Ross shakes his head.
"The man is more than corrupt, Verdaan. He's dangerous. If he continues down this path..."

Ross' scowl is evident as he appears on the viewscreen.
"I've been better. I've reviewed the communications you sent to me from T'Grav...he is barking up the wrong tree. And have you read the latest reports from the Adagio?"

The ready room of the Farragut is dead quiet. Only the soft hum of the ship's engines can be heard as William Ross sits at his desk, pouring over what Admiral Arak had sent him regarding T'Grav's inquiries into Project Avalon. Ross had been observing the Chairman's actions since the oversight hearings began in the wake of Project Salvation's dissolution. He could remember how thrilled he felt when he learned that those behind the project would be brought to justice...and how very different he felt reading over what the Chairman is doing now. His scowl only increases as he reaches the end of the current communication between the two. Ross operates his console for a moment and shortly the youthful face of Lieutenant Catherine Baker fills his screen.
"Sir?"
"Open up a secure subspace link to Admiral Arak Verdaan. Route the comm to my ready room."
"Yes sir."

The angelic one has re-examined this character sheet and deems it fit for purpose.

Ross looks up from him at his desk.
"What do you need from me?"

The commanding officer of the U.S.S. Stuart, Commander Donald Johnson, sat in his chair on the bridge as the ship approached the unknown freighter. The Stuart was able to visually ID the ship as the SS Nova. Johnson had ordered an away team to investigate the fate of ship's crew as he reviews their last known crew manifest, going over the names and faces. No lifesigns were detected as they approached, just as the report from the Pilgrim indicated. The operations officer on duty for the Stuart, Ensign Shahr, turns to face the Commander.
"Sir...Lieutenant Commander Rohan is contacting us from the ship."
"Onscreen."
The viewescreen is filled with Rohan and the rest of the away team. Based on their eyes, the viewer can tell they have seen death.
"Sir...we have accounted for every member of their crew. They are all dead. Doctor Johnson's preliminary report indicates cascading organ failure, but he cannot find a cause for this."
"Understood, Commander. Return to the ship when you have completed your analysis, I will expect a full report from the Doctor on this incident."
"Yes sir."
"Stuart out."
The commander sat back in his chair as the transmission ended. What could possibility have caused all these people to die in this fashion? Whatever it was, he wasn't going to have the Stuart stick around long enough to experience the same fate.

Ross stands on the bridge of the Farragut as the transmission with the Pilgrim ends. The disappointment in his face is evident. He understood the captain's position. And he made it a point not to reprimand the captain in front of her crew...despite what he may feel, the decision was hers to make. But to not even investigate a distress call...Ross walks over to his chief of operations, Lieutenant Catherine Baker.
"Lieutenant...coordinate with the Pilgrim's operations team. Forward the last known coordinates of that freighter to the Stuart and instruct them to investigate. Advise to proceed with caution."
"Aye sir, right away sir."
Ross walks right past Baker into his ready room as the crew of the Farragut carries out his orders.
