I sooooo agree! I only /liked/ some of the 2009 movie...and i loathed Into Darkness... But OMG from the 1st cute scene with Kirk to the end I rather liked the third movie! it had a major TOS feel to it! \o/ The Spock McCoy Dynamic was hilarious in this!! That look at the end to Spock was sooo classic Bones!!! Everyone hit the mark in this one! I am hopeful for the 4th movie

So the 3rd movie, Star Trek Beyond happens at time where Kirk is about done with Star Fleet. (I'm huge fan of that era) the time when TOS crew is making it's transition between TOS and the Motion Picture Movies. There is so much unsaid there and in Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Kahn. We see at the start of that movie Kirk is regretting his decision for becoming Admiral. In Star Trek Beyond, and of course this is spoiler alert so stop reading here if you dont' want to see it. We see how the long deployment of of 5 year mission has really made him lose heart, and sight of what makes him whole as a character. (Which is so beautifully done in his opening captain's log. I was SOOOO feeling Chris Pine's performance. He makes an amazing Captain Kirk. That cast has grown on me so much.) In the grand seem of things. We see them in there position of considering whether they want to go on or not. The rest of the movie is an action film and I like space action flics so I am bias. But I really liked the character development in this particular movie. It was writen at time of star trek that is so neglected and just now after 50 years is finally getting attention, as we see with Axanar, Star Trek Discovery, and with this movie being that intermission between First 5 year mission, and then the 2nd five year mission. I think Into Darkness hurt this franchise sadly because Beyond It made respectable 56 Million but, not the 75 the 2009 movie made, however there is hope that the Asian market will drive sales for this movie since they are large movie consumers. But have heart the 4th Star Trek Movie and the new cast signed contracts for the crew of the NCC-1701-As' return. So I encourage you all to go and see it and let go of your hating ways!

This movie was very good. And very trek. It felt very much like a TOS episode with an overblown budget. Also its hilarious to read back through this thread.
