So I was asked to share the rules of Mafia, which we played on Pilgrim tonight.
From Wikipedia:
Mafia (Russian: Ма́фия, also known as Werewolf) is a party game created in the USSR by Dmitry Davidoff in 1986,[2] modelling a conflict between an informed minority (the mafia) and an uninformed majority (the innocents). At the start of the game each player is secretly assigned a role affiliated with one of these teams. The game has two alternating phases: "night", during which the mafia may covertly "murder" an innocent, and "day", in which surviving players debate the identities of the mafiosi and vote to eliminate a suspect. Play continues until all of the mafia has been eliminated, or until the mafia outnumbers the innocents.
The Town wins if they eliminate all Mafia.
The Mafia wins if they have enough members to control the day vote.
This game can be played with a minimum of five people to a theoretical maximum of... many, many people. Standard setups are:
5 players: 3 Town, 2 Mafia
7 players: 2 Town, 1 Special Role, 2 Mafia
Some special abilities may be added for more interesting outcomes. Examples:
Town Cop - Can investigate a player at night and determine if they are town or mafia.
Town Doctor - Can protect a player from being killed at night.
Town Vigilante - Can perform their own kill at night.
Town Drunk - They're town, but will appear to be Mafia if they're investigated by a Cop.
Bulletproof Town - They can't be killed at night.
Mafia Rolecop - They can determine if a player has a special ability at night, and what it is. If they target a Town Cop, they will be told that player is a Cop.
Mafia Godfather - If they die, the whole Mafia team loses regardless of how many Mafia are still alive.
Mafia Roleblocker and Town Roleblocker - They can stop any particular person from using their ability at night, including their night kill ability.
Mafia or Town Bomb - If targeted at night, they die -- as well as the person who targeted them.
