The first target was about to make a dash for the flag when the shots rang out, causing him to stay behind his crate. Meanwhile Varel's target seemed to grow bold, assuming that there was only one shooter and that they were focused on his fellow. Just as he got to the platform Varel was on him, firing off a single round. The other player's head was knocked back momentarily, a golden text scroll reading "Headshot!" flitting across her visor before he vanished from sight. The first target peeked his head out over the crate ever so slightly, giving Jon a sliver of opportunity.

Jon eagerly takes the opportunity, firing repeatedly.

The golden "HEADSHOT!" scroll rolled across his visor as one of the shots hit, the other player managing to flip a double bird over the top of the crate before he vanished.
"Well done," Varel noted as she scanned the zone for additional players.

"Be on alert. I believe we have caught someone's attention," Varel told him, her rifle swiveling away to focus on the ascent up the hill toward their sniper tower. "They may attempt to eliminate us and provide a window of opportunity for their flag runners."

"Well we should lay a trap for them then."

Varel nodded at that. "I have land mines at my disposal, if we set them up at the base of the tower, then not only will we be alerted to their presence before our devices can, but any attackers will be damaged immediately."

"Seems logical, Lieutenant."

Varel didn't even acknowledge his reply before she pulled her rifle from the window, vaulting right over the side. She landed easily on the dead ground, tapping her visor again.
"Computer, mine deployment mode," she requested, aiming her rifle right outside of the tower door. 'Ten mines available,' flashed across her visor as she squeezed the trigger. Instantly an indicator appeared on the ground, signaling that a friendly mine had been deployed. She aimed a meter or two away, beginning to build an arch of mines around the first one.
Meanwhile Jon could see about three members of the red team approaching, notably the same woman that they'd gunned down twice leading the charge.

Jon watches the team members approaching. If they continue straight into the trap he does not fire; however, if they appear to deviate from the path he fires on the group.

Varel glanced up as she saw the attackers getting close, one raising their rifle and firing off a shot at her. She turned and immediately went back into the tower, taking the shot to one of her shoulders. A single bar of her health vanished; being as high level as she was did have its advantages.
The group began to sprint after her, so focused upon their quarry that they didn't have the sense to check for the minefield. Several of them exploded at once, completely demolishing the woman's healthbar and prompting a muted screech to rip forth from her lips. Thankfully, cross-team communication was disabled in the beta. The other two had significant chunks of health taken off of them, though one immediately touched his visor to utilise a health pack and shot back up to about 80% life.

The attacker who hadn't had the presence of mind to use a medpack was immediately taken out, stomping his feet in frustration before vanishing. The other was hot on Varel's trail, leaping over the threshold into the sniper tower with his rifle raised. Varel had nearly made it to the top of the ladder at that point, and was subsequently hit with a volley just before she pulled herself up to the second floor. Her health bar showed her at about thirty percent as she set herself up in the corner again, her weapon pointed straight at the top of the ladder.
"Do not forget to keep watch of the flag," she reminded him nonchalantly.

Jon nods and turns his attention back to the flag.

When Jon turned to look, however, he would find the platform empty.
Varel remained motionless, her finger on the trigger.
