STARDATE: The Present...
The Anesidora, an Olympic-class Research Science Vessel, cut through the outer layer of the nebula known as the Choral Sea of Storms as it continued its scans. On the bridge, Captain Karen Warwick was recording her log.
"Captain's Log, Supplemental. We have reached the third veil of the Choral Sea of Storms, which is the deepest that our ship can safely explore. As of right now, only the Starship Pilgrim has the kind of shield technology required to penetrate the second and first veil, and as of right now, they are otherwise occupied.
For the most part, the survey has been uneventful... except for the last few hours. We've been tracking a large metallic object that is moving through the second veil. Due to the local plasma currents, we expect it to be discharged shortly."
Just as she put down the PADD, her science officer swiveled his seat. "Ma'am. We believe the object is now leaving the second veil."
Before she could react, the hazy deep blue-purple of Choral Sea of Storms was broken up by a large, silver object... careening directly toward the Anesidora.
She called out for evasive maneuvers, but Helm was already on it. They barely avoided the object as the ship yawed to the side.
After the Captain caught her breath, she gave the order: "Get that object on main viewer."
The bridge crew stared at it for a moment, not really believing what they were seeing.
The tactical officer was the first to describe it correctly: "Hey! That's a nacelle! A Starfleet nacelle!"
And indeed it was.
She spoke with her eyes fixed on the object, reading the ship's name and registry number as she gave orders. "Tactical, tractor beam. Helm, get out of this nebula, one half impulse. Once we're clear of the distortion, get Admiral Arak on the comm."
She couldn't believe it. She read it a few times just to make sure she wasn't hallucinating.

TO: Rear Admiral Arak Verdaan / Director, Project Avalon FROM: Captain Karen Warwick / Commanding Officer, USS Anesidora
MISSION REPORT
We have spent the last several weeks conducting salvage operations in the Choral Sea of Storms. We have recovered a large amount of debris, apparently from the Starship Pilgrim. This debris include the vessel's starboard nacelle as well as pieces of hull plating and damaged systems. We estimate that approximately 15% of the vessel's mass has been recovered from the Choral Sea of Storms.
Unfortunately, the Pilgrim herself remains the only vessel in the fleet with the shielding required to enter the deepest portion of the Choral Sea. As such, we cannot explore further to determine if more wreckage exists.
Given that the Pilgrim is currently on mission in the Delta Quadrant, and is considered fully intact by all reports, the presence of this material remains a mystery. We are returning to Starbase 33 with the debris in tow for further analysis.
Signed,
Captain Karen Warwick Starship Anesidora
