((OOC: Keep in mind, this is a few years before STO))
"Over there," Agent Argos said, nudging his head into the direction of a crowd of beings comprised of uncountable species.
"Over where?" Hayden asked, his eyes following his mentor's direction discreetly.
"The Andorian male with the fedora-like hat," the older Bolian specified. Hayden scanned the throng with his eyes more clearly, seeing the target. The Andorian went by the nickname "Facade" (or, at least, that's the word the universal translator gives), and was known for making criminals in the Federation "disappear", hence the name. Argos and Hayden were ordered to track down Facade by their superiors in Starfleet Intelligence. It took approximately three Earth months, and took them from Andoria, to P'Jem, to Cardassia, and now to Rigel III, and at last they had him in their sights. "I'll move in directly. You cut through the alleyways and intercept him."
"You got it," Hayden nodded, dodging through a Rigellian family and into the specified alley. He raced through the dim passageway, the darkness enhanced by the clouds above that poured snow into the streets, leaping over lazily-tossed trashcans and other debris that littered the small, clearly under-traveled walkway. Hayden pulled out a tricorder from his belt and scanned the area, immediately finding Argos's location marked by his transponder. The Bolian was moving at a fast-walk pace, clearly trying to catch up to Facade without drawing attention.
There weren't many Andorians in the area, making Facade as obvious as a wolf in a group of sheep. The tricorder showed that their target's heart rate sharply increased, likely because he noticed Argos trailing him. Suddenly he dived into an alley--an alley that was only eight meters from Hayden's location. Taking a deep breath, the human increased his speed, and within moments tackled Facade right as he came to the intersection of passageways. He fell to the ground, and Hayden quickly pulled out his hand phaser. "Whatever it is, I didn't do it!" the Andorian claimed immediately.
"Starfleet Intelligence!" Hayden shouted. He pulled himself up once Argos came into view, who proceeded to bind Facade's hands together.
"'Facade'," the Bolian spoke, "you are under arrest due to evidence proving your trafficking of Federation criminals." The deed was done, the mission was over. Another outlaw was in the hands of the Federation's justice system with enough evidence to convict him with little difficulty. Well done, indeed.

"Mister Parker, you are being reassigned," Captain James Quincy stated. He sat behind his desk, facing Hayden and Argos.
"What, why?" the young man asked, surprised at the sudden announcement.
"You're being promoted to full operative status," Quincy explained. "Agent Argos gave his recommendation, and I felt it was warranted.
Hayden was still shocked. Not only the suddenness of his promotion, but the fact that it was actually happening. Throughout his time in Starfleet Intelligence, he never actually considered being a full operative, as odd as it may seem. His surprise was obvious in his teal eyes, although Captain Quincy seemed to not notice it. "T-Thank you, sir," Hayden stammered. He took a deep breath through his nose and recomposed himself. "I accept with great... uh.."
"There's no need for that, Operative Parker," the captain said, his hand up and a smirk on his face, "I'm sure you'll do just fine. And we're assigning you a partner, as you were to Argos."
"Oh?" Hayden asked. "So soon? Who is he?"
"She," an unseen voice corrected, which was soon followed by the presence of another occupant of the office, entering from its only doorway.
"Operative Hayden Parker, meet Operative Aliana Thehl," Captain Quincy introduced. Hayden leaned forward in order to catch sight of his new partner. She was Andorian, bright blue skin and antennas protruding from her forehead made that obvious. Above the blue extensions was a fringe of snow-white hair, whereas below held dark eyes that looked forward at their superior with total seriousness. Hayden suddenly found himself worrying that he was teamed with a stiff, but that apprehension was buried quickly when she looked over to him and a smirk lined her face quickly. "She's a forensics specialist, and it was also because of her that we managed to track down Facade."
"Ah," Hayden started, extending his hand, "a pleasure."
Aliana placed her blue hand in his, returning the greeting. "Thank you," she said simply.
"You were the one who helped us find Facade, huh?" the young man inquired, "How did you manage that?"
"He's a cousin, of sorts," the Andorian explained, "black sheep of the family."
"Indeed," Hayden nodded. He suddenly remembered the presence of Aros and turned to him. "Well, sir, I suppose this is goodbye for now."
"For now," the Bolian agreed, "we might have missions together in the future." He turned to the captain. "If there isn't anything else, I'll take my leave." Quincy nodded, dismissing Argos.
"Now, I know you two have just been acquainted, but I already require something from you two," Captain Quincy suddenly said.
"What's that, sir?" Hayden inquired, which was followed by a PADD being passed to him from across the desk. He picked it up and looked at the screen. "You want us to go to some trade station in the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone?"
"Yes," Quincy nodded. "Evidence suggests that Orion pirates are smuggling suspicious cargo--likely experimental weapons--to the Klingons. And, as you two know, relations with the Klingons are at their lowest since around the time of the Dominion War."
Hayden mimicked his superior's nod, thinking at the Intelligence reports and the news broadcasts. Tensions between the Federation and Klingon Empire have been extremely high, growing over the past few years. Many believe that a war was unavoidable.
"Stockpiles for war?" Aliana asked.
"Most likely," Quincy agreed. "I need you two to leave immediately. There's a runabout in Landing Bay Five that has been assigned to you."
"Aye, sir" Hayden and Aliana said in unison. It would prove to be an interesting partnership indeed...
