So Val had ushered off from thr others while they tapked with Alan Walker. The man who pretty much started Salvation. Perhaps the final outcome had been out of his hands, she had to wonder if it had been worth it. She could think of other negative examples to reinforce her thoughts; like the Borg. For now this was not her problem.
The sitting room was nice, comfortable. She wonder why she was brought here. Hopefully, to learn more about Unity. That one obsessed goal to learn more about that race. So, while they wait, she played with Elusives scarf.

Monitor led the trio of Val, Elusive and the security officer Karen Baker into the lavishly decorated and quite comfortable sitting room. Decorated in much the same way as the main room beyond, a lovely cross between an old Earth Victorian age setting with the flair of its Noire period of the 1940's. A hint of the mid 23rd century surrounded the various technological consoles and monitors, though clearly these were of the ancient Unity's technology. A wondrous , warm and comfortable blend of the two cultures, almost as if they were compatible by design.
"This shall not take long..." Monitor moved over to a wall console build into what appeared to be a dark oak handcrafted wall cabinet. His tone its usual warm yet precise manner. "It would seem that we will be pressed for time."
As he worked he turned his head around to face his three guests. "May I get you anything to eat or drink, before we begin?"
"I know the weather outside has been quite hostile for your physical conditions."

Elusive sits pretty in Val's lap as the little pony's scarf is toyed with idly. Her little eyes sweep around the room, finding it pleasant to be here. She had accessed with Sery the Project Salvation files that Liz had made public with the Sentinel Crew when they took down the Rogue Element that was being led by a mean AI called M5. It was a sad sad story...for the most part for almost two hundred years the massive Science and Intelligence Project had helped to save heal and protect so many in the Federation. Yet like a cancer growing from within that mean AI corrupted a lot of their work and the agency tore itself apart almost once...a revolt of some of its operatives...
Captain Lizzy it seemed had be one of those that revolted...
...when the truth came out about the Rogues..the mysterious Director ordered the good side of the Project to stand down and turn everything over to Starfleet, the bad guys had to be hunted down by the old Sentinel crew and Captain Lizzy. They had help from the Adagio too it seemed and in the end the M5 bad guys were taken out on this scary spooky moon called Chimera...and then the Director...who it seemed had been secretly behind Salvation all these years...was only doing so to save Alicia his daughter...she died on the Excalibur ...the M5 killed her and a lot of people way back then...
Elusive sighed sadly. All his work to save his daughter...and yes it made Alice...their Alice...and somehow Endel...but in the end he saved his daughter ...she was...wow! Elusive thought. Marveling at the technology involved. However in the end he lost it all and almost lost Alicia and Alice due to the evil M5 meanie...but he saved them somehow...there were no files detailing how he did it....or even really who he was really...Elusive had checked the warrants for him....they were for inquiries....and attempts to place all the blame on him...seems like a lot of Politicians and Admirals lost their jobs too..
They seemed sooo mad at the old man now...but he was just a daddy in pain...
The little pony looked up at Val, remembering the pain her best friend was going through when they first met. Elusive snuggled her some more gently at this. There wasn't anything the little pony wouldn't do to make sure Val was never in such pain again....
Food??? Elusive looked over at Monitor's offer and said before Val could stop her
"Cupcakes???"

Val wa about to decline, but Elusive beat her to the punch. Thinking about it foe a moment, she said, "hot chocolate to. It's really cold out there."
Something warm would hopefully calm hed fidgeting. Then a curious thought cane and Val asked, "forgive me if too forward, but are one of the Unity, monitor?"

Monitor could not help but to smile at the almost child like enthusiasm Elusive displayed for cupcake. Whatever he had been working on, he began its process and turned to the room's elegant replicator and gracefully headed over to it. He nodded politely to Val. "Of course Hot chocolate it shall be then." He looked over to the security officer. "And for you as well Miss?"
Baker, though still very much vigilant nodded with a small smile, charmed by Monitor's demeanor. "Yes, please Monitor. It does sound like it would hit the spot about now."
Monitor smiled to her as well and ordered up an order of cupcakes and hot chocolate for all three.
Monitor moved a small table stand over to Ensign Baker and provided her with a cupcake on a small dish and a cup of hot chocolate with little marshmellows. He then walked over and did the same for Elusive and Val. He canted his head some at her inquiry as he poured out Val's nice hot drink. The air was filled with a lovely warm chocolate aroma as he answered her...
"Oh no Miss Val." He said politely. "I am but a construct in their employ. Very similar in nature if not in purpose to your new friends, your "Pixies"."
He rose before them and waited as if ensuring the cupcakes and chocolate were to their liking.
"I was created in their image to help make comfortable those that may have a use for this network, well when it was operational. I am what in your terms you would deem a user interface for the primary operating system of this network facility." His sapphire back-lit eyes moved down to watch Elusive joyfully pounce on and nommie her cupcake...her little pony snout now cover in bits of cupcake, icing and sprinkles....
"Oh dear..Would any of you require a napkin, it was thoughtless of me not to provide one..."

