Historians Note, this takes place in the hours awaiting the borg sphere at Beryxia.
Zala Kiyal took the last bite of the carrot cake as she stared through the window of the messhall. She occupied the same tabel she had done so when she served on this ship. The table she had shared with Mara. At least one in the same position. The truth was this Pilgrim wasn’t the same. Little things were out of place. The mess was rearranged. The Bulkheads in the corridors replaced. Even the consoles in the science lab were configured differently. There was a feeling that permeated the air as she walked on board. The feeling you get when you go to a childhood home now owned by someone else. The frame is the same but it’s just not right.
She watched as the phasers cycled silently like beacons in the night. Each shot stopping an encroaching tendril of death from a nightmare, the purest form of biological weapon. She sighed, Well father, it turns out that sometimes the ends do justify the means. She thought on the perversion of science used to build the weapon to combat the Blight. I guess I am more like you than I want to admit. She got up from the seat. As she turned she saw Doctor Asimova conversing with the Borg. Of course, everyone likes Sara. She left the mess without a word.
Her footsteps even sounded different. The floor material changed. She had heard the Pilgrim had nearly been scrapped after Bajor but the reality of how much the ship had changed set in with each footfall. She walked to the turbolift and entered. Taking it down to Astrometrics. She let a small smile escape as she walked through the door.

“I just don’t understand why I can’t let it go?” the bajoran moved a piece on the board. “ I mean, I am pregnant. He obviously chose me…” Zala smiled at her friend and took advantage of her mistake on the board.
“Please Mara, every woman thinks their man is looking for someone else. Besides have you seen the Commander’s ass? Can you blame anyone for looking?” Zala smirked and sipped the Kanar, the starlight of the astrometrics screen bathing her friends face.
The bajoran sighed, “You aren’t helping you know.”
“What are friends for?” Zala finished the game victorious. “Anyway I need to go check on some things. We have a few hours before showtime. Talk later?”
The bajoran smiled, “Yeah, I have some names to run by you.”
Zala smirked, “ Zala for a a girl and Zal for a guy, and you are set.” She hugged Mara and left.

Zala wiped her eyes. “That was the last time we talked. You know Jax is with someone new. Finally. I mean sure there was Nyoko but we knew that wouldn’t work.” Zala spoke to the empty room. “The new girl, well she’s an astronomer too. A trill named Eren. I think he’s finally able to let himself be in a relationship. Oh and Bren, I wish you could know her, she’s so much more now. A musician, a creator, and probably the best stellar cartographer in starfleet.” Zala touched the cool metal of a console and scanned for a program… she launched it. The room darkened and the image of the celestial temple was shown. She sat before it and watched it for awhile.
