Veeri sat on her bed in the Valla’s sword’s quarantine section, hair slightly disheveled from the deep sleep she’d rewarded herself with after the zombie incident. She waved to the image of Reila on her PADD, then hung up once their conversation was over, plopping her head back on the pillow and stretching out like a lazy cat, humming delightedly. She reached out for her PADD again and pressed the recording button, speaking quietly.
“Personal Log, Lieutenant Veeri Relidia, stardate… oh, who cares, the PADD will assign the right stardate automatically in the log’s digital signature anyways.” She chuckled. “So. Artesia’s open, and a relief force is coming in. The Tannies are running with their tails between their legs, the Chantry are holed up in their shelters, and the Coln are begging for peace. Not bad for two years’ worth of war, I’d say.” She sighed and lowered her voice some. “It is a shame that it had to come to this. But I am proud to have been part of this. I won’t lie, listening to reports of the chaos that has gripped the enemy forces is… very satisfying.”
The trill watched one of her new quarantine roomies – a short Kahti with a light blue carapace scuttle off to the bathroom and smiled to herself. “Can’t really celebrate any wins yet, seeing that I’m kind of stuck in quarantine after taking part in an attack destroying a crucial tannie station that was –also- infected with a zombie virus. Luckily for me, it turns out I am –very- good with a flamer.” She giggled. “I really must have missed my calling in life, having a thing so powerful in my hands and burning everything in my path was… refreshing. And… well. I am glad we could give peace to the people affected by it.” She tapped her fingers on the side of the PADD.
“Quarantine isn’t so bad, though, seeing as I’m on the Valla’s sword. Reila’s as perfect as ever, even if we can’t really see each other in person, and I made some interesting new friends. A couple of Kahti, an Odassian Veldbebel named Zanerya with the most gorgeous hair with those little bioluminescent pods they have in the most beautiful crimson… oh, I should probably dye my hair red someday… And Lieutenant Hrein who claims he can trace his heritage all the way back to the war two million years ago… It’s crazy how much the Kzari have changed since we arrived here. We have helped so many. I pray to the Maker that with the end of this war, we may see better times ahead for the Tannies too. If anything, I want to see the emperor pull his hair out as he signs the peace treaty. Hope they record it.” Veeri grinned and stood up, stretching out as she heard her belly grumble. “Gotta eat. End log.”
