"The Director of..." Victor trailed off for a second before looking very intently at Jon. "You met the Director of Project Salvation?"
Victor blinked. "I guess I didn't know the half of what went on with this ship..."

Victor swished the liquid in his glass around as he listened. After several long moments of just looking at Jon, he put his glass down and leaned forward with a serious expression on his face.
"I knew about your brother. At least, a little bit. You'd be surprised at what a diplomatic pass can get you. As for everything else... I had no idea." He sighed and looked down for a moment before looking at Jon.
"This may sound like a stupid question, but... are you sure? About Alice, I mean. I've met cybernetic beings before... they were nothing like she is. I wouldn't have even guessed unless you told me. How could such a thing be possible? And who could create such a being? I'm not doubting you... I'm just... confused."

Vic leaned back in his chair, glass in hand. "I suppose I don't. At the very least, I know what was in the leaked files. And I read the mission reports... at least, the ones that I was permitted to access. I can't imagine what's it's been like."

"For what it's worth," he said, "I believe you." He sipped some of the scotch. "But these kinds of misunderstandings happen. Not much you can do about it other than ride it out, I guess."
Vic looked at Jon for a second before switching gears.
"I have to admit, I read up on all the leaked Salvation files before I came on board. It must have been remarkable to be part of the crew that took it all down. Do you feel any... different?" Vic looked at Jon intently as he sipped.

Vic smiled. "What, you think you can bottle up hundreds of people in a tin can and avoid this kind of stuff?"
"For what it's worth, I just happened to be passing by your quarters at the right -- or should I say, wrong time. I don't think people are gossiping behind your back. Well, if they are, they're not telling me about it."

Victor chuckled and shrugged. "Flirting is fun. I'm not the kind to settle down, anyway." He recalled Admiral Compton's threat before continuing. "I've done that before and it didn't end well."
"You must be some kind of casanova if you have Walker and Decia fighting over you like that." Vic smirked and sipped his scotch.

Victor poured two glasses of scotch as Jon spoke.
"Ah, speaking of Alice, how is she?" He raised one of the glasses to Jon as an offer. "You know..." Vic chuckled, "I didn't know she was your fiancee until recently. Had a discussion with Doctor Spencer about it. If I had known earlier, I might not have, ah, conducted myself as I did." Vic smiled at Jon.

Victor nodded and seemed to brighten up at the fact that Jon recognized the player. He began to pour a couple glasses.
"That's right, Jon. It just so happens that the prior occupant had left it behind. My God, though, they left some creepy music." He chuckled and motioned toward the vinyl record that was still propped up next to the record player. It was labeled 'One More Kiss Dear.'
"I know the audio system that's built into the quarters is technically much higher fidelity, but there's something about the imperfections of these old records that give it character. Wouldn't you agree?"

Vic doesn't flinch at the door chime. "Come in!"
Vic's quarters were still relatively empty. A few paper books laid on the shelf. There was a small liquor cabinet filled with a variety of liquors, but Vic had a bottle of Jonnie Walker Blue and a couple glasses out on his table. The table itself was unremarkable -- a few PADDs here and there, and a computer. Vic was sitting behind his desk.
An old-fashioned record player was on in the background, playing very softly.
"Have a seat," Vic said as he motioned toward the couch near the window.

Victor replied:
=/\= Of course. Come to my quarters, I've got a very good scotch here.

Cameron could hear the clinking of a glass in the background.
=/\= Thanks to fate or circumstance, we've never talked outside of a handful of awkward situations. I'd like to get to know our helmsman a little better.

Victor grumbled as he put down the PADD after reading Admiral Compton's latest response. He poured himself another scotch before tapping his communicator.
=/\= Lieutenant Cameron, do you have a moment to chat?
