DGM Note: At the request of the player this is an open thread to all Protector players to pop in and talk about helping out with the retrofit or actually performing repairs.
A beeping alarm signaled the start of a new day. The small green-skinned female stirred from her slumber, rousing like an animal from hibernation. As she stumbled the short distance to the refresher, she kicked off her boots and finished the job of undressing that she'd started the night before. The bed she'd vacated was stained near the pillow with what could only be a mixture of drool, mucus, and tears. The bed and uniform would be immaculate by the time she returned, of course, courtesy of the automated cleaning services.
Several minutes later, Nalie emerged from the refresher looking clean, if not fully refreshed. She padded over to the small dresser and pulled out a form-fitting bodysuit. She tugged it on, then reached for the first piece of armor. Normally reserved for combat duty, the energy-resistant armor was also airtight. Nalie preferred the more agile armor to the bulkier EVA suits normally required for working in space. After donning the armor, she pulled the backpack power unit on and snapped into place before activating the onboard systems. She slipped on a small eyepiece and activated it. The suit automatically linked up with the starbase computers and began feeding sensor data about her suit and surroundings. Using the control panel built into the left arm, she checked that the suit was sealed except for where the helmet was missing.
The woman who emerged from the quarters acted calm and ready to work. There was no hint of the previous night's terror, and no outward signs of her scarred past. Nalie walked the short distance to the turbolift and stepped inside. The lift carried her effortlessly to the Engineering level, opening only a minute later. As Nalie logged into her console, she could see that some workers were already in motion. Some were completing the tasks they'd been assigned during the night, while others were setting up for the day's planned installations.
Nalie looked over the schematics and the schedule. Today they would be completing the outer structural supports for both nacelles, and preparing the interior supports that would house the three impulse reactors. The reactors themselves, of course, would be installed later in the week, so the supports had to be ready before that could happen. That sounded easy enough, and Nalie hoped the work would go as smoothly as the schedule suggested.
