After taking a much-needed break to rest, eat, and worry about Alton. Val was back in the Astrometrics lab with the doors locked. With few persons coming in at the moment, she had the time to begin her decrypting the data with the cipher that Liz provided her. "Okay, Captain Longjohn Elusive, it's time to open this baby up." She activated the standard protection protocols should something nasty be waiting to jump out. Since this was using codes and ciphers from the devious Salvation she was not going to leave anything to chance. She also made a copy of the data just in case this went bust and put it in a safe isolinear chip. That would prevent any hunter killer programs from getting it should they thought of that. Even Elusive was behind a wall of ECM in case something jumped and tried to coop her as well. She would have taken more time to walled off the Astrometrics computer system but someone was waiting to see what was in this data.
"Okay, here goes... run the cipher verse the Tzenkethi data..."

"YAR!" Elusive swung her little wooden sword as she nudged her little cartoon pirate canon over at a door meant to be the entrance to the Tzenkethi data file.
"Squawk! Pieces of Eight!" The little parrot on her tiny pony shoulder cried."Aye Cap'on! I be lightin' the fuze!' The little pny pirate lite her little cannon's fuse and wavd her sword as the cannon went off and blasted through the door to the data. Elusive jumped up on the smoking cannon and snagged a rope line that dangled down from the top of the screen (seemingly out of no where) , the litl Pony Pirate then jumped back and swung through the door waving her little wooden cutlass...
"Arrr Arrr! Fear all ye Data streams...Captain Longjohn Elusive be here to plunder all yer sekrets!"
The screen changed to a more formal cypher decryptions screen as Elusive wandered through row after row of data as it was run through the very rapid and efficient cipher they got from Liz.
"Hmmm....surprisingly empty for a complete Database on a starship...oh well well well now lookie at what i find!"
She noses a file up to show Val that this ship was the three ship squadron that hit Dra'gh 's command ship. All data from each ship computer was purged of old orders and ships logs, in fact the only logs remaining are those made for this mission only. The logs of the officers and captain that do exist show a particular fanaticism for the current government of the Tzenkethi. That although great lengths were gone to to show this as a lone wolf operation, this was in fact an authorized governmental action. However it would seem a majority of strikes similar to the one on Umala that the Sentinel stopped two months ago...and this current one at Dra'gh...were the only two located so far away from near Tzenkethi controlled space...Some
"Here are the Captain's Logs..." Elusive noses those over to Val to open...
As Val goes over the skipper's logs, she sees he is very much worried about something, aside from how far away his mission was from possible Tzenkethi fleet support. He all but questions the wisdom of the target area for his squadron...a squadron he points out with NO cruiser support.
He also seems bothered or spooked by an unnamed thing or presence aboard his ship, he keeps referring to the 'Shadow', almost as if this Shadow was a ship's officer more akin to a political officer. He also referes constantly to the interference to his command to obey his orders to the letter...by something he refers to as the Ministry of Truth...
"Well Um...that isn't too creepy.." Elusive says softly. "I thought Ab-Tzenkethi was ruled by an Autarch and a council of ministers....all based on genetic purity...."
The Litttle Pony Pirate looks to Val. "So...why even have a Ministry of Truth...their genetics define who is the superior one...and as such they have to believe or follow anyways..."
Elusive shakes her head. "It seems a little redundant..."

Val giggled at Elusive as she ran the cipher. It helps burn off the tension of the last few days. She watched the feeds till the cipher did its job. Her frown grows with paragraph she reads. "You're right, elusive, they are ruled by the Autarch and council of ministers; based on genetic disposition. I do not remember there ever being a Ministry of Truth." She taps her chin.
"Speculation; according to everything we have right now and after our talk with Lizz. I suspect an element of Operation Salvation may be involved, some how. It's evident by the so called political officer they had on board the ship. This Shadow must have stood outside their usual genetic line of superiority for a reason.
"It's starting to look like there reasons for being all the way out here for something else. There was a mission here, an important one." Look back to Elusive, "Anything else in there worth looking at?"

