The door to Vic's quarters slide open for Kessi, revealing his usual quarters on the Sentinel, but without one hint of cigarette or cigar smoke. It has clearly been cleaned up, and decorated with Indian-themed rugs and throws. A turntable in the corner is playing a light tune:
On the table were two place settings and two dinners, freshly made. Two sets of chicken cordon bleu, (mostly) not replicated. There was a bottle of fine Earth chardonnay.
Victor was just placing a loaf of freshly baked bread on the table as she entered. He was wearing a red-and-brown silk dinner jacket and a rose-gold timepiece on his wrist. On his right hand, he wore a small silver ring. Every detail indicated that this was a man who valued his leisure time.
"Hello, Counselor." He smiled. "Come in, and have a seat."

Kessie had paused shortly upon entering Victor's quarters and was a little taken back by the presentation. Her eyes scanned the room, examining each detail as she did her best to hide a surprised expression. It was actually a little relieving to not be bombarded by the usual scent of his smoking habit. She really did have to give him credit for all of the effort put forth.
Her lips curled into an amused sort of grin as she finally forced herself further into the room, moving toward the table. "That is a curious musical selection, but I dare say I quite like it."
Her preparation for the evening had simply consisted of an outfit change and she wore a simple dark blue dress that fell just below the knee. She wore some comfy flats but had no other added adornments.
She paused at one of the chairs and took a moment to regard him again. "Thank you again for this dinner invite. It looks as though you went to a lot of trouble."

A faint scent of sandalwood drifted through the air... she would notice a small incense burner in the corner, producing a very tasteful whiff of smooth, milky, woody smoke. It was just enough to set the mood, but not enough to offend the senses.
Vic pulled out the chair for her. "It's no trouble, Counselor. I think it's a real pleasure to be a host. Especially since, well, we got off to a rocky start. I figured that after our little... conflict in Sickbay, you wouldn't be inclined to talk to me anymore. So it's really an honor that you came here tonight, and I wanted to acknowledge that."
He went and sat down, pouring some glasses. "Do you like chardonnay? I think it pairs well with this dish. By the way, I made most of this without a replicator. I brought some real-grown food from Earth the last time I was there."

Kessie smiled politely and gently sunk into her chair as he spoke. Her hands brushed down across her skirt to straighten the wrinkles before she took her napkin from the table and settled it in her lap. As Victor mentioned the sickbay incident, she continued to fiddle with her napkin and she let out a faint sigh. "I have been meaning to speak with you about that and extend a sincere apology for my actions. It had been a rather stressful evening and I let it all build up until that moment. There is no excuse of course and I do hope you can forgive me. But I do also hope you can continue now to be honest with me."
She leveled her gaze at Victor with that last sentence. She was sincere, but there was a hint of intensity there that she did indeed expect honesty now. After a pause she flashed her casual smile as she looked over the food before her. "I would love some, thank you. I had thought perhaps to bring a bottle of something but was unsure of what food to expect to pair it with." Her smile grew a little more curious then, "I can't remember when I've enjoyed something homegrown. How did you cook all of this?"

Victor shrugged as he placed his napkin on his lap. "It's a tough situation... I hope you understand. You see, we wanted to help with Chorus but we also thought that placing an Intelligence Officer on the Sentinel would be... let's just say... bad for morale after that whole Salvation fiasco. Would anyone have worked with me?"
"Take Commander Razzor for example. She's helped the Sentinel a million times over and was instrumental in bringing down Salvation, but still, half the crew doesn't trust her. There's no way /I/ could have helped out if all the cards were on the table right at the start. If the crew can't even fully trust Commander Razzor, then hey, I'd have been tossed out the airlock in five minutes flat."
"Then again, I understand why you responded the way you did. So I take no offense to it at all."
He took a sip from his wine before remarking, "I replicated a little stove. I know that replicated food is essentially the same in all relevant respects but I think that making it by hand adds a little quirk that you don't get with the replicator. When the replicator makes it, it's the same every time. But when you make it yourself, it's always just a little bit different."
"Want any bread?" He said as he offered her a basket of rolls.

Kessie took a sip of her own wine, listening as Victor explained. "I do understand and I hold no ill will. It must have been a tough situation to be placed in." She leaned forward to pluck a roll from the basket he offered and nodded in thanks.
"I must say I am a little surprised to hear that so many do not favor or trust Commander Razzor. I got the complete opposite impression. Though I suppose I was personally influenced in my opinion by the presence of her mother in my mind."
She paused and took a moment to tear off a piece from the roll and enjoy a bite. A small smile remained present on her lips as she enjoyed the flavor. "I am curious though.. Now that your original mission has been, I assume, completed.. What will you do now?"

