((The Following is to represent a continuation of the transcript of meetings in Sickbay, USS Pilgrim - Stardate 95916))
Participants:
-- Dahlia leans back in her chair, bites her lip and stares at the ceiling. --
So many damned questions. Computer, Chai, hot and sweet.... please.
And Computer; please request the EMH, Dr. McCoy to come to my office for a sit-down.
-- The computer chirps negative. --
What, oh.. I hate this ... I don't like summoning him like he doesn't have a choice when I'm inviting him... OH, oh well... Computer; activate the EMH.
-- She watched for the computer-generated image of Dr. McCoy resolve in the office. She gestured to the chair as he announced himself. Dahlia had been thinking about this conversation for more than a week. She knew it had to be done, but she dreaded it. She had been wrong, and she knew it. --
"I have something to say to you, and I'd like you to have a seat and listen. When I am finished, I will listen to what you have to say in return. We will have a conversation and not ignore the past."
"Doctor McCoy, that is the only name I have known you by since meeting you. When I met you, I sensed in you a presence, which I assumed to be that of a life form and not a machine. It has been my assumption in all that time that even when you are not active in the physical world that you are active in a world, possibly of your own design, within the computer.
In our last meeting, you asserted that you are only an EMH. I reject that. First of all, you are greatly altered from a standard EMH, I've checked into your history and upgrades. You are constructed from the LMH base, and given some rather advanced personality constructs. You were active an extended time, during which you absorbed an incredible amount of input.
I have treated you like a Starfleet officer under my command. I have tried to treat you as a person but you keep insisting that you are not. The fact that you do this is possibly a proof that you are not correct. Either way, you made me angry in our last interaction and I went too far. I apologize for even suggesting that you be reset to base programming.
I have been researching and trying to learn all I can about your situation.
