The screen came alive to reveal the young ensign sitting in her temporary Romulan quarters on the Tremar Vastaram. Clearly fatigue had settled in already with the darkness around her eyes, but she rubbed one of them with the heel of her palm and exhaled a sigh before she spoke. "Ensign Jillian Dower, personal log..."
"Well, I was never very good at keeping up with my logs, so I guess I might as well start a new one," she murmured, leaning forward onto the surface of her desk with her hand on her cheek to prop herself up. "We're back in the LMC to assist with some invasion force that's en route to the Citadel station. The..." She paused, blinking as she had to think about it for a moment. "Okay, I'll be honest, I don't even know who it is we were fighting. That really wasn't my focus and I don't think anyone even mentioned their names. That doesn't matter, though, because when we engaged we noticed really quickly that they were using a regenerative shield. I mean, that one's pretty easy if you think about it for a minute. They have a substantially lowered shield capacity which is usually made up for by the rapid regeneration. It's just a matter of hitting them as hard and as fast as possible to bring it down before it replenishes, and usually, you know, we'd use some sort of sustained beam on them for that effect. Not really possible in a Romulan warbird, though, but we made due with a series of targeted strikes by the entire wargroup." She sucked in a breath and beamed at the memory. "And it worked! I seriously couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the enemy commander surrendering over the viewscreen, but we captured their ship with minimal damage to ours. Do you even realise what being able to look inside of their ship is going to mean? I have a pretty good feeling about the rest of this invasion."
Jill's grin faltered slightly before she reached back to untie her brown hair, scratching her scalp a bit once it was free. "Then, um, after the battle I noticed that one of the torpedo launchers was damaged from the stress we'd put it through, so I headed out to fix it. Li wanted to come too, he said he knew where they were. Heh..." She looked somewhere off-camera for a moment. "Well, turns it's more like he knew the general direction to go, but I didn't find that out until we were already in whatever the Romulan word for a jefferies tube is. I, uh, kind of got a little anxious in the tube. Totally Li's fault too, I wouldn't have been thinking about what a cramped space we were in if he hadn't brought it up. So then he has the good idea to slide down next to me in the tube and... well, we got stuck." She probably didn't notice that her cheeks were glowing a faint pink as she spoke. "If it was possible to dematerialise myself in that instant, I would've done it without hesitation. So there we were, barely able to keep moving forward without enough space to detach. I still have no idea how he managed to get down next to me but couldn't get out, I've never felt so... intensely awkward in my entire life. It really didn't help that he..." She trailed off and then pinched the bridge of her nose, seeking the strength to finish. "After what seems like forever of being stuck together we made it to the torp launcher. With all the trouble it took to get there, it was a pretty routine repair and we got the hell out of there. So back in the tube, this time making damn sure Li didn't try to squeeze in next to me again."
She groaned. "And then he freaking fell asleep on me again! In the tubes! I mean, what? Does he have some sort of undiagnosed narcolepsy? I had to shake him awake to keep us going, it really wasn't that much further. I don't even want to think about how sore someone'd be after sleeping in that cramped tunnel."
Jill ran her fingers through her hair with a sigh. "I don't know, it's like there's some force out there that seems to delight in tormenting me like this. Is this why some old human cultures personified temptation, because it's easier to assume that something external is what's leading you down a path that you know is wrong with every atom in your body?" She closed her eyes for a long moment before she sighed, "End log..."
