Victor nodded along with Billie and began to speak as she poured her water. "I advise all my clients -- never talk to the fuzz. I've never seen anyone benefit from it. Stonewalling, it is." He paused. "Just so you know... even if you are charged, I've still got your back."
After she took a drink, he listened to her comments on K'Rika. "Nefarious types? What do you mean?"

He nodded along as she spoke. "Oh, I think I do understand. The timing of this inquiry is suspect. Highly suspect." He scratched his chin. "The purpose of this inquiry is allegedly to determine whether criminal charges should be filed against you. In my experience -- nine out of ten times -- if they had some good dirt on you, they wouldn't go through this circus sideshow. They would have just hauled you away in stun cuffs if they had that." Vic leaned forward in his seat as he began to talk faster. "No, they want to scare you. Like they did by bringing out that picture. To get you so frightened that you'd spill all the beans in order to avoid prosecution."
"I'll tell you right now, there's no 'silver bullet' outcome to this situation. You may well get arrested and charged. But you have two options right now... to talk, or to invoke your right to not answer their questions. If you talk, well... then you'd have a choice. You could tell the truth -- and we know that may have dire consequences -- or you could lie. But if you lie, you may get caught, because you don't know what cards they're holding. The only logical answer is to refuse their questions. If they charge you, then they'll need to prove their case. In that scenario, at least you aren't helping them by giving them information they don't currently have."
"Though as we can see... since they've bothered with an inquiry, they probably don't have enough to seal the deal. My suggestion is that we walk out there, and I will inform the tribunal that you are invoking your protections against self-incrimination."

For some reason I'm thinking about rectonning T'Ruri slightly to have been... Buffer than she is. Like she's worked out a significant portion of her life. Even while with Tibs. I WONDER HOW THAT COLORS HIS TASTES IN WOMEN. His corpse ain't desiring anyone, including women

Billie Jo could hear some muffled talking outside of the door to the meeting room. Eventually the door slid open, and Lt. Springfield walked through, a PADD tucked under his right arm and an extra-large glass of some type of bright blue juice in his right. He looked at her plainly, without much expression one way or the other, and sat down at the table. He got himself situated before speaking.
"Doctor. I'd ask how you're doing, but given that we're in this situation, I probably already know the answer." He sipped his drink. "They filled me in on some of the details before I got here -- apparently they want to question you about your involvement with Alice Walker. How much did you tell them already?"
He leaned forward, his hands clasped together, eagerly awaiting a response.

Billie Jo swallowed dryly again, “I think I might need a lawyer.” Victor had slumbered peacefully, enjoying his afternoon nap -- until he awoke with a start, beads of sweat dripping off his forehead. Somewhere... he was needed.

TO: Commander Shantal Arnimane FROM: Lieutenant Victor J. Springfield
Commander,
I would like to invite you to my quarters after Alpha shift for a home-cooked meal. I have many Springfield family recipes to choose from, including but not limited to: chicken carbonara, three-cheese ziti, spaghetti with red sauce (in both regular and zesty varieties), margherita pizza, and pesto lasagne. Please indicate whether you accept, and if so, your preferred dinner choice.
Warmest regards,

This was definitely one of the best Trek movies.

Vic was completely flabbergasted.
"So that means the Director is going to be your father in law? Jeez, Jon." Vic took a breath. "That's some heavy stuff. Does everyone on the Sentinel have some kind of strange set of circumstances like this?" He asked, mostly rhetorically.

A cigarette hung from Vic's mouth as he started intently at his computer screen, the only light coming from the LCARS display and his old-fashioned mica desk lamp. Music was playing from his record player:
He puffed on his cigarette, smoke pouring from his nose as it was immediately sucked up by the device on his desk. He was composing a letter of protest to Captain Dalun about being banned from the bridge, but he kept deleting it and rewriting it. The first draft was angry and accusatory, the second way too passive. Hmm... how to put it. He leaned back in his chair and took a sip of scotch as he contemplated the situation. He was, of course, the only one to correctly identify what the Traveyani were doing in their temple... and was essential in talking down the Nakuul. Though, he didn't want to brag too much.
Vic kicked his feet up on the desk and reclined even further as he considered what to say. Maybe this was a conversation best had in person.

I recently found out about this guy, who is apparently from my state. I've never met him but I went to his lodge once. I wasn't sure whether I liked this at first but he seems pretty talented.