Elusive listened to Val and nodded occasionally as she went over what they had.
"Well we do also know from Liz and the records and reports of the Sentinel and Adagio crew who faced Salvation...this Mister Diamond twerp was a mighty big player in it...almost like he was using them to suit his own goals"
Elusive nodded as she was asked for more, she nosed another file out towards Val for her to view.
"This is odd....they carried the same weapons as the squadron that hit the Umala system...but they didn't use them." Elusive shook her head. "We know that much...Here is the thing though..."
The record played the science officer's log..."Here this guy talks about the previous mission...being used as a cover...or distraction....to explain what was supposed to happen here...."
"They killed all of those Umalans....just to cover up whatever they were going after here...." Elusive looks really sad.
"That means...their use of those protomatter weapons out here...has nothing to do with their similar attacks back by DS9....it was a cover up..."

(Continuing this a few days later, but before the big fight at the starbase.)
So they found another creature like K'rika buried in the mine. One who was imprisoned for crimes committed several hundred millennia ago. That's quite the accomplishment to angering some lifeform so bad that they would put someone in suspended animation and torture them for the rest of eternity. Now she was out and on board the ship and her discovery perhaps shed more light on the situation involving the Tzenkathi and the reason for attacking the sector. "So I guess the question is... was the Minister of Truth out here to find her or prevent someone from digging her up? Burning the planet of all life would ensure that she would not be discovered for any one for a long time to come. If that was the case, they failed and we have her." She pauses in thought.
"Then again, burn all life off the planet allows you to go down and get her. There were very hot to keep K'rika when they had her. I'm sure her lose messed up their plans and getting her back would be difficult, next to impossible. So why not go looking for another." She frowns. "These people suck. So now we have both and they have none and that's not really the problem. I'm curious about the Minister of Truth and what happen to him after the battle. Was he still on board when the ships went up, or did he escape? I hate for the Klingon's to have to deal with someone like him if he wound up on their planet."
"So our guest is obviously the focus of their interest. Is there anything else we could be missing at this point with the data we have...?"

Elusive listened to her friend and nodded.
"Yet then never used their weapons on the colony...so maybe they were after her but didn't know where she was just yet..."
The little pirate pony sat and then looked to Val "My guess is we need to know more about this Syndra girl..."
"If we are trying to figure out of they were trying to hide her...or retrieve her"

Val thought, then frown, "Syndra, a nice name. How are we going to learn anything about her? I doubt there is a reliquary of information somewhere in this galaxy with her mug shot on it. We could talk to her, but it feels like she's nervous about everything right now. Plush, I don't speak her language."
Oh, there was a way, but that involved violating her personal ethics and may cause someone's head to explode. There was another way, too. Again, that involved violating something she held of great value to herself; her humanity. It was the lesser evil though. "I wonder if I could talk to her telepathically. Mental speak transcends normal language, but I wonder if she would want to speak in that manner?"

"Um...." The little Pony Pirate mused and with a huff blew some of her mane out of her eyes. "That is very true....there is nothing..not a trace in any database we have that shows a race similar to hers..."
"I mean...at best maybe the Preserver Archive library.., but that got blowed up by the Iconians the same morning they hit Starbase 234 with that surprise attack..."
Elusive looked worried and looked up at Val...
"Val...." she said tentatively to her friend. "Given what we have seen of K'Rika...and bearing in mind Red is one of my close friends aboard ship..."
"Do you really...wanna try to enter this person's mind?"

"I'm not really interested in entering anyone's mind. You know that." Val sighed, that was a busted idea too. "Looks like we're at an impass with this investigation. There is really nothing else for us to follow up on due to the lack of information."

"Well....." Elusive cringed a little. "Not entirely true..."
She watched Val some. "We do have this lead on this unknown Ministry of the Tzenkethi...." She paused some...
"Annnnd we do know someone we just pestered a bit who has um...shall we say considerable intelligence knowledge and contacts...."
She cringed some as she watched Val. "I mean unless you wanna call Liz back...we can always ask well...our intelligence liaison for help?"
"I mean yeah he is a creep but like isn't the turnip on board for reasons like this?"
