TO: Starfleet Intelligence FROM: Lt. Victor J. Springfield, Esq. / Intelligence Officer, USS Sentinel RE: Experimental Particle Beam Weapon Review
To whom it may concern,
In response to a recent infestation of hostile, non-corporeal beings on the Starship Sentinel, I replicated the latest version of an Experimental Particle Beam Weapon known by an internal intelligence classification of AV-91-P. This weapon was originally designed by Helios Labs on Starbase 33 to contain energy beings who are not completely present on the physical plane. It was refined by engineers aboard the Starship Pilgrim and proved to be effective for this purpose. (SEE FILE: Choral Sea of Storms)
I found that the weapon was difficult to control in close-quarters scenarios. The particle emitter suffers from significant recoil and the beam itself seems to be somewhat inaccurate, winding in a complicated corkscrew pattern. The particle accelerator, which is contained within the backpack module, is heavy and unwieldy.
While the high-energy discharge created by this weapon is effective in subduing non-corporal entities as per the Pilgrim's report, the weapon nevertheless causes significant damage in the physical world and nearly resulted in the death of our Chief Medical Officer. I recommend that Starfleet Intelligence find some way to limit its effects only to non-corporeal entities as to make it safer for use in the field.
As always, I am
Very Truly Yours,
Lt. Victor J. Springfield

Victor looked skeptically at the three.
"I'm going to assume you're all some kind of hallucination. But in case you aren't..." He shook his head. "Sorry for shooting you, Doc. I just wanted to be the hero for once, you know?" Victor sighed and looked up at the twins.
"And what are you two on about? Pretender to the throne? This is worse than the time I accidentally ate those mushrooms on Sigma Prime."

It was at this time that Victor rounded the corner of the corridor, coming to an abrupt halt as he saw Billie and the twins. He was wearing a uniform with a silver division stripe; that of his former employer, Project Avalon.
"Oh... you're here too?" He spoke as he looked toward Billie.
"And... you two, as well." Victor eyeballed the twins.
"I guess today is full of surprises."

Victor shrugged.
"I have some contacts at Starfleet Intel... I can ask around, maybe have some of them look into it. But the bottom line is that we need some kind of data to analyze. If the Captain approves, I'm sure we can probe around under cloak, maybe find a Tzenkethi asset. Maybe a communication array or something. When it comes to computer system intrusion, there's nobody on the Sentinel with a higher rating than myself... and not a whole lot of people outside the ship have that kind of rating either. I'm sure I can get in and find something useful."
"Otherwise, we'll have to work with what we have -- which is probably not much. The intel database is broad, but it might not have much useful information. We need to get it right from the source."

Victor sighed and sipped from his glass of Chateau Picard.
"It wouldn't surprise me. Project Salvation did accumulate an impressive rogue's gallery. The name of the position itself suggests an influence familiar with Terran politics. It also suggests that this crumb was planted there for a reason."
"You see, Lieutenant, if Project Salvation was good at anything -- it was covering their tracks. Over the course of over a hundred years, their stock-in-trade was secrecy. A massive, independent organization which amounted to a type of shadow government existed for years with much of the Federation blissfully unaware. I don't think a participant in that Project would make such a glaring error."
"I can look into it, but I may need a data dump from a Tzenkethi computer. You may not know it, but I'm tremendously skilled in the field of computer science. I might be able to find something useful."

((Sorry I tend to miss things
In a few moments, there was a "ding dong" at the door. Once Val let him inside, she would instantly notice that Victor's hair is even more meticulously styled than usual, and his goatee is freshly trimmed. He smells of English Leather cologne, and in his hand is a bottle of fine wine. The label indicated that it was a bottle of Chateau Picard, bottled in 2387.
He smiled. "Good evening, Lieutenant. Such a pleasure to be here."

So I forgot it's my fathers birthday tonight. I gotta go get him a cake. Can one of my lovely DGM associates do a social please?

A look of disappointment flashed across Victor's face, but then a look of interest.
"Oh, Project Salvation. That's one of my areas of expertise. I'd love to help, but I'll need any breadcrumbs you have first. Maybe we can talk about it over dinner?"

Victor almost immediately appeared at her side, a hydrospanner in his hand.
"Well. You don't have to tell FNN about it."

Victor wiped some of the blood from his welding mask and looked down at the severed head of the Traveyni warrior. He couldn't believe it. It was almost like he just killed the devil himself. A huge weight lifted from his shoulders.
His hands gripped the welder as he swayed back and forth slightly, his head still swimming from the psychic attack. But he was emboldened by the death of the warrior, as it proved that yes -- these were not invincible foes. He turned to the Scorpion closest to him and, still in somewhat of a daze, charged it. He gripped the welder like a baseball bat and took a home-run swing at his enemy, shouting: "spes mea in deo est!"

Victor kept drifting out of illusion and reality as he struggled to keep the heavy welding unit aloft in his hands. He did his best to fight off the mental attack as he gripped the welder with renewed strength.
He cried out with a fierce battle cry, not quite sure if what he was experiencing was real. In any event, he attempted to brutally behead the Traveyni with his white-hot plasma welder as he screamed like a madman.

Victor glares at the Traveyni with determination and conviction, trying to resist the type of mind games he had already been subject to with KRika.

Victor steps out from one of the side-alcoves in Engineering, wearing a welder's mask and brandishing a large, two-handed electro-plasma torch -- the kind used for fusing bulkheads together. He flicks a switch on the side of the unit, causing it to flare up with blinding silver and gold light.
"I'm going to send you back to hell, you demon bastard!" Vic shouts as he charges forward, attempting to bury the plasma welder in the Traveyni's chest.

In the back of Engineering, an out-of-focus Victor Springfield could be seen pushing an anti-grav cart full of spare EPS shunts.
