Victor waited until Shantal returned to her office, then he buzzed the door for entry.

"Enter."

Victor enters with a smile and a PADD tucked under his right arm. "Commander. I wanted to make a special request. After our mission on Chimera, Starfleet Intelligence had taken custody of the device that Counselor Davem and I had used. Doctor Spencer had asked for us to return the device as it might help Lieutenant Walker."
"I had ran this request by Intelligence and they have no issue with it. The device is currently in Special Requisitions on the Starbase, awaiting your approval of course. I wouldn't want to bring it aboard until you okayed it."

Shantal fixed her obsidian gaze on Victor as she speaks in a more clear, husky, almost musical tone, "What does the device do exactly and how was the doctor hoping to use it to assist Alice?"

Victor cleared his throat. "Well, ma'am, I know you're aware of this but I'm required by regulations to reiterate that the very existence of this device is highly classified."
"With that being said, it basically..." He paused as he searched for a word. "Separates one's consciousness from their body and sends it into another plane of existence." As he spoke, he made a motion with his hand as if turning a door knob. "We call it 'astral projection' for short. The Doctor didn't lay out her plan but I assume that she wants to find the location of the real Alicia Walker. I've used this device before to find... things, so I figure that such a thing is possible."
"If we do bring it on board, we would need to store it in a very secure location. Nobody should be permitted to scan it or otherwise inspect it."

"Maybe it is just me, but using a device we have to pretend does not even exist that is already scheduled to be locked away and forgotten about to look for a dead woman sounds sketchy. Assuming of this is allowed and worked and Alicia is "found", what then?"

Victor shrugged. "If Jackson wasn't already my middle name, it would be Sketch."
"As far as Starfleet Intelligence is concerned, they have no objection to the use of this device for that purpose. We are committed to resolving all of the loose ends left by Project Salvation, and let's face it -- Alicia Walker is one of those loose ends, and perhaps the most important one now that Chorus has been stopped. All that's left is for the command structure of this ship to give the go-ahead."
"As for what we do when we find her... that's another question entirely, and it's not one that I'm equipped to answer. But I would wager that finding the true Alicia Walker will provide many important clues to Lieutenant Walker's nature."

"I see. It is heartwarming to know your "bosses" in Intelligence have no problem with this, though I do not recall asking about that or giving a damn. You are an officer of the Sentinel, thus under my command and that of the 22nd chain of command, just like any other officer."
Shantal's gaze remained steady and showed no emotion as she leaned forward on the desk, "So now we are clear on that, I have to ask why you and I are having this conversation instead of the good doctor?"

He smiled brightly. "Of course I'm clear on that, Commander. That's why I'm here in the first place. In your office, I mean." "As for your second question. I do not know. She seemed very excited over this and so I'm not sure why she wouldn't be banging down your door over it."

"Of course she is apparently /very/ excited and likely involved all the usual suspects."
Shantal leans back in her chair a bit while she cocked her head a little, "Billie Jo knows how to find me and can speak for herself, she hardly needs you to act as her advocate. Is there something else you wanted to discuss, Victor?"

Victor stood there smiling. "I have no other business at this time, Commander. Please let me know when you've made your decision so I can inform Special Requisitions."