He took a bite out of his roll and nodded. "I'm glad you see the issue. I mean, they should be able to trust the Commander one-hundred-percent. One hundred and ten percent, in fact. So the choice was tough. I could have been open about everything right from the start, but that would have crippled my ability to help. Or I could have kept it under my hat. I had to pick the second option, otherwise I couldn't have aided against Chorus. You know, they call these snowflake rolls. Love em."
He started to cut his chicken into bite-size pieces.
"As for what's happening now... who knows? The Captain tried to get me off of this ship a few months ago, but that was blocked because I had an active mission. Now that the Chorus issue has been settled, I'm sure they'll try again, and it might be successful this time. I'm sort of playing it by ear."

She pursed her lips in thought as she began to cut into her chicken. "I must admit I am not sure i agree wholeheartedly in that assessment. It seemed as though once you were revealed our plans could take shape and we were better able to coordinate with each other. Teamwork as they say.."
A small bite of her chicken was taken and Kessie avoided eye contact for a moment as she attempted, and failed to keep a neutral expression. A faint smile tugged at her lips as she began to cut another piece. Damnit, it -was- good, and she rarely had an opportunity to enjoy non-replicated food.
Finally she cleared her throat and looked up, "in fact, I believe I was able to assist you in that tank of yours. Speaking of which, how often have you used that thing? That was quite the experience.. I can't imagine what all you've seen.."

He chewed on his chicken as he contemplated a response. "I've been in that thing probably dozens of times. The first guy they sent in, went crazy. The second guy went crazy. In fact they were about to give up on the thing entirely until I hopped in it."
"It's definitely the sort of thing you don't want to use very often."
"But regardless... how are you enjoying your time on the Sentinel?"

Furrowed her brow a little as he spoke of the results regarding his tank. She continued to enjoy a few bites of her meal and enjoyed a slow sip of the wine. She started to speak again but paused, deciding she would press him further about the tank later since he was continually trying to change the subject.
Kessie smirked slightly at the subject change and decided to humor him for the moment. "Well, it has certainly been an eye opening experience to say the least. I've never seen a more.. Unique.. Gathering of individuals all on one ship. It has proven to be challenging, but I do quite enjoy a challenge." She seemed to be looking right as him as she spoke those last few words, a smile resting on her lips.
She took another sip of her wine as she watched Victor, curious to see what she could sense from him. "What about you? How have you enjoyed your time here?"

Vic smiled at her pleasantly as the first song ended, and another came on.
"Sorry for changing the subject." He said a little demurely. "I'm sure this device must be very interesting to you, but there's a dark side to the whole thing that can't be ignored."
"As for my time here... I suppose it's been... fine so far. You know, this is probably my first long-term ship assignment. I started out in JAG, then ended up in the Diplomatic Corps. In both positions, I'd rarely stay on one ship for long. In fact, I didn't bother to bring much with me since I'd be gone before I had a chance to unpack."
"It's refreshing to stay in the same spot, and it's comforting to have the same set of quarters. I guess that's why I put a little extra effort into decorating them."
"But let's be honest... I'm not seen as a part of the crew. Then again, I wasn't on my past assignments, either."

Kessie smiled in return, continuing to enjoy the dinner as they chatted. She gave a nod at the mention of the tank before speaking. "It is interesting indeed. I'm sure you can understand that if there is an object such as that and we know there is a dark side to it.. We would want to better understand it? Or do you think perhaps something with a dark side should not exist? I know I for one am no angel." She gave a quirky sort of smile and enjoyed a sip of her wine.
There was a brief pause and another sip was taken as she pondered over his words some more, now shifting away from talk of the device and returning focus to him. "I am glad you've been able to experience a long-term assignment." She nodded and motioned to the room around them. "It looks like you've settled in quite nicely actually. It looks lovely in here."
She settled back into her seat a little as she took another drink and then held the glass in both hands. She watched him a moment while a kind smile crossed her face. "Well Deacon.. Victor.. whatever name you so prefer to be called now. You should know by now that I see you as part of the crew. In fact, after the last mission we went through I think you've certainly shown yourself to be part of the crew. I think we worked rather well together on that mission actually."
"Do you wish to be part of a crew? It seems like working in that Tank requires a lot of time alone.. which can be damaging in vast quantities. But working with this crew.. You can gain a lot from it, and I think the crew could as well. Perhaps you and I can go speak to the captain and see if your assignment could be extended? If that is something you might be interested in."

Continued from in game on 11/27...
The music changed again:
Victor ate up the last of his mashed potatoes.
"So..." he sipped his wine. "Would you tell me exactly what Doctor Spencer wants to do? I know there's been some talk between the two of you... I saw the little nods you exchanged... I'm on your side, remember. I want to help. I just also want to know what's going on."

Kessie relaxed into her chair, done with her meal and just now finishing off her glass of wine. She tilted her head as Victor posed his question and she paused for a few moments in though before responding. "Well, I don't know -everything-, but I do know she wishes to use the tank in hopes of finding a way to locate Alice. But you should know most of that I imagine. We are both hoping you could help us in this endeavor as it pertains to an important crew member and friend on our ship. We would love your help." A soft smile was given as Kessie watched Victor curiously now since the tank was brought up again.
