7.) What is your basic character concept & history? See #8 below. Eryx is a Deltan who made the extremely rare step of leaving his homeworld. Now he tries to survive emotionally in a galaxy full of emotionally less advanced species.
8.) Please give a little background about this character.
Eryx is a native of the world of Delta IV, and a medical officer in Star Fleet. His career ambition is to command a medical research vessel and eventually ascend to the ultra-elite medical admiralty.
Eryx doesn't talk about the reasons why he left Delta IV. Due to the emotional and sexual immaturity of other species, Deltans rarely leave their homeworld. Suffice it to say, he struggled to integrate with many of his fellow Deltans. Headstrong, he joined Starfleet practically the moment he turned eighteen, a decision that devastated his parents, both of whom are also physicians.
Now, among non-Deltans, Eryx has still not found the acceptance he craved. His peers are far too sexually fragile for him to form romantic relationships. And Starfleet required him to take an oath of celibacy during his time at the Academy (it is up to individual commanding officers whether or not to require an oath of celibacy from deltan crew members). So he throws himself into his work. His fulfulls his deep, inner need to connect and be intimate with others through his practic of medicine. But always in the back of his mind, at night, when he is all alone, he wonders if he made a terrible mistake.
Eryx is a pacifist. During his Starfleet training, he took only the bare minimum, mandatory combat classes. He can barely tell a bat'leth from a bazooka. As telempaths and lovers of life, Deltans are loath to bring harm to other life forms. The idea of striking or shooting another is horrifying to Eryx. In an emergency, where such actions might be critical and necessary, Starfleet does not know how this young Deltan will react. It has been noted as such in his service record.
