic and they have a gate on their front lawn. Meranda huffs and then closes the channel. This is why I'm not a diplomat she says to no one in particular.