Val marveled at Monitor design as he explained, "A user interface that's also your host; I like it. In the galaxy where I come from, we've been slowly working towards the same thing. In this case, like Elusive, holographic constructs." When Monitor asks if they like napkins, "oh yes, please. Elusive becomes rather less graceful when she has cupcakes." She gives her companion a playful smirk. She sips the hot chocolate and savors the flavor of the warm fluid. "This is good. Did the Director provide you the recipe? Then again, do they have a hot chocolate recipe in this galaxy already? Would make sense if they did, provided they had similar ingredients." Val pauses as she notices she's rambling. "Sorry, distracted.
Moving to a topic, the important one. "Sooo, you mentioned there was memeber of the Unity here. Are they in stasis?"

Monitor smiled and retrieved a lovely cloth napkin for the messy cupcake enthusiast pony, as well as one for both Baker and finally for Val. Her host politely nodded. "Indeed Miss, the Director has been most kind in allowing me to study your people's progress in such areas of endeavours. You are making wonderful progress...respecting such entities as such for their service and showing such kindness and compassion. If i may be so bold, the Unity was much in the same way with me as you are with your little companion."
Again the wondrous machine before her smiled and nodded answering each inquiry in turn. "Why yes, though I do believe this particular recipe if of the Madame's choosing. Madame Alicia has a fondness for this blend of cinnamon."
"The Unity and many of such races known to them do or did indeed have a comparable beverage such as this blend of your drink. I must admit I too share a fondness for this particular drink." Monitor shakes his head to her continuing. "It is all right Miss, and inquisitive mind is one that is most active...I do not mind such inquiries."
Monitor looked back a moment to check on the process he had underway before looking back to Val.
"Why yes we do indeed have a single member of the Unity that remained behind once it was determined the Unity's position here was no longer tenable." he nodded to her once more. "She is indeed in stasis..and dreaming peacefully."
"It is her consciousness that is currently processing the data stream I am impart onto you." Monitor said and then added with a note of sadness in his voice.
"I do know for a fact Aynila was looking forward to meeting the currently caretaker of the surviving 'Pixies'. She was impressed by your compassion and kindness to our littlest ones."
"It is she who oversees and protects the Cisterna with the Director, Madame and I"

Val used offered napkin to wipe at Elusive muzzle. She smiled and listen to the Monitor as he talked about their progress. "We try. Sometimes we may falter but we're quick to remedy and do the right thing. Thank you for the kind words."
Monitor looked back a moment to check on the process he had underway before looking back to Val.

Val excitement grew as Monitor explained that yes, a member of the UNITY was here. Finally, actual confirmation that one of the missing members of that race is still active. Preserved and even aware of what is going on. "How? How is she able to run this system. Sure, I know the Pixies are helping and of course you. Is there a greater network that she is tied too to help with the process? I would imagine that there would be more of the UNITY here to help her.
"My, experience, with large network tend to need more person connected to make it work properly." Even a small Borg installation tend to have more drones on hand then they even needed to run it; spare circuits in case one was used up and then discarded. "She was looking forward to meeting me. I would like to meet her if that is at all possible."

