If that is the case, another reason to skip it.

I liked the trailer, but very disappointed that it looks like it's set in the JJverse 😔

I'm just a little pissed off about the Klingon. They are so screwing this up.

They already screwed the pooch on this one by going for another "pre-Trek" series. They could have done wonders by setting the show after all the other Trek shows. But, then they would have had to come donw on the side of the prime star trek universe or the JJ-verse in terms of which universe to set it in.. Had they gone with the JJ-verse they could have done a STTNG "reboot." Which would have been interesting.

I mean, I'm seeing a lot of issues with the trailer too, but remember that a LOT of people said the exact same stuff about TNG. You know, aside from the fact that it's set 10 years before TOS. IMO, that's the dumbest time period they could've picked for a noticeably newer show. I still think they should've gone with a future show, set 30-40 years in the future from where Nemesis left off. It could potentially coincide with STO, feature the Enterprise-F with Captain Shon and friends, and have cameos from TNG, DS9, and Voyager crew who are now highly-placed or retired. That would have tied everything together and given people more incentive to play (i.e. "this is just one of the stories you could experience in Star Trek Online").

Sooooo much wrong with that trailer and shows just how little they want to respect the fans of the old show and just play on nostalgia. My Dad cant get by the fact that the Discovery Uniforms all bear the Delta insignia which starfleet never adopted until the TOS movie era. If this is ten years before TOS, the ship should have its own unique insignia. -smh- There are more and more that some folks just assume are trek canon but turn out to be just troupe(ie kirk sleeping with every woman he meets. -rolls eyes-) It's the little details that end up piling up when one doesn't care or pay attention to surface things/troupes only and tries to get by on such. I've said it before and agree with all who have said if they wanted to do trek and put their own creative spin on it....keeping going forward in time....star trek is always about moving forward into the unknown and uncertain future. This is a cheap money grab and boy howdy is it starting to show I be sad kitty

The problem with "prequels" in general is that the more developed the lore is for an IP the more hemmed the story line becomes. Unless you want to ignore continuity all together, but that just pisses off the fans. Example we all knew how Rogue One had to end before the story was even written. I agree they should have set the show in a later time period as opposed to a earlier one, as that would have given the writers maximum creative freedom. They don't necessarily have to follow the exploits of the Enterprise, there are plenty of other ships in the fleet.

Yeah the only prequel that I think could have been neat and would benefit from today's effects would have been a romulan war one. But then it would be more battlestar galactica than traditional Trek exploration. They should have went in the future then everything can have its own creative look without pissing off fans because it doesn't match what is supposed to be in the era they chose plus you aren't constrained by matching cannon historical events like you've said. You could even explain away the Klingon travesty they have going on as a long term generational side effect of the "corrective" gene therapy that returned them to their not human with wicked eye brows TOS look. Doesn't really matter at this point though because I firmly believe it will flop because of their insistence of tying it to their streaming service. Hell I have let my Netflix subscription go for now because of lack of things to watch besides mediocre old movies meh TV shows and a bunch of crappy sci fi channel movie of the week level crap on it. If they think someone like me would pay a monthly fee to watch ONE show a week for a few months a year (or binge watch the season in days if that's a option) one that they have so little confidence in that they will not put it on their own TV channel they are out of their minds.

I do what I normally do, wait for it to come out on amazon prime, because it will. All the netflix series can be purchased there at my leisure (i won't till they come up with something I want to watch). I'm disappointed though, the only series I was really into at one point was DS9, but I missed a lot because I went overseas.

Am I the only one who thinks lens flares interferes with the visuals, not add to them?
Seriously, it FEELS LIKE A CAMERA IS THERE WHEN YOU ADD LENS FLARES! It completely takes away from the feeling of "being there". My eyeballs do not create tiny circle holograms when I look towards light.
