"Due to the nature of cooperative play, there will be times where teams are uneven. They will balance out automatically as additional players join or leave."

"You'd think you would be able to use holograms to balance it out..."

"That feature is not currently available in this version on the beta test," the program replied.

Jon rolls his eyes.
"Please take me to Logical Fallacy."

The door slid shut behind him, leaving Jon in that empty wasteland.
“You will be connected to the subspace network in approximately ten seconds. You cannot be defeated for points until an additional ten seconds have passed after you connect. Good luck.”
There would be no reply to anything else he would say after that point, and when those initial ten seconds were over, the map came to life in front of him. The groups fighting at the top of the ravine had moved since Varel had arrived earlier and were now down below engaging in more close-quarters combat. There were still a handful of people on the top shooting at those down below from the relative safety there. However, according to the pip on his visor, 'Logicalfallacy26' was nowhere near those groups. Instead, she appeared to be located about three hundred meters to his left, presently out of sight due to the slope of the terrain.

Jon moves to stealthy approach Varel, observing the conflict occurring in front of them.

As he moved he could see Varel's score steadily increasing on his HUD. As he grew closer he could see a rickety-looking tower positioned next to a of dead tree, its bone-like branches providing a measure of cover for occupants.
The calming blue of his visor suddenly turned red. PROXIMITY ALERT flashed before his eyes, but it seemed to last only a second before there was the sound of weapons discharge, followed by the HUD returning to its usual state. Varel had one more point.
"Lieutenant Cameron, thank you for joining me. I am up in the tower," Varel's cool, impassive voice spoke in the ear he had placed the device on.

"Understood, I am on my way."
Jon climbs up to the top of the tower.

Varel was crouched in the corner when he got to the top, the barrel of her sniper rifle extended over the edge of the window. He could see her username and title hovering over her head.
She looked up only momentarily when he arrived. "I trust that you have oriented yourself to this simulation?"

"Somewhat."
Jon crouches down behind the window as well.

They had a remarkable view of the map, particularly a platform on one side of the top of the ravine that glowed blue. Sitting atop it was a flagpole bearing an azure standard that flapped in a nonexistent breeze.
"The finer details are still under development. However, one can still carry out the objective adequately." As she spoke, they could see a woman with a red username over her head sprinting toward the flagpole.
"Would you like to try, Lieutenant?" she asked, motioning to the sniper rifle.

Jon grabs the sniper rifle and takes a deep breath in before he fires on the woman.