Monitor bowed his head gracefully. "You are most welcome Miss Val.""If am to understand you correctly in reference to these Borg, their approach is quite efficient yet lacks a soul." Monitor responded gently. "A cold and calculating approach that while efficient leaves little room for individual adaptation to simplistic needs and variables."
The machine sadly shook its head. "A pity, it would seem these Borg lost their connection to their biological purpose and uniqueness." He turned to regard Val and Elusive. "What I mean is take for instance your duality with your holographic companion. I am sure these Borg as they have been described to me would find such a pairing to be frivolous and unnecessary..."
"Yet even I, a simple mechanism of purpose in the Unity can already ascertain the connection ....or emotional bond between the two of you is a statistical boon to your individual and unified productivity." He smiled.
"Why else would your friend be authorized to accompany you on such an important exploration mission. " He nodded to them both. "You see the Unity believed that emotional individuality offered a unique strength to the hive mentality of the Unity as a whole...while the Unity was naturally important so were its individual parts...the sum was equal to the whole...and Unity of harmony..of efficiency and of individual expression."
"The Director has shared with me an human expression that parallels the thesis of the Unity at its peak..and I quote...'One heart , one mind...one goal...one soul.'" He nodded. "These Borg unfortunately took this path to a cold and heartless extreme..." He shook his head sadly once more.
"No member of the Unity was ever forced or coerced into being a part of the whole...if they wished to not participate..they found purpose working alongside...outside of the Unity...while still in the service of others. Working together still while apart from the Whole..."
"And the Unity was stronger for it..." Monitor said with no small degree of pride in his voice. "Cybernetic, Biological or simply Mechanical...together within...or apart on the outside..." He smiled. "Together or apart in harmony."
"A Unity"
He then held up his hand. "Forgive me for prattling on and for not answering your question directly...Aynila was of course not the only survivor left behind at this base when the Unity was forced into transcension near the conclusion of the 'Dark Conflict'. However in time she remained the only one left in existence at this facility...she is more than capable of running what remains of this outpost...however even maintaining this small pocket of the facility is a great strain on her. The Bunker colony of nanites and I, as well as now Madame Alicia and her father are of great help to her...but we are not enough to aid her in the taking of the next step of 'The Work'."
"As for your other question Miss Val...indeed yes...the 'Greater Network' still lies beyond this place, criss crossing dormant throughout the stars..this is but one control hub that still remains in existence..."
"The Greater network of the Unity...sleeps until such time as 'The Work' can be completed..." He then turned to the console as it chirped and a long stream of alien symbols and numbers streamed by rapidly. Monitor walked over to it and extended his hand palm up into it..."You see Miss Val...this is why Aynila called to you...to your doctor, your pilot and more specifically....to you."
As he spoke a sapphire blue cube seemingly made of crystal formed in the smooth palm of his hand...the stream of data seemed to flow into it...making it glow softly."
Monitor walked back over to Val and Elusive, he seemed to immediately notice Varel's guard, Ensign Baker tense and her fingers gripped her rifle tighter. "Please Miss Karen, this is merely a small holographic dimensional memory storage device...it is not threat to those you protect. I would be incapable of harming any of you...nor would i wish too..even if not prevented by my programing.."
Baker offered politely but stayed vigilant "No offense sir...just my job."
"I understand Miss Karen...truly I do." He smiled to her before he offered it once more to Val. His tone still warm and pleasant though a hint of personal excitement that he was a part of some new beginning.
"With this Miss Val...once you decode, decipher and decrypt...with this you will find what you seek...what you and your people, your alliance should alone have access too..."
"Accept this and your part in 'The Work' shall now begin..."

Val resisted bile like urge to explain her feelings on the topic of the Borg. Their actions were not cold and calculating but evil. If she had no promised the surviving members of the Omega Team that had unplugged her, she would tell him the extent the Borg pursuit of perfection would have taken them. No, she focused on the rest of what Monitor was saying. The good parts about the UNITY the thing she hopes they were about. It seems too good to be true and perhaps it was. Maybe she did idolize them to a point after trying to learn so much about them. They were as close to a level of perfection due to how the interacted with each other. Biological and machine incorporation but still with the level of individuality that societies depended on to thrive. When he went back to Aynila she had a feeling she was not going to meet the UNITY being just yet. If she was that busy trying to hold the facility together there would be no way to ask her to step away talk with Val. That smell feeling of unworthiness brushed against her feelings and she pushed it away.
"I'm sorry no one else could come and help her. I know this galaxy has suffered a great deal since the Dark Conflict. I only hope that we're able to assist in helping the races that are still here."
She sat up a higher in the seat, listening to Monitor explain the work still ongoing. So there was a greater network at one time. With all the destruction it would not surprise her if the extent of the disrepair was great. Still, someone was still working on getting it running again. Sure they made little progress after two million years, but no one expected the whole galaxy to get rekt as it did.
She smiled to Baker, hoping to ease her escort mind. She would not blame her for being cautious about the glowing blue box. Val eyes could pick up snippets of data floating around inside, too small to decipher physically. This would take a lot of processor power to go through and make sense of it. Well, as long as nothing bad happens to her physically she should not have any problems with getting it all figured out. Once she had it stored properly she could use the ship's computers, Sery, and Elusive to figure out what needed to be done.
The question that lingers in her thoughts though, was she worth that kind of trust. "Monitor, I'm so humbled that Aynilla and you think so highly of me. I'm just a simple science officer that just started to chase a few clues to the UNITY when we arrived in the galaxy. I'm sure there are a lot of more qualified persons," She wanted to say 'and people complete with their own original parts' but left that off, "would do help with bringing your 'Work' to a successful completion. I mean, I'm smart, but, I need supervision sometimes less I get distracted... you know..." Mumbling, "I don't feel worthy to help you."
So perked back up, realizing she was making a fool of herself. She looked at the cube of wonderful potential. "So, I can probably find someone to help with that.
